  • The chloride penetration model, which considers diffusion and sorption, is proposed. The FEM program developed on the basis of the diffusion and sorption model provides the estimation of chloride concentration variation according to cyclic humidity and temperature. The humidity diffusion analysis is carried out, and the chloride ion diffusion and sorption analysis are conducted on the basis of the pre-estimated humidity data in each element. Each element has different variables at different ages and locations in analysis. At early ages, the difference of relative humidity between inner and outer concretes causes the chloride ion penetration by sorption. As the humidity diffusion reduces the difference of relative humidity between inner md outer concretes with age, the effect of sorption on the chloride ion penetration decreases with age. The cyclic humidity increases the effect of sorption on the chloride ion penetration at early ages, and increases the quantity of chloride ion around steel at later ages. Therefore, the in-situ analysis of chloride ion Penetration for harbor concrete structures must be Performed considering the cyclic humidity conditionandthelongtermsorption.

  • In this study, the humidity control effect of a counter-flow ventilator was analyzed in a greenhouse with high relative humidity at night in the winter season. A case of the counter-flow ventilator was 0.96 × 0.65× 0.82(W × D × H, m) and there were heat transfer element and two fans for air supply and exhaust in the counter-flow ventilator. Two counter-flow ventilators were used in this study and the setting humidity of the ventilators was 80%. The temperature and relative humidity at night(18:00-8:00) in the greenhouse were measured. In a greenhouse without a counter-flow ventilator, the average temperature and humidity was 14.9℃, 82.8%, respectively. When the counter-flow ventilator was operated, the corresponding averages were 15.1℃, 79.9%. The independent sample t test of monthly temperature and relative humidity showed no difference in temperature, and a significant difference in relative humidity with 1% of the significance level. Therefore, using the counter-flow ventilator helps to control relative humidity in greenhouse and increase yield.. And further research considering the pros and cons of using the counter-flow ventilator is needed.

  • The measurement of absolute humidity of gases is essential in many industries. The effect of temperature on aluminum oxide and chilled mirror dew-point hygrometers is investigated. The temperature of laboratory, pipe line, and sensor is varied and the dew point is measured by two different aluminum oxide hygrometers. In all cases, the dew point of hygrometers is increased as the temperature is elevated. The reason behind this observation is due to desorption of water from the inside of pipe line and/or sensor surroundings at elevated temperature that result in the increase of the absolute humidity. Moreover, the sensor itself shows a certain degree of temperature dependency in sensing the humidity especially at low temperature. It is also studied that chilled mirror dew-point hygrometer may indicate a higher dew point than the reference at high temperature because the cooling capability of mirror is decreased at high temperature. Our study will provide evidences in the incorporation of the temperature effect as uncertainty factors in the standard calibration procedure for dew point hygrometers.

  • In order to eluciate the effect of humidity and organic solvent on the decomposition of carbamide peroxide, the kinetic study was carried out. The carbamide peroxide was prepared from urea and 30%-hydrogen peroxide. The accelerated stability analysis for carbamide peroxide crystal in various relative humidity, and for 10%-carbamide peroxide solution of organic solvents were investigated. Both humidity and temperature were important factors influencing the decomposition rate of carbamide peroxide crystal. The higher the humidity and temperature, the greater was the reaction rate. The breakdown rate of crystal was observed as an apparent zero-order, and was faster than the rate of decomposition in dilute propylene glycol, glycerine or sorbitol solutioos which were measured as an apparent first-order reaction. The more dilute to 10% the organic solvents of 10%-carbamide peroxide, the slower was breakdown rate. It is, therefore, useful in the aspects of stability and economics to substitute solvent of carbamide peroxide topical solution (USP XXI) with 10%-propylene glycol or glycerine instead of anhydrous glycerine.

  • In this work, we deposited SWNTs/silane hybrid thin films by multiple spray-coating on glass substrate, and examined their electrical response for humidity. Generally silane binders which are often used in CNT solution to adhere CNTs to substrate well can be easily functionalized to each own group on the surface of CNTs after they are hardened by way of the hydrolysis reaction. We investigated how silane binders (TEOS,, MTMS and VTMS) in SWNTs hybrid thin films make effect to their electrical response on humidity. As the result, we observed that the resistance in the sample using TEOS was changed dramatically while it was almost invariant in the samples using MTMS and VTMS for increasing humidity.

  • This study made a specimen (contact surface size: $45\;mm{\times}0.02\;mm{\times}45{\sim}55\;mm$) with silicon rubber for low voltage cable with 50 phr silica filler. The electrification voltage of electrostatics were measured for different sizes of contact surface with the applied voltage of 10kV and the environmental settings of temperature ($25{\sim}40^{\circ}C$) and humidity (40~80%). The following conclusions were made. The electrification voltage of electrostatics decreased as the humidity increased. The electrification voltage of electrostatics increased as the temperature increased. The larger the surface size, the higher the electrification voltage of electrostatics. The property of the material had more effect on the relaxation time than the humidity.

  • DLC(Diamond-like carbon) films possess high hardness, low friction coefficient, and good wear resistance. Due to these properties, DLC films have been used extensively in magnetic hard disk industry. The objective of the present study was to investigate the influence of environmental condition on the tribological behavior of DLC coated hard disk. It is found that the tribological characteristics of DLC films are strongly affected by relative humidity and temperature. Specifically, the friction coefficient increases with increase in temperature at relative humidity of 50%. However, at 20% and 85% RH the effect of temperature was not significant. Also, the degree of wear could be observed using an AFM.

  • In a fuel cell vehicle using polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC), hydrogen is over-supplied to gain higher stack efficiency. So it is needed considering fuel efficiency to re-circulate hydrogen which is not reacted in stack. And to re-circulate hydrogen, a blower or an ejector is used. Ejector re-circulation system has several merits compared with blower system, for example no parasite energy, simple structure and no lubrication system. But the secondary flow of an ejector in fuel cell vehicle, has high humidity because of crossover problem in stack. Therefore in this paper, ejector is designed by 1-D modeling and CFD with the primary and secondary flow of hydrogen. And the ejector which has the primary and secondary flow of air, is designed to have the same Reynolds number and Mach number at the nozzle exit as the hydrogen ejector's. And this air ejector is tested while the humidity of the secondary flow is varied.

  • Climate conditions, especially transport and storage, are a very important factor in the process of sampling and testing insulation oil in the field. The samples of insulating oil exposed to the atmosphere affect the dielectric strength, total acid number and moisture test value by oxygen and high humidity environment and may also affect the results according to the criteria specified in each test. Therefore, reliable test values for insulating oil testing require consideration of the atmospheric environment of the test site, including oxygen and humidity. In this paper, each test was conducted on insulating oil exposed to various time and humidity environments, and the effect of the atmospheric environment on the test results was analyzed by comparing and analyzing with the first insulating oil.

  • This study grasped the relationship between relative humidity in concrete and concrete shrinkage followed by pre-absorbed water of porous lightweight aggregates through measurements of concrete shrinkage and humidity and comparisons with established research results. It was showed that shrinkage reduction effect of lightweight concrete is 36% at 7 days early ages and 25% at 180 days long-term ages when water-binder ratio is 0.3. It also showed that shrinkage reduction effect is 19% at 7 days and 16% at 180 days when water-binder ratio is 0.4 and 37%, 32% when water-binder ratio is 0.5. The moisture supply effect of lightweight aggregates was remarkable at early age within 7~10 days irrespective of water-binder ratio. In case of waterbinder ratio is 0.3, the relationship between shrinkage and internal humidity of concrete has been underestimated regardless of applied existing model type and in case of water-binder ratio is 0.4, 0.5, measurement values are relatively similar with existing model equations. Finally this study did regression analyses about the relation among the humidity change and the shrinkage strain as a high-degree polynomial and derived parameters that can connect moisture movement analysis with differential shrinkage analysis in case of considering relative humidity at the time by moisture movement analysis of concrete.
