Notion sickness is well known to be caused by long time exposure to the very low frequency motion in the multiple axes of human body Since the vestibular system for the perception of low frequency motion is located in the head, accurate measurement of 6 degree of freedom head motion is of great importance. In this study, the measurement system consisting of a safety helmet and 9 translational accelerometers was constructed for the estimation of 3 translational and 3 rotational motions of human head. Since estimation errors of 3 rotational components can be significantly magnified even by small offset of the sensitivity axis from the geometric center of an accelerometer, accurate measurement of sensitivity axis must be preceded. The method for accurate estimation of the offset was proposed, and the effect of offset on the estimation of angular acceleration was investigated.

Human ability to perceive colors is a very subjective matter. The task of measuring and analyzing appropriate colors from colored images, which matches human sensitivity for perceiving colors, has been a challenge to the research community. In this paper we propose a novel approach, which involves the use of fuzzy logic and reasoning to analyze the RGB color intensities extracted from sensory inputs to understand human sensitivity for various colors. Based on this approach, an intelligent system has been built to predict the subject's personality. The results of experiments conducted with this system are discussed in the paper.
In this paper the failure possibility and the error possibility are used to represent reliability of a technical component and that of a human operator, respectively. The failure possibility and the error possibility are fuzzy sets on the interval [0,1]. In a man-machine system, reliability of the technical component and that of the human operator are usually affected by many factors, e.g., the environment in which a machine is operated, psychological stress of the human operator, etc. The possibility is derived from not only the failure or the error rate but also estimates of these factors. The fuzzy reasoning plays an important role in the derivation. The reliability analysis is performed by the use of the possibility obtained by the present method. Moreover this paper discusses the sensitivity analysis which evaluates what extent the change of the estimation of each factor has an influence on reliability of a man-machine system. The important factors to be ameliorated are shown through the sensitivity analysis.
The importance of flexible polymer-based pressure sensors is growing in fields like healthcare monitoring, tactile recognition, gesture recognition, human-machine interface, and robot skin. In particular, health monitoring and tactile devices require high sensor sensitivity. Researchers have worked on sensor material and structure to achieve high sensitivity. A simple and effective method has been to employ three-dimensional pressure sensors. Three-dimensional (3D) structures dramatically increase sensor sensitivity by achieving larger local deformations for the same pressure. In this paper, the performance, manufacturing method, material, and structure of high-sensitivity flexible pressure sensors based on 3D structures, are reviewed.
A pressure sensor that mimics the sensing ability of human skin has emerged as high-profile technology because it shows remarkable applications in numerous fields such as robotics, human health monitoring, and artificial prosthetics. Whereas recent pressure sensors have achieved high sensitivity similar to that of human skin, they still show limited detection bandwidth. Moreover, once these e-skin are fabricated, their sensitivity and stiffness are fixed; therefore, they can be used for only limited applications. Our study proposes a new adaptive pressure sensor built with uniform gallium microdroplet-elastomer composite. Based on the phase transition of gallium microdroplets, the proposed sensor undergoes mode transformation, enabling it to have a higher sensitivity and wider detection bandwidth compared with those of human skin. In addition, we succeeded in extending a single adaptive pressure sensor to sensor arrays based on its high uniformity, reproducibility, and large-scale manufacturability. Finally, we designed an adaptive e-skin with the sensor array and demonstrated its applications on health monitoring tasks including blood pulse and body weight measurements.

Results from multiple high profile experiments on the parameters influencing the impacts that cause skull fractures to the frontal, temporal, and parietal bones were gathered and analyzed. The location of the impact as a binary function of frontal or lateral strike, the velocity, the striking area of the impactor, and the force needed to cause skull fracture in each experiment were subjected to statistical analysis using the JMP statistical software pack. A novel neural network model predicting skull fracture threshold was developed with a high statistical correlation ($R^2=0.978$) and presented in this text. Despite variation within individual studies, the equation herein proposes a 3 kN greater resistance to fracture for the frontal bone when compared to the temporoparietal bones. Additionally, impacts with low velocities (<4.1 m/s) were more prone to cause fracture in the lateral regions of the skull when compared to similar velocity frontal impacts. Conversely, higher velocity impacts (>4.1 m/s) showed a greater frontal sensitivity.
The human reliability analysis is a method by which, in general terms, the human impact to the safety and risk of a nuclear power plant operation can be modelled, quantified and analysed. It is an indispensable element of the PSA process within the nuclear industry nowadays. The paper herein presents a sensitivity study of the human reliability analysis performed on a real nuclear power plant-specific probabilistic safety assessment model. The analysis is performed on a pre-selected set of post-initiator operator actions. The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of these operator actions on the plant risk by altering their corresponding human error probabilities in a wide spectrum. The results direct the fact that the future effort should be focused on maintaining the current human reliability level, i.e. not letting it worsen, rather than improving it.
