In this paper, we have designed and fabricated high conversion gain Q-band active sub-harmonic mixers for a receiver of millimeter wave wireless communication systems. The fabricated active sub-harmonic mixer uses 2nd harmonic signals of a low local oscillator (LO) frequency. The fabricated mixer was successfully integrated by using $0.1{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors (PHEMTs) and coplanar waveguide (CPW) structures. From the measurement, it shows that maximum conversion gain of 4.8 dB has obtained at a RF frequency of 40 GHz for 10 dBm LO power of 17.5 GHz. Conversion gain from the fabricated sub-harmonic mixer is one of the best reported thus far. And a phase noise of the 2nd harmonic was obtained -90.23 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. The active sub-harmonic mixer also ensure a high degree of isolations, which are -35.8 dB from LO-to-IF and -40.5 dB from LO-to-RF, respectively, at a LO frequency of 17.5 GHz.

Even though the modulating signal frequency of the light is too high to detect directly, the signal can be extracted by frequency conversion at the same time as the detection by means of the non-linearity of the APD. An analysis is presented for super-high-speed optical demodulation by an APD with electronic mixing. A normalized gain is defined to evaluate the performance of the frequency conversion demodulation. The nonlinear effect of the internal capacitance was included in the small signal circuit analysis. We showed theoretically and experimentally that the normalized gain is dependent on the down converted difference frequency component. In the experiment, the down converted different frequency outputs became larger than the directly detected original signal for the applied local signal of 20㏈m.

In this paper, a direct down conversion LNA/Mixer has been designed and tested for 900Mhz UHF RFID application. The designed circuit has been implemented in 0.18um CMOS technology with 3.3V operation. In this work, a common gate input architecture has been used to cope with the higher input self jamming level. This LNA/Mixer is designed to support two operating modes of high gain mode and low gain mode according to the input jamming levels. The measured results show that the input referred P1dBs are 4dBm of high gain mode and 11dBm of low gain mode, and the conversion gains are 12dB and 3dB in high and low gain mode respectively The power consumptions are 60mW for high gain mode and 79mW for low gain mode. The noise figures are 16dB and 20dB in high gain mode and low gain mode respectively.

The use of high-voltage gain converters is essential for distributed power generation systems with renewable energy sources, such as fuel and solar cells, due to their low-voltage characteristics. In this study, a novel high-voltage gain non-isolated buck boost converter topology is proposed to cope with the need of a high-voltage conversion ratio without the transformer for the renewable energy sources. Given that the proposed topology utilizes the cascode structure, the voltage gain and the efficiency are higher than those of other conventional non-isolated converters. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed topology, the operation principle is presented, and the steady-state characteristics are analyzed in detail. The validity of the proposed converter is verified by experiments with a 400 W prototype converter.

In this paper, In this paper, we consider a dynamic range in the frequency converter to obtain a high conversion gain and linearity while operating area proposed to broaden the design. Super-heterodyne RF Front-End style was applied to the active mixer stage, GaAs devices were used. Circuit design easy and simple forms benefit circuit is constructed in the drain mixer, passive mixer with the operating area were compared and analyzed. The simulation results of the conversion gain of 2.4dB and 0.2dBm about a gain-compression point, and showed the dynamic range of 71.9dB, when compared with passive mixers, dynamic range of approximately 6dB improvement was identified. Measurements of an approximately 2dB conversion gain and-1.0dBm of the gain-compression point, and confirmed that the active area of 71.1dB. When compared with passive mixers, dynamic range of is reduced by approximately 8dB has been improved.

Utilizing a standard 130-nm CMOS process, a RF frontend is designed at 24 GHz for automotive collision avoidance radar application. Single IF direct conversion receiver (DCR) architecture is adopted to achieve high integration level and to alleviate the DCR problem. The proposed frontend is composed of a two-stage LNA and downconversion mixers. To save power consumption, and to enhance gain and linearity, stacked NMOS-PMOS $g_m$-boosting technique is employed in the design of LNA as the first stage. The switch transistors in the mixing stage are biased in subthreshold region to achieve low power consumption. The single balanced mixer is designed in PMOS transistors and is also realized based on the well-known folded architecture to increase voltage headroom. This frontend circuit features enhancement in gain, linearity, and power dissipation. The proposed circuit showed a maximum conversion gain of 19.6 dB and noise figure of 3 dB at the operation frequency. It also showed input and output return losses of less than -10 dB within bandwidth. Furthermore, the port-to-port isolation illustrated excellent characteristic between two ports. This frontend showed the third-order input intercept point (IIP3) of 3 dBm for the whole circuit with power dissipation of 6.5 mW from a 1.5 V supply.

We designed and fabricated a low local oscillation (LO) power V-band CPW mixer module using a CPW-to-waveguide transition technology for the application of millimeter-wave wireless communication systems. The mixer was designed using a unique gate mixing architecture to achieve simultaneously a low LO input power, a high conversion gain, and good LO-RF isolation characteristics. The fabricated mixer exhibited a high conversion gain of 2 dB at a low LO power of 0 dBm. For data transmission of the 60 ㎓ wireless LNA systems, we fabricated a CPW-to-waveguide converter module of WR-15 type and mounted the fabricated mixer in the converter module. The fabricated V-band mixer exhibited a higher conversion gain and a lower LO input power than other reported V-band mixers.

In this paper, we have presented millimeter-wave high conversion gain quadruple subharmonic mixers adopting the cascode harmonic generator The subharmonic mixers were successfully integrated by using 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ GaAs pseudomorphic HEMTs(PHEMTs) and coplanar waveguide(CPW) structures. Measured output of 1st, 2nd and 4th harmonics of the fabricated cascode 4th harmonic generator are -21.42 dBm, -32.65 dBm and -13.45 dBm, respectively, for an input power of 10 dBm at 14.5 GHz. We showed that the highest conversion gain of 3.4 dB has obtained thus far at a LO power of 13 dBm from the fabricated subharmonic mixers. The millimeter-wave subharmonic mixer also ensure a high degree of isolation showing -53.6 dB in the LO-to-IF and -46.2 dB in the LO-to-RF, respectively, at a frequency of 14.5 GHz. The high conversion gain achieved in this work is the first report among the millimeter-wave subharmonic mixers.

This paper presents a X-band doppler radar with high conversion gain using a self-oscillating-mixer(SOM) that oscillation and frequency mixing is realized at the same time. To improve phase noise of the SOM oscillator, a ${\lambda}/2$ slotted square patch resonator(SSPR) was proposed, which shows high Q-factor of 175.4 and the 50 % reduced circuit area compared to the conventional resonator. To implement the low power system, low biasing voltage of 1.7 V was supplied. To enhance the conversion gain of the SOM, bias circuit is configured near the pinch-off region of transistor, and the conversion gain was optimized. The output power of the proposed SOM was -3.16 dBm at 10.65 GHz. A high conversion gain of 9.48 dB was obtained whereas DC Power consumption is relatively low about 7.65 mW. The phase noise is -90.91 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. The figure-of-merit(FOM) of the proposed SOM was measured as -181.8 dBc/Hz, which is supplier to other SOMs by more than about 7 dB.
