  • This paper presents the results of numerical simulation of wind environment and wind coefficient around super high-rise building. The analysis of aerodynamic response due to wind-induced forces and wind effect to surrounding buildings is important to high-rise building. This paper simulates the wind force to the high-rise building and wind flow pattern around the high-rise building, and shows the usability of CFD analysis to design process of high-rise building. A Navier-Stokes-Solver (FLUENT) with Quick spatial discretization scheme and RNG $\kappa-\epsilon$ turbulence model has been applied to the computation of the three dimensional turbulent flow.

  • These days, the super high-rise buildings construction plans are increased in Korea. But the stack effect in the super high-rise building interrupts the smoke control system's operation because of pressure difference, so it is more dangerous than the general building when firing. Therefore it needs to study about the pressure difference in the super high-rise buildings. We research the smoke control influence factor in the super high-rise building. Reflecting the influence factor, the simulation is practiced the case by case.

  • Recently, high-strength concrete used for shortening the construction time of high-rise building construction, Concrete pumping technology is emerging as the core technology of high-rise buildings. In this paper, we have started to study the use of electromagnetic field as a method to increase the efficiency of the lubricating layer between the inside of the pipe and concrete, which has been established as the most important factor determining the pumping performance. The pumping performance improvement effect of concrete strength was verified and basic research was carried out to utilize it as a method to increase the efficiency of pumping in field application. In the related work, the effect of the electromagnetic field was verified by conducting a mock-up performance evaluation (horizontal 300 m) of the pumping force by the concrete strength.

  • As building heights increase, so do these challenges in Korea. High-rise buildings present a variety of challenges to fire safety and protection. The fire protection technology in our country is still on a weak situation which is mainly due to the lack of concerns by the government, companies and citizen. This paper provides general guidance regarding fire-related property protection system for high-rise building performance based design. The importance of high-rise building in of the number of occupants, the value of property, and the a catastrophic loss would have on the community all warrant an increased level of protection and life safety. Because, We have to prepare a new spacial code and standard guidance for fire protection at the stage of the high-rise building design.

  • Apartment design in residential Area is restricted by building distance limit code. Building distance limit decreases gradually to the 0.8H(height), and residential area has 250% site area ratio by building code, so site using has become efficient. In this study, examine the relationship between present building distance limit and right of daylighting environment by computer simulation. As well, high-rise residential officetel and multipurpose residential building becomes increase in commercial non-residential area. In the domestic, residential type multipurpose building made at the business area or central business area has 400∼800% site area ratio by building code. However, at a dweller's point of view, there are much lacks of environmental consideration to provide suitable daylighting environment. And, POE: Post Occupancy Evaluation is not completed yet. In this study, however, progress architectural environment prediction, basis by right of daylighting, and examine the possibility of daylighting by architectural distance limit code in residental area and by high-rise, high-density residential building in non-residental downtown area.

  • High rise office buildings represent one of the most energy-intensive architectural typologies. The growth of urban population necessitates sustainable high rise towers that lessen environmental impacts and energy consumption. Among various sustainable strategies, the integrated design is long known to be an important process that has great impact on building's sustainability. The framework for this paper is based on the case study of integrated towers that are located in different climate zones. The paper specifically addresses to what extent climate conditions influence the design of a high rise building and what kinds of the climate integrated design has been implemented. Qualitative case studies were carried out using published data and architectural drawing set. The technical work presented in the paper is based on computer simulation that examines the insolation analysis using hourly recorded weather data. The analysis results revealed that the site and building envelope integration and the site and building service systems have shown the most frequently employed in the integrated towers through the implementation of renewable resource integration, high performance envelopes and sustainable building service systems. Internal comfort and further energy saving in the integrated towers are offered through an automatic building management system. Due to the dynamic climate conditions, integration of building systems requires a sophisticated approach to building sustainability.

  • In recent years, the performance requested for which an ultra-high rise buildings is diversified. Large spans are designed in order to gain wide workspace. Column positions are shifted in middle stories to provide space different from neighboring floors. Moreover, in the bottom layers of the building, it is becoming more important to expand freedom to plan flexibility such as creating publically opened wide atria that gives attractive free space. Earthquake-proof criteria is also changing not only human life protection deign but also a design that allows functional continuity. In order to achieve thee needs, as one of technology, we have developed ultra-high strength concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns of the box section that combine ultra-high strength concrete with specified strength of $150N/mm^2$ and ultra-high strength steel material with tensile strength of $780N/mm^2$. In this paper, the outline of development of an ultra-high strength CFT column is reported. Also, the structural design of the ultra-high-rise building using the CFT columns is reported.

  • This paper summarizes the structural concept and design of the "Nakanoshima Festival Tower West" in Osaka, Japan, which is 200m high and has a super-high damping system. Its superstructure is mainly composed of a central core and outer tube frames. It has a bottom truss structure at the boundary between the low-rise and mid-rise sections of the building, where the column arrangement is changed. Besides, the high-rise section of the building has a neck truss structure. These truss structures smoothly transfer the axial forces of the columns and reduce the flexural deformations induced by horizontal loads. Oil dampers with extremely high damping capacity are installed in the rigid walls named the "Big Wall Frames" of the low-rise section. Moreover, many braces and damping devices are well arranged in the center core of each story. The damping effects of these devices ensure that all structural members are remain within the elastic range and that story drifts are within 1/150 in large earthquakes. This super-high damping structure in the low-rise section is named the "Damping Layer". The whole structural system is named the "Super Damping Structure". The whole structural systems enhance the building's safety, comfort and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) under large earthquakes.

  • Today 55 percent of the population in the world lives in urban areas which is expected to increase to 68 percent by the year 2050. In the cities, high-rise buildings as symbols of the modern cityscape are dominating the skylines, but the data to demonstrate their embodied energy and environmental impacts are scarce, compared to low- or mid-rise buildings. Reducing the embodied energy and environmental impacts of buildings is critical as about 42 percent of primary energy use and 39 percent of the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from the building sector. However, it is an overlooked area in embodied energy and environmental impacts of high-rise buildings. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a widely used tool to quantify the embodied energy and environmental impacts of the building sector. LCA combined with Building Information Modeling (BIM) can simplify data acquisition of the building as well as provide both tools with feedback. Several studies recognize that the integration of BIM and LCA can simplify data acquisition of the building as well as provide tools with feedback. This article provides an overview of literature on BIM-based of embodied energy and environmental impacts of high-rise buildings. It also compares with different LCA methodologies. Finally, major strategies to reduce embodied energy and environmental impacts of high-rise buildings, research limitations and trends in the field are covered.
