  • We give conditions so that a polynomial be factorable through an $L_{\gamma}({\mu})$ space. Among them, we prove that, given a Banach space X and an index m, every absolutely summing operator on X is 1-factorable if and only if every 1-dominated m-homogeneous polynomial on X is right 1-factorable, if and only if every 1-dominated m-homogeneous polynomial on X is left 1-factorable. As a consequence, if X has local unconditional structure, then every 1-dominated homogeneous polynomial on X is right and left 1-factorable.

  • Motzkin and Straus established a close connection between the maximum clique problem and a solution (namely graph-Lagrangian) to the maximum value of a class of homogeneous quadratic multilinear functions over the standard simplex of the Euclidean space in 1965. This connection and its extensions were successfully employed in optimization to provide heuristics for the maximum clique problem in graphs. It is useful in practice if similar results hold for hypergraphs. In this paper, we develop a homogeneous multilinear function based on the structure of hypergraphs and their complement hypergraphs. Its maximum value generalizes the graph-Lagrangian. Specifically, we establish a connection between the clique number and the generalized graph-Lagrangian of 3-uniform graphs, which supports the conjecture posed in this paper.

  • The newly synthesized homogeneous chiral Co(III) salen complexes were anchored non-covalently on the acidic sites of mesoporous Al-SBA-15. The Bronsted and Lewis acidic sites are attributed to the immobilization of fluorine functionalized chiral salen complexes on the supports. XRD, BET, TEM, FT-IR and ESCA (XPS) analyses were performed to characterize the property of support, and the structure of new homogeneous and heterogeneous chiral Co salen catalyst. The homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts could be applied in asymmetric ring opening of epichlorohydrine (ECH) by water. They showed very high enantioselectivity and a good yield up to 99% in the catalytic synthesis of optically active products.

  • The rational analytical solutions are presented for functionally graded beams subjected to arbitrary tractions on the upper and lower surfaces. The Young's modulus is assumed to vary exponentially along the thickness direction while the Poisson's ratio keeps unaltered. Within the framework of symplectic elasticity, zero eigensolutions along with general eigensolutions are investigated to derive the homogeneous solutions of functionally graded beams with no body force and traction-free lateral surfaces. Zero eigensolutions are proved to compose the basic solutions of the Saint-Venant problem, while general eigensolutions which vary exponentially with the axial coordinate have a significant influence on the local behavior. The complete elasticity solutions presented here include homogeneous solutions and particular solutions which satisfy the loading conditions on the lateral surfaces. Numerical examples are considered and compared with established results, illustrating the effects of material inhomogeneity on the localized stress distributions.

  • This paper studies the effect of the relaxation time on a two-dimensional thermoelastic medium which has a doubly porous structure in the presence of diffusion and gravity. The normal mode analysis is used to obtain the analytic expressions of the physical quantities, which we take the solution form in the exponential image. We have discussed a homogeneous thermoelastic half-space with double porosity with the effect of diffusion and gravity. The equations of generalized thermoelastic material with double porosity structure with one relaxation time have been developed. Moreover, the expressions of many physical quantities are explained. The general solutions, under specific boundary conditions of the problem, were found in some detail. In addition, numerical results are computed.

  • Weyl structure can be viewed as generalizations of Riemannian metrics. We study Weyl structures which are critical points of the squared L$^2$ norm functional of the full curvature tensor, defined on the space of Weyl structures on a compact 4-manifold. We find some relationship between these critical Weyl structures and the critical Riemannian metrics. Then in a search for homogeneous critical structures we study left-invariant metrics on some solv-manifolds and prove that they are not critical.

  • This paper presents a study of soil-structure interaction problems using infinite elements. The infinite elements are formulated for homogeneous and layered soil media, based on approximate expressions for three components of propagating waves, namely Rayleigh, compressive and shear waves. The integration scheme which was proposed for problems with single wave component by Zienkiewicz is expanded to the multi-wave problem. Verifications are carried out on rigid circular footings which are placed on and embedded in elastic half space. Numerical analysis is performed for a containment structure of a nuclear power plant subjected seismic excitation.

  • A three-dimensional, porous collagen/chitosan complex sponge was prepared to closely simulate basic extracellular matrix (ECM) constitutes, collagen and glycosaminoglycan. The complex sponge was prepared by a lyophilization method and had the regular network with highly porous structure, suitable for cell adhesion and growth. The pores were well interconnected, and their distribution was fairly homogeneous. The complex sponge was crosslinked using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) to increase its boilogical stability and enhance its mechanical properties. The crosslinking medium has a great effect on the inner structure of the sponge. The homogeneous, porous structure of the sponge was remarkably collapsed in an aqueous crosslinking medium. However, the morphology of the sponge remained almost intact in a water/ethanol mixture crosslinking milieu. Mechanical properties of the collagen/chitosan sponge were significantly enhanced by EDC-mediated crosslinking. The potential of the sponge as a scaffold for tissue engineering was investigated using a Chinese hamster ovary cell (CHO-K1) line.
