  • High impact polystyrene (HIPS)/organoclay nanocomposites via in situ polymerization were synthesized and their rheological properties were investigated. For the study, two types of organoclays were used: a commercially available organoclay, Cloisite 10A (C10A), and a laboratory-prepared organoclay having a reactant group, vinylclay (ODVC). The X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy experiments revealed that the HIPS/ODVC nanocomposite achieved an exfoliated structure, whereas the HIPS/C10A nanocomposite achieved an intercalated structure. In the small-amplitude oscillatory shear experiments, both storage modulus and complex viscosity increased with increasing organoclay. A pronounced effect of the organoclay content was observed, resulting in larger storage modulus and stronger yield behavior in the low frequency region when compared to neat HIPS. The crossover frequencies associated with the inverse of a longest relaxation time decreased as the organoclay content increased. Over a certain value of ODVC content, a change of pattern in rheological properties could be found, indicating a solid-like response with storage modulus greater than loss modulus at all frequencies.

  • A dual-modulus prescaler divides the input signal by one of the moduli according to the control signal. In this paper, a new fast dual-modulus prescaler is proposed. The proposed prescaler has a ratioed-NOR structure different from a conventional ratioed-NAND structure. The proposed one can operate at a higher speed by using parallely connected NMOSs instead of using series-connected ones. HSPICE simulation results using HYUNDAI 0.65(m 2-poly 2-metal CMOS process parameters show that the maximum operating frequency of the proposed dual-modulus prescaler is 2.8㎓ with power consumption of 40.7㎽ at 5V supply voltage at $25^{\circ}C$. The proposed dual-modulus prescaler can be utilized for the frequency-synthesis in cellular radio front-ends.

  • For the design of concrete structures in the serviceability limit state, the uniaxial static modulus of elasticity may be a most important parameter. In particular, this may be so just for a deflection control of the structure. Even in new concrete codes, however, the elastic modulus is normally presented on the form of general empirical relationships with the compressive strength and density of concrete. Normally, there is a large uncertainty associated with the general equations obtained by regression. Thus, in a typical plot of static modulus of elasticity vs. compressive strength, a large scatter can be observed at same strength. The aim of this study is to present the method for obtain the maximum modulus of elasticity at same compressive strength. In the present paper report the effects of mix ingredients on the modulus of elasticity of high-strength concrete. The test of 284 cylinder specimens arc conducted for type I with 11 % replacement of fly-ash cement concretes. Different water-hinder ratio, amounts of water and coarse aggregate as variables were investigated. And also analyzed it statistically by using SAS.

  • In this paper, we consider both maximum modulus and minimum modulus on a circle of some polynomials. These give rise to interesting examples that are about moduli of Chebyshev polynomials and certain sums of polynomials on a circle. Moreover, we obtain some root locations of difference quotients of Chebyshev polynomials.

  • In this study, an epoxy insulation barrier for high voltage GIS was developed using epoxy and a filler with a Young's modulus of 11 GPa. The material was investigated using a simulation of the principal stress, displacement, and safety factors while optimizing the profile shape. The simulation showed that thelarger Young's modulus of the $Al_2O_3$ filler compared to the $SiO_2$ in the epoxy insulation can contribute to an increase in resistance to mechanical fracturing for theoptimized profile barrier in high voltage GIS. In addition, the safety factor was improved by 10%. It can be concluded that the mechanical fracturing properties of the insulation barrier can be enhanced by increasing the content of the elastic filler, $Al_2O_3$, for high voltage GIS applications.

  • It is very important to determine the thermo-mechanical characteristics of the rock mass surrounding the repository of radioctive waste and the LPG storage cavern. In this study, Hwasoon-Shist. Dado-Tuff adn Chunan-Tonalite were the selected rock types. Temperature dependence of the mechanical properteis such as uniaxial compressive strength, tensile strength, Young's modulus was investigated by measuring the behaviour of these properties due to the variation of temperature. Also, the characteristics of strength and deformation of these rocks were examined through high-temperature triaxial compression tests with varing temperatures and confining pressures. Important results obtained are as follows: In high temperature tests, the uniaxial compressive strength and Yong's modulus of Tonalite showed a sligth increase at a temperature up to 300$^{\circ}C$ and a sharp decrease beyond 300$^{\circ}C$, and the tensile strength showed a linear decrease with increasing heating-temperature. In high-temperature triaxial compression test, both the failure stress and Young's modulus of Tonalite increased with the increase of confining pressure at constant heating-temperature, and the failure stress decreased at 100$^{\circ}C$ but increased at 200$^{\circ}C$ under a constant confining pressure. In low temperature tests, the uniaxial compressive and tensile strengths and Young's modulus of these rocks increased as the cooling-temperature is reduced. Also, the uniaxial compressive and tensile strengths of wet rock specimens are less than those of dry rock specimens.

  • The Elastic modulus depends on the elastic property of composition materials, the gravity of aggregate, the bond strength of binder, the usage and quantity of admixture, curing and measuring method, etc. Accordingly, the aim of this study, by manufacturing concrete of practical high strength range(600~ 1000kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) with the specific cement and mineral admixtures, is to compare elastic modulus with the existing equations and also to estimate elastic property of use materials. As a result, it could be confirmed that the existing equations which were proposed by the ACI 363, CEB-FIP Code, and New-RC have a tendency to the overestimation in general. However, it could be confirmed that the KCI-96 and Norwegian NS 3473 equations are closed to measuring results, and that the elastic modulus property have a different tendency due to types of cements.

  • A study is made on the characterization of damage tolerance by spherical indentation in hardly coated layer structure with modest elastic modulus mismatch. A hard silicon nitride is prepared for the coating material and silicon nitride with 5wt% of boron nitride composites for underlayer. Hot pressing to eliminate the effect of interface delamination during the fracture makes strong interfacial bonding. The elastic modulus mismatch between the layers is not only large enough to suppress the surface crack initiation from the coating layer but sufficiently small to prevent the initiation of radial crack from the interface. The strength degradation of the layer structure after sphere contact indentation does not significantly occur, while the degradation of silicon nitride-boron nitride composite is critical at a high load and high number of contacts.

  • There are several types of compressors which are appropriate for hydrogen gas station. Metal diaphragm type of hydrogen compressor is the one of them, a use in which satisfies the requirements of maintaining gas purity and producing high pressure over 700 bar. The objective of this study is to investigate an characteristics of compression as bulk modulus of oil varies. Three cases of bulk modulus ranging from $2{\times}10^9$, $4.52{\times}10^9$ and $7{\times}10^9$ were studied through FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) analysis. Gas pressure, oil pressure and deflection degree of diaphragm were analysed during a certain period of compression process. Highest pressure and deflection were found in the condition of high bulk modulus of $7{\times}10^9$.

  • Computer-aided high frequency ultrasonic is applied to aluminum oxide(85w%, 94w%, 96w%, and 99w%) MOR(modulus of rupture) samples to evaluate mechanical properties such as density variation, pore content, elastic modulus, shear modulus, and poisson's ratio. Ultrasonic wave velocity and attenuation measurement techniques were used as an evaluator of such properties. Pulse-echo C-Scan images with different fate setting method using 50MHz center frequency 1 inch focal length transducer allows evaluation of density variation and pore content. Elastic modulus calculated with the relation of density and ultrasonic velocity. It shows good reliability as compared with resonance method. Sintered density variation of $0.025g/cm^{3}$, that is 0.6% of theoretical density in $Al_{2}O_{3}$ samples can be observed by ultrasonic velocity measurement. Attenuation measurement method qualitatively agree with 4-point fracture testing result concerning of porosity content.
