  • We present a fast/parallel Poisson solver on disks, based on efficient evaluation of the exact solution given by the Newtonian potential and the Poisson integral. Derived from an integral formula-tion it is more accurate and simpler in parallel implementation and in upgrading to a higher order algorithm than an algorithm which solves the linear system obtained from a differential formulation.

  • We present an application of the variational multiscale methodology to the computation of concentric annular pipe flow. Isogeometric analysis is utilized for higher order approximation of the solution using Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) functions. The ability of NURBS to exactly represent curved geometries makes NURBS-based isogeometric analysis attractive for the application to the flow through the curved channel.

  • In order to implement high pixel density in AMLCDs, high aperture ratio is a very important design factor. We have implemented VGA panels with IPS and TN modes. IPS mode is a very attractive solution to meet the requirement for mobile phone displays. It provides much higher aperture ratio as well as wider viewing angle at extremely high pixel density over 400 ppi.

  • In this paper, we introduce an explicit formula for the solutions and discuss the global behavior of solutions of the difference equation $$x_{n+1}={\frac{ax_{n-3}}{b-cx_{n-1}x_{n-3}}}$$, $n=0,1,{\ldots}$ where a, b, c are positive real numbers and the initial conditions $x_{-3}$, $x_{-2}$, $x_{-1}$, $x_0$ are real numbers.

  • This study presents buckling analysis of a simply supported sandwich plate with functionally graded porous layers. In the kinematic relation of the plate, a hyperbolic shear displacement model is used. The governing equations of the problem are derived by using the principle of virtual work. In the solution of the governing equations, the Navier procedure is implemented. In the porosity effect, four different porosity types are used for functionally graded sandwich layers. In the numerical examples, the effects of the porosity parameters, porosity types and geometry parameters on the critical buckling of the functionally graded sandwich plates are investigated.

  • In order to investigate the effect of front channel in DAL (dual active layer) TFT (thin film transistor), we successfully fabricated DAL TFT composed of ITZO and IGZO as active layer using the solution process. In this structure, ITZO and IGZO active layer were used as front and back channel, respectively. The front channel was changed from 0.05 to 0.2 M at fixed 0.3 M IGZO of back channel. When the mol concentration of front channel was increased, the threshold voltage (VTH) was increased from 2.0 to -11.9 V and off current also was increased from 10-12 to 10-11. This phenomenon is due to increasing the carrier concentration by increasing the volume of the front channel. The saturation mobility of DAL TFT with 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 M ITZO were 0.45, 4.3, and $0.65cm2/V{\cdot}s$. Even though 0.2 M ITZO has higher carrier concentration than 0.05 and 0.1 M ITZO, the 0.1 M ITZO/0.3 M IGZO DAL TFT has the highest saturation mobility. This is due to channel defect such as pores and pin-holes. These defect sites were created during deposition process by solvent evaporation. Due to these defect sites, the 0.1 M ITZO/0.3 M IGZO DAL TFT shows the higher saturation mobility than that of DAL TFT with front channel of 0.2 M ITZO.

  • Cu-Al-Mn shape memory alloys of a variety of composition were characterized in terms of shape memory properties and cold workability. Cold workability tested by cold rolling indicated that the alloys solution treated in the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ region have a higher ductility than those solution treated in the ${\beta}$ region. Also it is known that cold workability increased with the decrease in Al content in the ${\beta}$ region. This seems to be resulted from the fact that Mn addition causes to expand ${\beta}$ region toward lower Al content and lower order-disorder transition temperature, consequently, ${\beta}$ of excellent workability being frozen even at room temperature. Experimental results regarding shape memory showed that the properties were better with a higher Al contents at a given Mn content, which is closely related with martensitic transformation. It is also shown that super elasticity limit was enhanced with decrease in the yield strength of alloys because a lower yield strength seems to initiates slip at the lower applied stress.

  • Non-sintering cement was manufactured with briquette ash. Alkali activator for compression bodies used a NaOH solution. In order to apply alkali-activated briquette ash and the non-sintering cement to concrete, several experimental studies were performed. It was necessary to study the binder obtained by means of a substitute for the cement. This study concentrated on strength development according to the concentration of NaOH solution, the curing temperature, and the curing time. The highest compressive strength of compression bodies appeared as $353kgf/cm^2$ cured at $80^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. This result indicates that a higher curing temperature is needed to get a higher strength body. Also, geopolymerization was examined by SEM and XRD analysis after the curing of compression bodies. According to SEM and XRD, the main reaction product in the alkali activated briquette ash is aluminosilicate crystal.

  • Batch experiments were performed to investigate the feasibility of a surfactant-enhanced soil washing process for soils heavily contaminated with crude oil in Kuwait. TPH concentration of the contaminated soil was 223,754 mg/kg, sampled from the bottom of a vaporized oil extraction pond in the Burgan reservoir field. Commercialized eight nonionic surfactants (Tween and Tergitol series) were used to measure the aqueous solubility for the crude oil. Among them, two Tergitol surfactants were used to evaluate the TPH removal efficiency of the surfactant-enhanced soil washing for heavily contaminated Kuwait soil. The solubility of the crude oil in surfactant solution was in the order Tergitol 15-S-7 > Tergitol 15-S-9 > Tergitol 15-S-12 > Tween-80 > Tween-20 > Tween-60, which showed that the crude oil solubilities of the Tergitol series were higher than those of the Tween series. The TPH removal efficiencies of 2% and 5% Tergitol 15-S-9 solution were 59% and 65%, respectively. Because the residual TPH concentration in the washed soil was still higher than the clean-up level (10,000 mg/kg), the soil washing process was repeated five times. After the fifth washing, the residual TPH concentration in the soil went down to 7,680 mg/kg and its removal efficiency was 97%.
