Given the dramatic increase in the percentage of married women working in clercial occupations and the inflexibility of work commitments for employees working in this domain, this paper investigates the division of household labor between married female clerical workers and their husbands, and their sources of external help. The total housework time of couples, the percent of total housework done by husbands, and a scale measuring the wife’s perception of the frequency with which her husband does specific household tasks are all used to measure the division of household labor between couples. Data for 143 couples were gathered from using structured questionares and the time dairies that included one weekday and one weekend day. The findings of this study are as follows; 1) The couples receive substantial support in housework from their mothers. 2) Wives spend an average of 23 hours and 26 minutes per week on household labor, whereas husbands spend an average 7 hours and 7 minutes per week. Husbands do an average of 20.9% of all housework done by the couples. Wives typically perceive that their husbands are not frequently participating in a variety of household tasks(mean = 2.88 on a 5-point Likert scale where 1=never and 5=always). 3) Multivariate analysis reveal that working hours is negatively related to while the presence of child under 6 years old is positively related to total housework. Time availability variables(e.g. working hours and the presence of child under 6 years old) and relative resource variables(e.g. the rate of wife’s income on that of husband) are related to the percent of total housework done by husbands. The sex-role attitude variables are related to the wife’s perceptions of the frequency with which her husband does specific household tasks.

The data were collected at two times of farming season and off-farming season and classified as farm labor and household labor by labor types. SPSS(ver 12.0) statistical package was utilized to analyze the data, and t-test was performed for this study. The major findings are as follows; 1) In the case of work directly related to farming, husband's working hour was significantly longer than that of wife during the farming and off-farming season. In contrast with wife's household working hour was significantly longer than that of husband during both seasons. 2) There existed a severe work time imbalance between wife and husband during the-farming season. Based on the findings of this study, the following implications could be drawn to promote efficient labor and equal labor sharing. First, the consciousness has to be changed because the impartial labor sharing roles. We have to develope many programs to break these fixed ideas. And these programs have to be included to educational course and be instructed continuously. Second, the role of wife that household and farming work is important and will be magnified in the future.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of changes in household labor among middle-aged generations who are facing dynamic changes in the middle of their life cycle. The research method is a literature study that examines and analyzes related data. Specifically, it aims to analyze the basic characteristics of middle-aged generations and trends in household labor, which are revealed through Time Use Survey, market trend reports, newspaper articles, and books. From the perspective of family resource management, housework is an unpaid activity performed by and for family members, and is an activity that can be replaced by purchasing goods or services from the market. This study focuses on the rapid growth of the home appliance market that replaces housework with the development of technology after industrialization, and how the change of technology affected the efficiency of housework. In addition, the composition and characteristics of middle-aged generations greatly changed according to changes in family structure, form, and family value. Examining the current state of housework and changing trends of middle-aged generations, which have different characteristics from previous generations, is significant in that it can predict future market trends and suggest implications for family policies that support the improvement of the quality of life of middle-aged generations.
The purpose of this study was to review the technological deterministic debate that the development of household technology would decrease housework. For the purpose this study made use of all sorts of literature and the interview resources obtained from 86 housewives above 30 years old. It was expected the household capital goods would save housework time and labor. The total time spent in housework and fatigue however seemed not much lessened during the diffusion period. Household capital goods were also expected to enhace the housework satisfaction and increase much housework participation of husband and children; yet neither of them appeared much high during the diffusion period.

The data source for this study was the 2009 Korean Time Use Survey. The main results of this research are as follow: The study confirmed that many husbands and wives they still spend much time working. There are differences to spend in restoring labor power; many husbands spend leisure time and many wives spend household labor. Generally in a typical dual-income household, the husband works and enjoys leisure and the wife focuses on working. The concept of household labor is composed of housework and family care, and it provides a framework for understanding daily life from the perspective of work-life balance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the household labor time of Korean adults by gender and generation over the last 20 years. Data was taken from the five Statistics Korea Life Time Surveys from 1999 (t1) to 2019 (t5) (n=69,196). The major results are as follows: first, gender and generation were found to have a significant relationship with household labor time over the study period. Household labor time for females was 3.8 times that of males in 1999, but females' household labor time decreased over the next 20 years while males' increased, including both housework and family care. The female participation rate in household work also remained steady, while that for males increased. Second, in the younger and middle generations, a similar gender and generational pattern was seen. Third, in the older generation, household time and participation rates for both females and males increased. The family welfare policy and theoretical implications of these results are discussed.

This study focused on the time use of a dual-earner working group with preschool children on working and nonworking days using 2014 time-use survey data provided by Statistics Korea(KOSTAT). We collected the time-use data recorded in a 2,158 time diary. We divided the time use into 4 parts ; paid work, household labor work (including caring work), leisure and living essentials. For the statistical analysis, we used SPSS 18.0 packages, i.e., descriptive statistics, T-test, Anova with Duncan test and regression for the impact off the independent factors. The results verified gender differences in time use and recognized the usefulness of the time-allocation analysis for the diagnosis of Work and Life Balance(WLB). In the conclusion, we suggest increasing men's time allocation for household labor as a crucial solution to the WLB of dual-earner working groups. And the follow-up study should include the various factors that affect the time allocation of dual-earner groups, such as type of labor and job and children's ages.

The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of the household labors that are performed by dual income families. The methodology that has been applied in this study was a qualitative research based on in-depth interviews of a total of 10 people(8 housewives, 2 husbands) selected from the 8 different families. The 8 different families have been selected in order to identify the different family lives and the various household labor patterns that are conducted by both the working husband and the working wife. As a result, we have found out that working wives still had to manage their time in an extremely busy manner in order to balance their professional work with their household tasks. However, the household work that was being shared by the husbands also seemed to vary dynamically according to the different family situations. Although, it has shown that household tasks are divided by the person's sex, the amount of household tasks that are shared tended to increase according to the life cycle of each family.
This study examines the problematic fact that most housewives are excluded from receiving the benefits of the National Pension Plan in South Korea. The National Pension Plan assigns no value to housework or household production, which in turn discourages full-time housewives from participating voluntarily in the Plan. In this article, I propose to utilize Credit Splitting and Pension Sharing in order to take into account full-time housewives' economic contribution in the National Pension Plan. In this article, I also discuss the ranges and application methods of the Credit Splitting and Pension Sharing. For this study, I have analyzed the data of 11,967 unemployed married women living with spouses published in“Research Data on Everyday Life Time Usage”by the Korea National Statistical Office in 1999. The value of the full-time housewives' labor varies depending on the methods of estimation. However, all estimated values exceed the average value assigned to the housewives by the National Pension Corporation. It is clear that full-time housewives' unpaid labor contributes a great deal to the formation of household property and wealth, which is a valid reason for Pension Sharing and Credit Splitting. This article also provides logical factors to consider in the process of Pension Sharing and Credit Splitting, which can be used for developing computerized software to determine a full-time housewives' labor value at the time of divorce or for any other purpose.
