A Study on the Effects of Employee Value Proposition and the Importance of Job Rotation on the Subjective Career Success (호텔 종사원의 직원가치와 직무순환 중요도가 경력성공에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • This study analyzed the effects of Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and the impotance of a job rotation system on the subjective career success. The total 379 samples were surveyed from employees engaging in domestic hotel enterprises located in Seoul using convenient sampling method. The result of this research is as followings. First, EVP has total 5 factors('career development,' 'affiliation,' 'work environment,' 'work content' and 'pay & reward') and job rotation has total 3 factors('individual capacity improvement,' 'procedural justice,' and 'career development'). Second, the results of hypotheses test using a series of multiple regression analysis indicate that EVP factors including 'career development,' 'affiliation,' 'work environment,' and 'work content' influence subjective career success. However, EVP factor of 'pay & reward' does not influence subjective career success. Similarly, EVP factors excluding 'pay & reward' affect a job rotation system. Lastly, a job rotation system positively affects subjective career success. Based on the analysis results, we could draw the importance of the non-financial reward instead of financial reward in the perception of employees' subjective career success. As a research implication, the importance of the creative organization culture was suggested in the conclusion section.

A Study on the Differences in Hotel Choice Factors according to the Payment Level of Accommodation Charge (숙박비 지불수준에 따른 호텔선택요인 차이연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of payment of accommodation charge to hotel customers and to analyze the differences in hotel choice factors according to the level of payment(low, medium and high prices) to present marketing measures for attracting customers by hotel price range. To achieve the purpose of research, a survey was conducted on hotel customers from February 1, 2020 to April 30, 2020. A total of 350 questionnaires were distributed, eliminating 45 inappropriate copies for analysis, and finally utilizing 305 questionnaires for analysis. According to the analysis, among the basic factors, the biggest difference between groups was hotel size, breakfast menu, restaurants, and auxiliary facilities. It was analyzed that there are differences between groups in the amenity section in the room factor and outside tourism programs in the incidental factor. The main factors were analyzed as the most important factor, although there were no differences between groups. Based on this, the marketing plan is proposed as follows. Low-cost hotels are targeted at women in their 20s with high school diplomas, and it is recommended to have low-cost price policies and promotions. Mid-priced hotels are targeted at men in their 40s with college degrees, and they should strive to operate shuttle buses, promote room prices, and educate employees. In the case of high-priced hotels, it was analyzed that overall service reinforcement, employee education, and viral marketing are important, targeting high school graduates in their 20s.

  • As consumers are more conscious about the preferred traits and branding in restaurant selection, restaurant practitioners are getting more interested in the traits which constitute and influence consumers' brand association. Dining selection is known to be a complicated psychological process that consumers undergo, incorporating social and cultural values, personal tastes, and other psychological factors. This study was designed to investigate the specific non-food traits perceived by consumers in fine restaurant selection. Also, it prioritized those examined traits. Building on exploratory qualitative research, results from 11 interviews through focus group sessions were utilized in data analysis. Content analysis of the interviews enabled categorization of the associations. The categorized variables were utilized for empirical data analysis of conjoint analysis. First, the results suggested five superior traits such as atmosphere, price, customer relations, employee competence, and convenience of systems in fine restaurant brand association. Second, they were prioritized in the order of atmosphere, price, consumer relations, employee competence, and convenience. Finally this study provided practical implications for fine restaurant professionals in linking consumers' psychologically networked traits to brand selection.

The Effects of Emotional Intelligence on the Customer Orientation and Customer Relationship Management Performance of Hotel Employees (호텔기업 종업원의 감성지능이 고객지향성과 CRM성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose - This study aimed to (a) investigate the effects of emotional intelligence on customer orientation, (b) examine the impact of customer orientation on customer relationship management (CRM) performance (including CRM-related variables such as 'relationship commitment,' 'image of corporation,' and 'customer loyalty'), and (c) identify the conceptual framework of emotional intelligence. Research design, data, and methodology - The data were collected using a questionnaire given to a sample of employees of luxury hotels in the metropolitan area. To test the hypotheses, AMOS were conducted for the 271 respondents of the sample using the SPSS Win 17.0 software. The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) has been on the radar of many leaders and managers over the past few decades. Emotional intelligence is generally accepted to be a combination of emotional and interpersonal competencies that influence behavior, thoughts, and interactions with others. Emotional intelligence consists of four factors: understanding the self's emotion, understanding other people's emotions, emotion utilization, and emotion control. Understanding the self's emotion means to understand of my own emotions. Understanding other people's emotions is to understand of the emotions of the people around me and to know how my friends feel based on their behavior. The concept of emotion utilization means to set goals for myself and then try to achieve them, encouraging myself to do my best. The concept of emotion control means I can control my temper, handle difficult situations rationally, and calm down quickly when I am very angry. Results - As a result of the analysis, three factors (understanding the self's emotion, understanding of other people's emotions, and emotion utilization) were shown to have a significant effect on customer orientation. Emotion control had an insignificant effect on customer orientation. Only emotion control makes it difficult to solve customers' problems because it is a passive behavior. In order to solve the customers' problems, hotel employees have to show a positive attitude. Second, customer orientation had a significant effect on customer relationship management performance (customer relationship commitment, corporate image, and customer loyalty). In other words, customer orientation increases commitment to customer relationships. For example, employees who have a customer-orientated perspective provide good service to their customers, while employees who don't have a customer-orientated perspective can't satisfy their customers. Customer orientation can also generate a good image among customers, because they evaluate the image of a hotel through the behavior of hotel employees. So it is very important for employees to show excellent customer orientation. Conclusions - It is very important for hotel CEOs to manage their employees' emotional intelligence. In order to increase their employees' emotional intelligence abilities, CEOs have to manage the overall corporate culture and reward programs to achieve what they want. This is because the system can lead to a customer-orientated mind-set and CRM performance among employees. As a result, the hotel CEO has to pay attention to the emotional intelligence of employees to achieve strong CRM performance. The sentence as originally written was a bit unclear. The Effect of Service Orientation of Hotels on CRM Performance (호텔기업의 서비스지향성이 CRM성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to identify the effects of hotel organizational service orientation on CRM(customer relationship management) performance. The organizational service orientation has been considered very important for excellent service quality in many existing studies. The data were collected from employees in deluxe hotels of the metropolitan area with the questionnaire. To test the hypotheses, using AMOS were conducted for 379 respondents as a sample collected. The results show that customer's authority, service training, service reward significantly influenced to competitive advantage. Among the three variables the service reward was especially significant. In addition, competitive advantage significantly influenced to CRM performance (relationship commitment, image of corporation, customer's loyalty). So it is very important for employee to give a authority, share of service training program, give a reward what they want. Because that system can lead to the good performance. As a result, the CEO of hotel has to attention the organizational service orientation for achievement of the CRM performance.

  • Though the concept emotional labor in hotel employees is very important in the theoretical and practical perspective, the extant study has not yet studied. Based on the existing literature on the effects of emotional labor, including job stress and burnout, the hypotheses were suggested and date analyses were performed to verify these hypotheses. Data gathering were performed by self-administered questionaries on the samples of 330 hotel employees in Seoul. Finding were as Following. Firstly, attentiveness to required display rules, variety of emotional display rule, emotional dissonance was positively relatively to job stress. Secondly, variety of emotional display rule, emotional dissonance was positively relatively to burnout. Thirdly, job stress was positively relatively to burnout. The result of this study will be helpful for the hotel industry which gave needs to establish the marketing strategies.

Job Characteristic and Musculoskeletal Symptom Prevalence in Hotel Employee (호텔업종사자의 근골격계부담작업 특성과 근골격계유병률)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to obtain the fundamental data on prevention and management of musculoskeletal symptoms, and to assess the prevalence, risk factors and job characteristics of musculoskeletal symptoms in hotel employees. Methods: The work sampling analysis was carried out by OWAS, and the prevalence was surveyed in term of NIOSH diagnostic criteria and work related risk factors on 263 hotel employees in Busan, Korea, using structured self-administered questionnaire from Jan. 20 to Feb. 26, 2010. The collected data were analysed by the SPSS 18.0. Results: 1) The prevailing rate of musculoskeletal symptoms by NIOSH diagnostic criteria was 43.80% for total subjects and 27.91% for shoulders, 12.79% for neck, and 11.24% for back/waist, respectively. 2) Factors affecting the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms were examined and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed. As a result, women, having a burden of musculoskeletal work, increased work time in case of a higher risk of the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms (P<0.1). 3) The body parts and the department with the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms showed a significant difference (P<0.05) compared with symptoms on shoulders, arms/elbows, and ankles/feet. Conclusion: The prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms by NIOSH diagnostic criteria in hotel employees was relatively high showing 43.80% for total subjects and higher in departments of laundry, reservations, cooking, food&beverage, dishwashing, and room cleaning than others.

  • Sales-force management practices(e.g., selection, training, rewards, evaluation) constitute a crucial aspect of the sales force control system, as they influence on the salesperson's role ambiguity, satisfaction and performance. But it is difficult to find studies on the effects of hotel's sales force control system. So, we studied about this subject more deeply. The purpose of our research is to examine important relationships among sales force control system(e.g., sales territory design, training, reward, training, supervisor's support), job attitudes(satisfaction and role ambiguity), and sales force performance. A conceptual model is presented and hypotheses are developed. This study contributes to sales management research of hotel sales person in some important ways. This study offers new insights both to sales practitioners and researchers. First, this study introduces a new approaching method for developing new model of hotel sales-force research. Second, in the practical implications, managers should take actions as like an encouragement, direction, monitering, and education of sales know-how to reduce the employee's role ambiguity and to improve job satisfaction and sales performance.

  • This study aims to research on the relationship between job resources, symptoms of burnout, and depersonalization and its impact on the customer orientation. Using data from hotel frontline employees of Seoul in Korea, it seeks to investigate the mediating effects of burnout symptoms and depersonalization to the relationships between job resources and customer orientation. Data was analyzed using Structural Equations Modeling (SEM) by of AMOS program. The research advances understanding of the relationships between job resources, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization as a situational personality trait and the FLE customer orientation in five deluxe star hotel environment. The findings highlight the value of burnout and depersonalization, and suggest a number of practical implications for the identification, recruitment and retention of hotel employees.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the current status of 30 restaurants targeted for customized-visit consulting. For this process, experts visited restaurants and conducted consulting to improve the effectiveness of management for restaurants. A frequency analysis was used for general details, and a questionnaire survey was conducted to consult employees and customer groups. The analysis and consulting results were as follows: Firstly,menu need to be improved through restaurants' sanitary state and menu quality improvement. New menu should be developed through continuous training for restaurant operators, the relevant organizations, and cooking skill experts. Secondly, restaurants' cooking skill and knowledge should be secured by training of restaurant operators from the relevant organizations and experts to acquire cooking skills. In conclusion, restaurants' capability needs to be consolidated through persistent and cyclical process to maintain competitive menus and cooking skills. The results also showed that employee group's MOT, foods, menu, and facility education/training should be fortified. In order to reinvigorate the restaurant industry, marketers need to offer continuous education/training and consulting for employees to improve their satisfaction.
