  • In this paper the experiments of breakdown characteristics of rod-electrodes by pressure and gap change of imitation-air were described. The results are fundamental data for electric insulation design of distribution power facilities which will be studied and developed in the future. And we could make an environment friendly gas insulation material with mataining dielectric strength by imitation air which generates a lower lever of the global warming effect.

  • We developed a polarimetric fiber-optic current sensor using a length of twisted fiber and a Faraday rotator mirror which was used to suppress the linear birefringence effect. A gold coated mirror was also used as the sensor coil reflector, and the results were compared with the case of FRM. From the experimental results, it is clear that the FRM greatly enhances the stability of the fiber optic current sensor output..

  • This paper itltroduces a simple stair-case PWM using the pseudo-sinusoidal method. In a configuration of controller, the value of sine as a fundamental factor divided into stair-case level and the three-phase PWM inverter is composed by digital compound for each value of stair-case level. The three-phase output pulse at a fixed carrier frequency and a variable reference frequency is obtained under the effect of reduced harmonics. In this experiment, using the power FET as the switching device, 0.5 H.P. induction motor operation is performed when the switching frequency is 20KHz.

  • This paper presents a practical approach to evaluate the reliability indices of electric distribution systems. The use of reliability evaluation is placed with framework of distribution system planning and operation. In this paper, the reliability model is based on an analytical method, connecting component failure to load point outage in each section. Five cases are reported in the paper to study the effect of varying failure rates and repair times on real distribution systems. Simulations are preformed by the developed reliability evaluation program.

  • The end-ring may contribute a significant influence to the performance of machine. The induced currents flow through the bars of a cage rotor and complete their closed paths by passing around the end-ring. This dissertation is to describe a method for calculating end-ring resistance of squirrel cage rotor, based on 3-D finite element method(A-$\Phi$). The resistance under consideration of skin effect is calculated by using Joule's loss equation.

  • In process control, PPl controller including smith predictor was proposed for efficient control method because of the weak performance by the effect of long dead-time. But PPI controller can not guarantee of control performance at real plant because of sensitivity to model mismatch. Thus, In this paper, we presented new control parameter estimation strategy for compensating of model mismatch. The proposed startegy obtained useful result through various cases.

  • We developed a polarimetric fiber-optic current sensor system for protective relaying usage. A fiber sensing coil that consisted of a length of twisted fiber and a FRM (Faraday rotator mirror) was used in order to suppress the linear birefringence effect. From the experiments with various sensing coil configurations and environmental conditions, the proposed current sensor system showed feasibility of suppressing environmental noises, and the obtained measurement stability was less than $\pm$3% at rated primary current.

  • Large steel industries have time-varying nonlinear loads such as electric arc furnaces. These nonlinear loads generate harmonic currents and create distortions on the sinusoidal voltage of the power system. The main objective of the static var compensator is to maintain the rms voltage at the point of common coupling within the limit. In this research, harmonic mitigation studies were conducted with and without the SVC, and time-varying harmonics were evaluated according to the international harmonic standards (IEC 61000-3-6 and IEEE Std. 519) using a cumulative probabilistic approach.

  • A new measure, the distributed generation impact factor (DGIF), is used for evaluating the impact of newly introduced distributed generators on a networked distribution or a transmission system. Distribution systems are normally operated in a radial structure. But the introduction of distributed generation needs load flow calculation to analyze the networked system. In the developed framework, the potential share of every generation bus in each line flow of a networked system can be directly evaluated. The developed index does not require the solution of power flow equations to evaluate the effect of the distributed generation. The main advantage of the developed method lies in its capability of considering simultaneous outputs of multiple generation sites.

  • Although anti-freezing heating cable has been widely installed in most residential boiler pipe, there were excessive energy consumption and fire risk due to inadequate temperature control. In this paper, a new energy saving fire risk-free controller was developed by using microprocessing operation which include detection of not only boiler room temperature but also pipe surface one. Its actual effect has been verified to save more than a half of the energy consumption comparing to conventional controller through temperature and humidity chamber experiment.
