  • This paper present experimental results of source identification for non-minimum phase system. Generally, a causal linear system may be described by matrix form. The inverse problem is considered as a matrix inversion. Direct inverse method can\`t be applied for a non-minimum phase system, the reason is that the system has ill-conditioning. Therefore, in this study to execute an effective inversion, SVD inverse technique is introduced. In a Non-minimum phase system, its system matrix may be singular or near-singular and has one more very small singular values. These very small singular values have information about a phase of the system and ill-conditioning. Using this property we could solve the ill-conditioned problem of the system and then verified it for the practical system(cantilever beam). The experimental results show that SVD inverse technique works well for non-minimum phase system.

  • The closed-loop state and input observer is a pole-placement type observer and estimates unknown state and input variables simultaneously. Pole-placement type observers may have poor transient performance with respect to ill-conditioning factors such as unknown initial estimates, round-off error, etc. For the robust transient performance, the effects of these ill-conditioning factors must be minimized in designing observers. In this paper, the transient performance of the closed-loop state and input observer is investigated quantitatively by considering the error bounds due to ill-conditioning factors. The performance indices are selected from these error bounds and are related to the observer robustness with respect to the ill -conditioning factors. The closed-loop state and input observer with small performance indices is considered as a well-conditioned observer from the transient perspective.

  • In this paper we propose a block-type parallel preconditioner for solving large sparse nonsymmetric linear systems, which we expect to be scalable. It is Multi-Color Block SOR preconditioner, combined with direct sparse matrix solver. For the Laplacian matrix the SOR method is known to have a nondeteriorating rate of convergence when used with Multi-Color ordering. Since most of the time is spent on the diagonal inversion, which is done on each processor, we expect it to be a good scalable preconditioner. Finally, due to the blocking effect, it will be effective for ill-conditioned problems. We compared it with four other preconditioners, which are ILU(0)-wavefront ordering, ILU(0)-Multi-Color ordering, SPAI(SParse Approximate Inverse), and SSOR preconditioner. Experiments were conducted for the Finite Difference discretizations of two problems with various meshsizes varying up to 1024 x 1024, and for an ill-conditioned matrix from the shell problem from the Harwell-Boeing collection. CRAY-T3E with 128 nodes was used. MPI library was used for interprocess communications. The results show that Multi-Color Block SOR and ILU(0) with Multi-Color ordering give the best performances for the finite difference matrices and for the shell problem only the Multi-Color Block SOR converges.

  • Camera calibration is the process of determining the coordinate relationship between a camera image and its real world space. Accurate calibration of a camera is necessary for the applications that involve quantitative measurement of camera images. However, if the camera plane is parallel or near parallel to the calibration board on which 2 dimensional objects are defined(this is called "ill-conditioned"), existing solution procedures are not well applied. In this paper, we propose a neural network-based approach to camera calibration for 2D images formed by a mono-camera or a pair of cameras. Multi-layer perceptrons are developed to transform the coordinates of each image point to the world coordinates. The validity of the approach is tested with data points which cover the whole 2D space concerned. Experimental results for both mono-camera and stereo-camera cases indicate that the proposed approach is comparable to Tsai's method[8]. Especially for the stereo camera case, the approach works better than the Tsai's method as the angle between the camera optical axis and the Z-axis increases. Therefore, we believe the approach could be an alternative solution procedure for the ill -conditioned camera calibration.libration.

  • The NURBS surfaces are widely employed for exchanging geometric models between different CAD/CAE systems. However if the input NURBS surfaces are poorly parameterized, most surface meshing algorithms may fail or the constructed meshes can be ill-conditioned. In this paper presents a new method is presented that can generate well conditioned meshes even on poorly parameterized NURBS surfaces by regenerating NURBS surfaces. To begin with, adequate points are sampled on original poorly parameterized surfaces and new surfaces are created by interpolating these points. And then, mesh generation is performed on new surfaces. With this method, models with poorly parameterized NURBS surfaces can be meshed successfully.

  • A psychoacoustic model based noise shaping method is proposed, where noise's presence with a host signal will not be perceptually noticeable. The derivation of imperceptible noise levels from the masking thresholds of the signal involves a deconvolution associated with the spreading function in the psychoacoustic model, which results in an ill-conditioned problem. In this paper, the problem is formulated as a constrained optimization, and it is demonstrated that the solution provides noise shaping where the noise excitation level conforms to the masking thresholds of the signal.

  • This paper studies a computational iterative method to find accurate approximations for the inverse of real or complex matrices. The analysis of convergence reveals that the method reaches seventh-order convergence. Numerical results including the comparison with different existing methods in the literature will also be considered to manifest its superiority in different types of problems.

  • This paper deals with an on-the-machine measurement method for roughness of ground surface by using flux ratio of scattered lights. A sensor and control unit is developed so as to e applied to surface grinding processes. The performance of the sensor is compared with that of stylus. The experimental investigation shows that not onlythe sensor has good performance as a surface roughness sensor but alsothe sensor is very useful for monitoring grinding condition in order to detect ill-conditioned grinding or dressing time.

  • This poaper descibes a method for reconstructing the impact force by inverse analysis. The inverse problem of reconstructing the impact force using experimentally measured structural responses tends to be ill-conditioned. In practical application, impact response data involve niise caused by the measurement system. We present a method to minimize the mean square error of reconstructed forcd. The agreement is very satisfactory in all the comparisons. This verifies the proposed method.
