  • Cryptosporidium, a coccidian protozoa, commonly causes a self-limiting diarrheal illness in humans and animals. Fecal samples from various animals in Chonbuk district were observed using Sheather's aoatation technique, Kinyoun's modified acid-fast staining, and osmic acid pre-fixed Giemsa staining. The oocysts were detected in 74 cages(29.6%) out of 250 cages of mature mice, 26 (13.3%) out of 195 mature house rats, 75 (15.0%) out of 4-week-old 500 fowls, 98(19.9%) out of 6 to 8-month-old 500 pigs, and 111(22,2%) out of 2 to 5-year-old 500 dairy cattle, respectively. The degree of prevalence was slight in general, but actual prevalence was higher than infection rate because the detection rates were higher in repeated-preparation examinations in comparison to the first examination. Meanwhile, large and small types of oocysts were detected from mice, house rats, pigs, and cattle, and midium type from fowls.

  • Automatic image registration is an essential element of remote sensing because remote sensing system generates enormous amount of data, which are multiple observations of the same features at different times and by different sensor. The general process of automatic image registration includes three steps: 1) The extraction of features to be used in the matching process, 2) the feature matching strategy and accurate matching process, 3) the resampling of the data based on the correspondence computed from matched feature. For step 2) and 3), we have developed an algorithms for automated registration of satellite images with RANSAC(Random Sample Consensus) in success. However, for step 1), There still remains human operation to generate GCP Chips, which is time consuming, laborious and expensive process. The main idea of this research is that we are able to automatically generate GCP chips with comer detection algorithms without GPS survey and human interventions if we have systematic corrected satellite image within adaptable positional accuracy. In this research, we use SUSAN(Smallest Univalue Segment Assimilating Nucleus) algorithm in order to detect the comer. SUSAN algorithm is known as the best robust algorithms for comer detection in the field of compute vision. However, there are so many comers in high-resolution images so that we need to reduce the comer points from SUSAN algorithms to overcome redundancy. In experiment, we automatically generate GCP chips from IKONOS images with geo level using SUSAN algorithms. Then we extract reference coordinate from IKONOS images and DEM data and filter the comer points using texture analysis. At last, we apply automatically collected GCP chips by proposed method and the GCP by operator to in-house automatic precision correction algorithms. The compared result will be presented to show the GCP quality.

  • The incidence rates of postharvest fruit rots of four kiwifruit cultivars which were cultivated under rain-proof tunnel house at a same orchard were examined. Among them, 'Halla-Gold', 'Jecy-Gold' and 'Jecy-Sweet' were new cultivars bred in Korea. The disease incidence was varied with cultivars; 74.8%, 65.3%, 57.1% and 16.2% for 'Hayward', 'Halla-Gold', 'Jecy-Sweet' and 'Jecy-Gold' cultivars, respectively. Two hundred and eighteen isolates were obtained from diseased fruits and identified by mycological and molecular biological methods. Three fungi, Botryspheria dothidea, Diaphorthe actinidiae and Botrytis cinerea, were identified as pathogens of the postharvest fruit rots with detection rates of 95.4%, 4.6% and 2.3%, respectively.

  • Objectives: This study assessed the health risks for children exposed to phthalate through several pathways including house dust, surface wipes and hand wipes in child facilities and indoor playgrounds. Methods: The indoor samples were collected from various children's facilities (40 playrooms, 42 daycare centers, 44 kindergartens, and 42 indoor-playgrounds) in both summer (Jul-Sep, 2007) and winter (Jan-Feb, 2008). Hazard index (HI) was estimated for the non-carcinogens and the examined phthalates were diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), dibutyl-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), and butylbenzyl phthalate (BBzP). The present study examined these four kinds of samples, i.e., indoor dust, surface wipes of product and hand wipes. Results: Among the phthalates, the detection rates of DEHP were 98% in dust samples, 100% in surface wipe samples, and 95% in hand wipe samples. In this study, phthalate levels obtained from floor dust, product surface and children's hand wipe samples were similar to or slightly less compared to previous studies. The $50^{th}$ and $95^{th}$ percentile value of child-sensitive materials did not exceed 1 (HI) for all subjects in all facilities. Conclusions: For DEHP, DnBP and BBzP their detection rates through multi-routes were high and their risk based on health risk assessment was also observed to be acceptable. This study suggested that ingestion and dermal exposure could be the most important pathway of phthalates besides digestion through food.

  • In this study, image-based flock monitoring and density evaluation were conducted for broiler chicks welfare. Image data were captured by using a mono camera and region of broiler chicks in the image was detected using converting to HSV color model, thresholding, and clustering with filtering. The results show that region detection was performed with 5% relative error and 0.81 IoU on average. The detected region was corrected to the actual region by projection into ground using coordinate transformation between camera and real-world. The flock density of broiler chicks was estimated using the corrected actual region, and it was observed with an average of 80%. The developed algorithm can be applied to the broiler chicks house through enhancing accuracy of region detection and low-cost system configuration.

  • Pig chronic wasting disease, including porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), have made a continuous economic damage in pig farms. Airborne spread of livestock viruses are an important spread factor which is difficult to analyze due to invisible airflow and limitation of measurement. The objective of this study is to analyze airborne disease spread between buildings in the experimental pig farm by means of field experiment and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The field experiments were conducted to capture airborne virus using air sampler and teflon filter along multi points in the experimental pig farm. The samples were tested in terms of virus detection resulting in positive reaction for PRRS and PCV-2 viruses, which can be a firm evidence of airborne virus spread. The CFD simulation model was developed by considering complex topography, wind conditions, building arrangement, and ventilation systems and was used to analyze airborne virus spread according to different wind conditions. The CFD computed result showed a possibility of airborne virus spread via livestock aerosol from infected pig house to neighboring pig houses according to wind directions. The CFD simulation technique is expected to provide significant data for estimating and making a counterplan against airborne disease spread.

  • Leaf spots were first observed on watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris Schrad) under polyethylene film-covered green-house in November 2002. Symptoms appeared as dark-brown circles or large irregular spots on the leaves of watermelon. Occasionally, zonal growth of the lesions was observed. Under humid conditions, small black sclerotium-like bodies (sporodochia) were produced on the surface of the lesions. The sporodochia on leaf lesions were sessile, polymorphic, variable in size, 35-850 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter, and 30-470 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in depth. Conidia in sporodochium were black in mass, one-celled, rod-shaped, with rounded ends, hyaline, guttulate, and measured 6-8$\times$1.6-2.2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in size. The pathogen was identified as Myrothecium roridum Tode ex Fr. This is the first report of Myrothecium leaf spot on watermelon naturally occurring in commercial greenhouses.

  • Purpose: We investigated the relationship of depression and the ability to engage in activities of daily living in the elderly. Methods: Subjects (n = 182) were 60 years or older and who attended the Senior College of Gimhae Senior Welfare Center. We collected data via a questionnaire, through a Self- recording method and through individual interviews. We collected data on personal and general characteristics, level of depression, and activities of daily living. Results: Among all subjects, 51.1% reported having depressionMild depression was reported by 29.7% (54 subjects), moderate depression by 13.2% (24 subjects), and severe depression by 8.2% (15 subjects). Activities of daily living, including walking, climbing stairs, standing from a chair and sitting on and using toilets, using a telephone, bathing, shopping, cleaning house, and managing money were significantly lower in elderly subjects who were depressed (p<0.05). The greater the level of depression, the less able they were to engage in activities of daily living. Conclusion: These findings may help us achieve early detection of depression in the elderly and provide mediated arbitration so that they can have better health condition and greater ability to engage in activities of daily living.
