The purpose of this study was to examine whether uniform reforming behavior in high school girls is related to body image distortion, and to obtain objective data to help in guiding students in the wearing of uniforms at school. 661 freshmen and junior girls at six high schools in Kwangju city responded to questionnaires. The data was analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Pearson’s product-moment correlations using the SPSS 12.0 program. According to their body satisfaction level, three groups (haggard distortion, normal, overweight distortion) were identified. The data showed that a few high school girls were unable to recognize their body types correctly. It also indicated that school uniform reforming behaviors in high school girls were not related to their body image or body satisfaction level. So, it seems that students need guidance in the building up of an objective body image and wearing uniforms to fit their body types.
Purpose: Adolescent obesity is a growing problem. This study examined the relationships between different types of physical activity and obesity in male and female middle and high school students. Methods: This study used the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data of 2007. The study included 282 male and female middle and high school students who completed health survey questionnaires regarding physical activity. Physical activity was measured with vigorous and moderate activity and walking. BMI was used as an obesity indicator. Analyses were done using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and chi-square test. In addition, multiple logistic regression were conducted to investigate the relationship between physical activity and obesity when adjusting for covariates. SAS/WIN 9.1 was used. Results: Boys spent more days in vigorous and moderate physical activity than girls (p for vigorous activity: <.001, for moderate activity: <.001). There was no significant difference in walking activity between boys and girls and between middle and high school students. Only days spent in vigorous activity was significantly higher in middle school student compared with high school students (p=.013). According to the relationship between physical activity and obesity, moderate physical activity was significantly related to BMI for high school boys (p=.041). However, when adjusting for age, sex, school, parental income, daily caloric intake, physical activity was not significantly related to obesity. Conclusions: The results showed that male and female middle and high school students spent not enough days in doing low moderate and vigorous physical activity. Thus, this strengthens the need to increase physical activity level in these populations. In spite of non-significant relationship between physical activity and obesity from multivariate analysis, increasing moderate physical activity for high school boy could be effective to prevent and manage obesity, since significant difference between moderate activity and obesity in this population.
Purpose: This study was done to investigate behavior related to viewing pornography sites by primary, middle, and high school students in one province. Methods: The participants were 2,939 primary (5, 6 grade), middle and high school students (1, 2 and 3 grade), chosen at random in big cities, small towns and rural areas of North Cholla Province. Results: The first experience of finding pornography sites by oneself was 21.1% for the total sample and for primary school students 6.8%, for middle school students, 31.0%, and for high school students, 62.2%. The first time on a pornography site was highest for middle school students (62.0%) and for grade, middle school 1 grade (25.7%). The pornography use resulted in difficulties with study (11.3%), desire to imitate what was seen in pornography (10.9%), imitation of what was seen the pornography (3.9%), and desire to visit pornography sites everyday (2.3%). Pornography contact behavior was related to gender and school type (p<.05). Independent access to pornography and experiencing difficulties with study were related to area of residence (p<.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that systematic education policy and further research on needs for pornography contact should be examined to develop programs to decrease pornography contact behavior.
The purpose of this study was to provide information on how to improve both the satisfaction and the current sizing system for the school uniform focused on middle and high school girls' students. For the satisfaction of their school uniform, there were statistical significance by the academic year in jacket design, blouse color, and skirt design in the case of middle school girls'. On the other hand, high school girls' evaluation of school uniform was significantly different in jacket color, jacket design, blouse color, textile of blouse, skirt color, and skirt design by the academic year. For the assessment of wearing motion, there was no significant difference by the grade in both middle school and high school girls'. However, it was shown more frequency of discomfort than that of comfort. For the evaluation of sizing fitness, the breadth of sleeve in jacket and the width of blouse were statistical significance in middle school girls' by the grade while the width of jacket, he breadth of sleeve in jacket, the length of blouse, the width of blouse and length of sleeve in blouse were different in high school students by the grade.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the school related stress and the need of mental health education among adolescents. Method: The subjects were selected by convenient sampling comprising of 1,049 high school students. The instrument of the study was the modified School Stress Scale by Kim (2002) and the Scale of Mental Health Education Need developed by Hyun et al. (2005). Results: School-related stress and the need of mental health education were higher in female students than male ones. Among the types of stress, stress related to academic activities was highest for all students. The need of stress management was highest, which was followed by the need of self-management. As for the need of mental health education and school-related stress according to general characteristics, the need was significantly different according to the Sender, grade, and experience in mental health education, and school-related stress was significantly different according to gender and grade. Conclusion: This study revealed that there was a correlation between school-related stress and the need of mental health education in high school students. This study also suggested the basic information and framework for planning, developing, and providing the school based mental health promotion education for the high school students.
Purpose: This study investigated differences in the relationships of factors including emotional problems, self-perception, parental behavior, and peer attachment with smartphone dependency (SD) among middle school, high school, and college students in South Korea. Methods: This study used data from a nationwide sample of 1,882 middle school, 1,821 high school, and 1,346 college students who owned smartphones. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were conducted to investigate the predictors of SD based on school level. Results: SD scores significantly differed across school levels. Female gender, more aggressive behavior, less ego-identity, and less monitoring parental behavior were linked to higher SD at all school levels. Less self-esteem and intrusive parental behavior were linked to SD in middle school students. In high school students, additional factors related to higher levels of SD were resilience, intrusive / inconsistent parental behavior, peer trust and alienation, and depression. Additionally, resilience, over-expectant parental behavior, and peer trust were linked to higher SD in college students. Conclusion: This study provides insights into SD and predictors of SD among middle school, high school, and college students. Based on these findings, SD prevention programs should be developed according to the developmental stages of adolescents and young adults.
Objectives: The rapidly changing dietary environment requires a study that addresses the status of middle and high school students regarding their consumption of convenience food sold at convenience stores. Methods: This study examined adolescents' lifestyle patterns, dietary habits, and status of consuming convenience food at convenience stores. A total of 659 students (329 middle school students and 330 high school students) in Incheon participated in this questionnaire survey. Results: The mean age of the subjects was 13.7 years for the middle school students, and 16.6 years for the high school students. The gender and grade distributions in the middle and high school students were similar. The middle school students reported that they spent more time using electronic devices (p<0.001) or watching TV (p<0.001) than high school students. More than 60% of middle and high school students consumed convenience food at convenience stores without statistical difference between the two groups. The main reason for consuming convenience food from convenience stores was its convenience followed by taste in both groups. Despite the high frequency of consuming convenience food, the students rarely checked the nutrition labels at the time of purchase. On the other hand, they were still most concerned about the nutritional value of the convenience foods when they consumed convenience foods. The most frequently consumed convenience food was ramyon in both groups. Significant positive correlations were observed between the frequency of consuming convenience food at convenience stores and lifestyle factors for the middle school students, including monthly allowance, time for using electronic devices, and number of private lessons. For the high school students, however, the only monthly allowance had a significant positive correlation with the consumption. Conclusions: Adolescents are increasingly exposed to convenience foods and relevant nutritional issues are a concern. Therefore, a dietary environment that is adequately formed for the healthy development of youth as well as systematic nutrient education that is appropriately designed for both middle and high school students is required.
The purpose of this study were to investigate middle and high school students' food habits and food attitudes, and to assess student's nutrient consumption. A self-administered questionnaire was developed based on review of literature. The questionnaire consisted of three sections (food habits, food attitudes, and food consumption). The questionnaires were distributed to 4,050 students enrolled in 34 middle and high schools located in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gyeongnam provinces. A final response rate was 88.2% (3,570) excluding responses that had significant missing data. Data of the food habits and food attitudes were analyzed with descriptive analysis, $x^2$-test, and t-test using SPSS WIN(ver.11.0). The student's self-reported food consumption data was converted into nutrient consumption using conversion factor. Many middle and high school students skipped breakfast and/or dinner. Approximately 29% of the students did not eat vegetables and fruits. Scores of the middle school student's attitudes(19.1) towards foods were significantly higher than those of the high school student's attitudes(18.7)(p<.001). Student's nutrient intakes were estimated according to the student's self-reported food consumption data. The nutrient intakes were compared with DRIs(Dietary Reference Intakes: DRIs) for their age groups. The result of EAR(Estimated Average Requirement: EAR) cut-point method demonstrated 57.7% of middle school boys, 64.4% of middle school girls, 70.2% of high school boys, and 71.0% of high school girls did not meet EAR for Calcium. Additionally, it showed that 39.0% of middle school boys, 23.7% of middle school girls, 58.4% of high school boys, and 24.4% of high school girls did not consume EAR for Vitamin $B_1$. 25.7% of middle school boys did not meet EAR for Vitamin $B_2$, while 44.4% high school boys did not satisfy EAR for Vitamin $B_2$.
이 연구에서는 공업계열 고등학교의 발전 계획 수립을 위한 학교 컨설팅의 이론을 탐색하고, 컨설팅 모델과 수행기법 모델을 제시한 후, 제시한 모델과 컨설팅 수행 기법에 의하여 수행된 C 공업고등학교의 컨설팅 사례에 대하여 분석하였다. 최근까지 수행된 학교컨설팅은 대부분이 수업 및 장학 컨설팅에 대한 것이며, 학교경영컨설팅 분야에 대한 연구는 아직 미미한 실정이다. 이 논문에서는 공업계열 고등학교에 적합한 학교 컨설팅 모델을 구안하여 착수, 진단, 실행기획, 실행, 종료의 5단계로 제시하였다. 컨설팅 모델을 적용한 C공업고등학교의 컨설팅 사례를 분석하였고, 이는 향후 공업계열 고등학교의 컨설팅 연구의 기초 자료를 제공하고자 함이다. 학교컨설팅 모델의 5단계에 의하여 C공업고등학교의 현황 분석, 설문 조사, SWOT 분석, Issue Tree, 학교 진단 평가 등을 하였다. C공업고등학교의 발전 전략을 수립하기 위하여 Issue Tree에 기초하여 '문제점 및 개선방안 표'를 작성한 후, Pay-Off Matrix를 작성하였다. 최종적으로 C공업고등학교가 단기 및 중장기적으로 해결해야 할 발전 계획을 도출할 수 있었다.

Hypotheses: The following hypotheses were tested for this study. 1) There would be significant differences in the extent of school-satisfaction, depending on the class level and major. 2) There would be significant differences in the value criterion with which the fisheries high school students make decisions on their careers, depending on the grades, majors, and the levels of school-satisfaction. 3) There would be significant differences in the human factors which affect their decision-making on their career, depending on the class levels, majors, and the levels of school satisfaction. 4) There would be significant differences in the patterns of behavior they take when they make decisions on their careers depending on the grades, majors and the levels of school satisfaction. 3. Methods of the study: For the verification of the above hypotheses, a questionaire was developed by the researcher, and the questionaire was answered by the total 440 students from three fisheries high schools, located in the rural and urban areas, out of 8 fisheries high schools in Korea. The questionaire was composed of two major parts: school-satisfaction (10 items) and career decision making patterns (39 items). The career decision-making patterns include 16 value criterion items, 10 human category items, and 13 behavior category items. 4. Results of the study: 1) School satisfaction; There was no significant difference in school satisfaction depending on the class level and major. 2) Value criteria; a) Almost of the fisheries high school students think that the potential for advancement, job security, and salary are important factors for their job. b) The seafarer-students rated the salary, prestige of the occupation and leadership to be important than the nonseafarer-students. The nonseafarer-students rated the stabilization of their livelihood and opportunity to use their creative ideas than the seafarer-students. c) The students unsatisfied with their school emphasize the working environment, variety of work duties and leisure more than the satisfied ones. 3) Human factors: a) The fisheries high school students are affected most by their homeroom teachers, major teachers and their parents, but they are less influenced by their counselor. b) The seniors are more affected by their friends or classmates than the freshmen, and especially seafarer-students are more affected by major teachers. c) The persons, who are working in the occupation they are interested in, exert more influence on unsatisfied students than class-teachers do. 4) Behavior patterns; a) Most of them want test their abilities. b) The nonseafarer-students and seniors tend to depend on their own intuitions. c) The seafarer-students, the freshmen, and the satisfied with their school tend to discuss with other persons, and the unsatisfied tend to be influenced by the information that they collect for themselves.
