Purpose: This study evaluated the static stereoacuity by Distance Randot Stereotest (STEREO OPTICAL. Co., Inc. USA) and the dynamic stereoacuity by three-rods test (iNT, Korea). Criterion and correlation of stereoacuity between both tests and usefulness of two stereotest methods were also evaluated. Methods: For normal adults of 109 (male 61, female 48), mean age of 20.88 (19-32 years) years old, static stereoacuity by using Distance Randot Stereotest at 3 m distance, dynamic stereoacuity by using three-rods test at 2.5 m distance were measured. Results: The mean of distance static stereoacuity was $155.77{\pm}133.11sec$ of arc and the mean of error distance dynamic stereoacuity $11.13{\pm}9.69mm$. With equivalent-conversion stereoacuity of $23.44{\pm}20.96sec$ of arc, there was statistically significant differences (p=0.00) between two dynamic stereoacuity, but correlation was relatively low (${\rho}=0.226$). In the case of dynamic stereoacuity, separated to normal range by criterion of the error distance 20 mm, it showed the error distance of less than 20 mm in 97 subjects(89%) whose average of error distance and conversion mean dynamic stereoacuity were $8.43{\pm}5.10mm$ and $17.68{\pm}10.67sec$ of arc. repectively. The error distance of was equivalent-conversion dynamic stereoacuity 40.99 sec of arc (PD 62 mm basis) was 20 mm. Conclusions: The results of lower correlation between static and dynamic stereoacuity suggest that seterotest should be applied separately to different functions. The results of this study also suggest that Distance Randot Stereotest can be applied to static stereoacuity excluding monocular cues. Three-rods test can be applied to dynamic stereoacuity containing the response of the eye-hand coordination in the daily life of natural vision condition, including the monocular cues. These different approaches canprovide a criterion of the two stereoacuity and parallel use of the two tests would be useful. For dynamic stereoacuity by three-rods test, error distance 20 mm in a normal range of adults can be used as a criteria to get statistical meaning of the results.
Parameter identification is studied in viscoelastic rods by solving an inverse problem numerically. The material properties of the rod, which appear in the constitutive relations, are recovered by optimizing an objective function constructed from reference strain data. The resulting inverse algorithm consists of an optimization algorithm coupled with a corresponding direct algorithm that computes the strain fields given a set of material properties. Numerical results are presented for two model inverse problems; (i)the effect of noise in the reference strain fields (ii) the effect of minimal reference data in space and/or time data.

An aluminum radius rod using rheo-forging method has been developed for heavy commercial vehicles to decrease vehicle unsprung weight. To design the shape of the rod, structural simulations are performed using two load cases. To evaluate durability performance of the rods, a test system which has simultaneous 3 axes actuating system is developed. And 3 axes durability test conditions are established based on vehicle field tests. Using the test systems and the conditions, the durability test is carried out and the rods have passed the test conditions of 700,000 cycles. The weight of a developed aluminum radius rod is 4.2kg and it was drastically reduced by 48.8 percent in comparison with the weight of a steel radius rod.

Preliminary analysis of in-reactor thermal performance of three MOX fuel rods, which are going to be irradiated in the Halden reactor beginning in the first Quarter of the year 2000 under the framework of the OECD Halden Reactor Programme, have been conducted by using the computer code COSMOS to ensure their safe operation. Parametric studies have been carried out to investigate the effect of uncertainties on in-reactor behavior by considering the four kinds of uncertainties; thermal conductivity, linear power, manufacturing parameters, and model constants. The analysis shows that, in the case of annular MOX -1 fuel, calculation results for thermal performance vary widely depending on the selection of model constants for fission gas release (FGR). On the contrary, the thermal performance of solid MOX - 3 fuel does not depend on the choice of FGR constants to a large extent as MOX-I, because the fuel temperature is very high in the MOX-3 irrespective of the choice of FGR constants and hence the capacity of grain boundaries to retain gas atoms is not large enough to accommodate the number of gas atoms reaching the grain boundaries. It is planned that when the data on microstructure and thermal conductivity for each type of MOX fuel are available, new analysis will be made using these information. In addition, FGR model constants will be derived from the measured fuel centerline temperature, rod internal pressure and other related data.
During normal operation, some parts of the fission product in the defective fuel rods can release into the primary loops in PWR and the escape rate coefficients are widely used to assess quantitatively the release behaviors of fission products in the industry. The escape rate coefficients have been standardized and have been validated by some drilling experiments before the 1970s. In the paper, the model to determine the escape rate coefficients of fission products has been established and the typical escape rate coefficients of noble gas and iodine have been deduced based on the measured radiochemical data in one operating PWR. The result shows that the apparent escape rate coefficients vary with the release-to-birth and decay constants for different fission products of the same element. In addition, it is found that the escape rate coefficients from the defective rod with large defects are much higher than the standard escape rate coefficients, i.e., averagely 4.4 times and 1.8 times for noble gas and iodine respectively. The enhanced release of fission products from the severe secondary hydriding of several defective fuel rods in one cycle may lead to the potential risk of the temporary shutdown of the operating reactors.
Objective: To evaluate the distribution and characteristics of peripheral nerve abnormalities in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) using magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) and to examine the diagnostic efficiency. Materials and Methods: Thirty-one CIDP patients and 21 controls underwent MR scans. Three-dimensional sampling perfections with application-optimized contrasts using different flip-angle evolutions and T1-/T2- weighted turbo spin-echo sequences were performed for neurography of the brachial and lumbosacral (LS) plexus and cauda equina, respectively. Clinical data and scores of the inflammatory Rasch-built overall disability scale (I-RODS) in CIDP were obtained. Results: The bilateral extracranial vagus (n = 11), trigeminal (n = 12), and intercostal nerves (n = 10) were hypertrophic. Plexus hypertrophies were observed in the brachial plexus of 19 patients (61.3%) and in the LS plexus of 25 patients (80.6%). Patterns of hypertrophy included uniform hypertrophy (17 [54.8%] brachial plexuses and 21 [67.7%] LS plexuses), and multifocal fusiform hypertrophy (2 [6.5%] brachial plexuses and 4 [12.9%] LS plexuses) was present. Enlarged and/or contrast-enhanced cauda equina was found in 3 (9.7%) and 13 (41.9%) patients, respectively. Diameters of the brachial and LS nerve roots were significantly larger in CIDP than in controls (p < 0.001). The largest AUC was obtained for the L5 nerve. There were no significant differences in the course duration, I-RODS score, or diameter between patients with and without hypertrophy. Conclusion: MRN is useful for the assessment of distribution and characteristics of the peripheral nerves in CIDP. Compared to other regions, LS plexus neurography is more sensitive for CIDP.
Mathematics education starts from learning the concept of number. How the children at the beginning of school age learn the concept of natural number is therefore important for their future mathematics education. Since ancient Greek period, the concept of natural number has reflected various mathematical-philosophical points of view at each period and has been discussed ceaselessly. The concept of natural number is hard to define. Since 19th century, it has also been widely discussed in psychology and education on how to teach the concept of natural number to the children at the beginning of school age. Most of the works, however, were focused on limited aspects of natural number concept. This study aims to show the best way to teach the children at the beginning of school age the various aspects of natural number concept based on activistic perspective, which played a crucial role in modern mathematics education. With this purpose, I investigated the theory of the activistic construction of knowledge and the construction of natural number concept through activity, and activistic approaches about instruction in natural number concept made by Kant, Dewey, Piaget, Davydov and Freudenthal. In addition, I also discussed various aspects of natural number concept in historical and mathematical-philosophical points of view. Based on this investigation, I tried to find out existing problems in instructing natural number to primary school children in the 7th National Curriculum and aimed to provide a new solution to improve present problems based on activistic approaches. And based on activistic perspective, I conducted an experiment using Cuisenaire colour rods and showed that even the children at the beginning of school age can acquire the various aspects of natural number concept efficiently. To sum up, in this thesis, I analyzed epistemological background on activistic construction of natural number concept and presented activistic approach method to teach various aspects of natural number concept to the children at the beginning of school age based on activism.

The escape behavior of prey fish to predator attack is directly linked to the survival of the fish. In this study, I explored the escape behavior of Medaka fish to bird attacks. To simulate the attack, I designed a model triangular-shaped bird to slide along a fishing line connected between rods at both ends of the tank. The triangular shape was set to 10×15 (S=1), 15×20 (S=2), and 20×25 cm (S=3) with base×height. The slope (θ) of the fishing line, which determines the attack speed of the model bird, was set to values of 15° (θ=1), 30° (θ=2), and 45° (θ=3). The escape behavior was characterized using five variables: escape speed (ν), escape acceleration (α), responsiveness (γ), branch length similarity entropy (ε), and alignment (ϕ). The experimental results showed when (S, θ)=(fixed, varied), the change in values of the five variables were not significant. Thus, the fish respond more sensitively to S than to θ In contrast, when (S, θ)=(varied, fixed), ν, α, and γ showed increasing trends but ε and ϕ did not change much. This indicates the nature of fish escape behavior irrespective of the threat is inherent in ε and ϕ. I found that fish escape behavior can be divided into two types for the five physical quantities. In particular, the analysis showed that the type was mainly determined by the size of the model bird.
We evaluated the effect of high-density aluminum, titanium, and steel metal inserts on computed tomography (CT) numbers and radiation treatment plans for Tomotherapy. CT images were obtained using a cylindrical TomoPhantom comprising cylindrical rods of various densities and metal inserts. Three CT image sets were evaluated for image quality as the mean CT number and standard deviation. Dose evaluation also performed. The reference values did not significantly differ between the CT image sets with the corrected metal inserts. The higher-density material exhibited the largest difference in the mean CT number and standard deviation. The conformity index at Iterative-Metal Artifact Reduction (iMAR) was approximately 20% better than that of non-iMAR. No significant target or organ at risk dose difference was observed between non-iMAR and iMAR. Therefore, iMAR is helpful for target or organ at risk delineation and for reducing uncertainty for three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy in Tomotherapy.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and microbiological effects of minocycline-loaded polycaprolactone strip on periodontal disease. Ten patients with probing depth (deeper than 5mm) were tested. Of the two periodontal pockets selected from each patient, one randomly selected pocket was treated by the insertion of 30% minocycline-loaded polycaprolactone sttip as the experimental group and the other with a minocycline-free polycaprolactone strip as the control group. All groups were examined by clinical and microbiological methods. 1. Plaque index scores, gingival index scores and sulcular bleeding index scores in both group were significantly reduced from the baseline to 2 weeks. Plaque index scores of experimental group and sulcular bleeding index scores of control group tended to be progressively reduced in all experimental periods. 2. Probing depth amounts in both group were significantly reduced from 4 weeks to 8 weeks. 3. Attachment loss amounts in both group shows no singnificant differences in time. Attachment loss amounts in experimental group tended to be less than those in control group. 4. The number of cocci in both groups were significantly increased in all experimental periods, but that of the non-motile rods were significantly reduced from 2 weeks in experimental group, and from 4 weeks in control group, that of the motile rods were reduced from 4 weeks in experimental group and from 1 week in control group. The number of spirochetes were reduced from I week during all experimental period in experimental group, but there was no changes in control group.
