  • In the hydraulic room of a forging press machine, a system which can detect and prevent risks at its early stage is needed because there may be a leakage due to the damage of the connection parts of the piping which can endanger human life and mechanical damage. In this paper, the system to automatically recognize a leakage of hydraulic fluid in terms of using the pan/tilt camera from a remote place is implemented. It finds the bounding boxes which are recognized with object regions in the process of labeling and detects the proper leakage regions of hydraulic fluid with the ratios of width and height of the bounding boxes and compactness of the leakage shape. Also, it performs noise removal and calibration for transition and rotation of image as a preprocessing process. The experimental results show that the proposed system has been verified to detect the leakage regions accurately in various sources of light.

In this paper, the system to automatically recognize a leakage of hydraulic fluid by the pan/tilt camera from a remote place is implemented. It finds the Minimum Boundary Rectangles(MBR) which are recognized with candidate leakage regions in the process of labeling and detects the proper leakage regions of hydraulic fluid with the width and height of MBRs and the area ratios of the MBRs and the candidate leakage regions. The experimental results show that the proposed system has been verified to detect the leakage regions accurately in various light conditions.

  • The Szentgotthard Flood Protection Project is located in the southeasters part of Austria, very close to the Hungarian border and to the Hungarian town of Szentgotthard situated near the Junction of the rivers Lafnitz and Raab. During heavy rainstorms, this area has always been liable to severe floodings, affecting the town itself and upstream reaches, where major industrial and commercial development is planned. In order to solve these problems, several solutions have been developed by means of a series of model tests performed at the hydraulic laboratory of the Technical University of Graz, Austria. The model was constructed to scales 1:75 (lengths) and 1:25 (heights). This trebled scale allowed greater accuracy in the measurement of discharge depths. The results from the model tests have led to the following proposals: - Construction of a flood relief trough with an inflow section 3.5 km upstream of the junction of the rivers Lafnitz and Raab. - Use of a former river bed for the flood relief trough. - Design of a lowered embankment crest section to pass one-third of the maximum flood flow of the river Lafnitz. - Connection of the flood relief trough to the Lahnbach stream, a tributary of the river Raab.

  • This study aims to simulate the 3 dimensional (3D) model of Keum-man connection canal using geographic information system (GIS) as well as considering design in viewpoint of engineering. The canal connects from Keumkang to Mangyungkang in order to supply fresh water into Saemankeum lake. This study used 3 dimensional spatial planning model (3DSPLAM) process to generate the 3D model, which has not only several planning layers in actual process, but also their corresponding layers in modeling process to simulate 3D space of rural villages. The discharge of the canal is $20m^3/s$ on slope of 1/28,400 in the canal length of 14.2km, which consists of pipe line and open channel. This study surveyed the route of the canal and its surrounding environment for facilities to make images in the 3D graphic model. Besides, the present study developed data set in GIS for geogrphical surface modeling as well as parameters in hydraulic analysis for water surface profile on the canal using HEC-RAS model. From the data set constructed, this study performed analysis of water surface profile with HEC-RAS, generation of digital elevation model (DEM) and 3D objects, design of the canal section and route on DEM in AutoCAD, and 3D canal model and its surrounding 3D space in 3DMAX with virtual reality. The study result showed that the process making 3D canal model tried in this study is very useful to generate computer graphic model with the designed canal on the surface of DEM. The generated 3D canal can be used to assist decision support for the canal policy.

  • Hydraulic excavator in digging at the construction machinery is a widely used mechanical device. Excavator attachments are taken with structural load and fatigue during digging under applied reaction. Fatigue analysis is done at joint pin between bucket and arm of front attachment at excavator under the force of hydraulic cylinder in operation. It is analyzed how load can be supported at the lower driving body applied on the bucket. In this study, the deformation of arm and the fatigue result are examined when reaction force is applied on the attachment of excavator.

  • In this paper an asymmetric hydraulic actuator which consists of single acting cylinder and servo valve is modeled for a quarter car active suspension system. This model regards the force as an internal state rather than a control input. The control input of the model is the sum of oil flows that pass through the valve's orifices. The resulting dynamic equation in the state space ap-pears a feedback connection of a nominal linear time in-variant term with a nonlinear bounded uncertain block. Since this model makes it possible to eliminate the force control phase, analysis and controller design are made straightforward and simple. Well known LQR method is then applied. Simulation and test rig experiment show the effectiveness of this approach in modeling and control.

  • This paper describes a summary of final prediction results by system-scale safety analysis codes during the OECD/NEA/CSNI ISP-50 exercise, targeting a 50% Direct Vessel Injection (DVI) line break integral effect test performed with the Advanced Thermal-Hydraulic Test Loop for Accident Simulation (ATLAS). This ISP-50 exercise has been performed in two consecutive phases: "blind" and "open" phases. Quantitative comparisons were performed using the Fast Fourier Transform Based Method (FFTBM) to compare the overall accuracy of the collected calculations. Great user effects resulting from the combination of the possible reasons were found in the blind phase, confirming that user effect is still one of the major issues in connection with the system thermal-hydraulic code application. Open calculations showed better prediction accuracy than the blind calculations in terms of average amplitude (AA) value. A total of nineteen organizations from eleven countries participated in this ISP-50 program and eight leading thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes were used: APROS, ATHLET, CATHARE, KORSAR, MARS-KS, RELAP5/MOD3.3, TECH-M-97, and TRACE.

  • Field experiments were conducted to estimate streambed hydraulic conductivity at 15 sites in the Anseongcheon watershed, Korea. Seepage meters and piezometers were installed in the streambed at each site to measure the amount of stream water-groundwater exchange and the hydraulic gradient. The vertical hydraulic conductivity was then calculated using Darcy's formula. The measured stream water-groundwater exchange rates were $4.08{\times}10^{-6}$ to $1.49{\times}10^{-5}m/s$, and the vertical hydraulic gradients were 0.005 to 0.145. The data suggest the streambed hydraulic conductivity to be $7.80{\times}10^{-5}$ to $1.58{\times}10^{-3}m/s$. The results show significant differences in connectivity between stream and aquifer. Quantification of the hydraulic interconnection between stream and aquifer, and evaluation of the effects of groundwater development and utilization on the streamflow require hydrogeological investigations of the connection between stream and aquifer, including the hydraulic conductivity of the streambed. Various field testing and analysis methods for hydrogeological assessment also require further improvement.

  • River restoration has recently progressed in consideration of ecological functions along with flood controls and conservation. For river restorations that consider ecological health and diversity, it is important to contemplate the recovery of hydraulic and hydrologic connectivity in isolated spaces by longitudinal structures. In this study, as a first step for the provision of hydraulic and hydrologic data, which is necessary for the ecological connection analysis in isolated spaces, we developed a one-dimensional numerical model for rainfall runoff and channel routing and applied it to the Cheongmi watershed. The developed numerical model can simulate hydraulic and hydrologic analysis at the same time using the rainfall data. Numerical results were compared with observed data and other numerical results. As a result, a very reasonable agreement is observed. The results of this study will be improved so that the long-term hydrologic and hydraulic analysis is possible to predict ecological change.

  • The applicability and productivity of hydroforming process can be increased by combining pre- and post-forming processes such as the bending, piercing and embedding process. For the fabrication of automotive parts, the hollow bodies with connecting nuts are widely used to connect parts together. Hollow body with connecting nuts has been conventionally fabricated by welding nuts or screwing in autobody screws. It requires multiple steps and devices fur the welding and/or screwing Therefore in this study, hydro-embedding process that combines the hydraulic embedding of connecting element(nut) with hydroforming process is investigated. Studies on the hydro-embedding technology have been performed to optimize the shape of the connecting element by analyzing the deformed mode of the embedded tube The effects of the shape of the screw tip, screw thread and shape of thread on the connection force between the tube and the connecting element have been investigated to optimize the shape of connecting element. Finite element analysis has also been performed to provide deformation behaviors of the tube surrounding a hole produced by hydro-embedding.
