  • Tritium extraction from radioactively contaminated cement mortar samples was performed using heating and liquid scintillation counting methods. Tritiated water molecules (HTO) can be present in contaminated water along with water molecules (H2O). Water is one of the primary constituents of cement mortar dough. Therefore, if tritium is present in cement mortar, the buildings and structures using this cement mortar would be contaminated by tritium. The radioactivity level of the materials in the environment exposed to tritium contamination should be determined for their disposal in accordance with the criteria of low-level radioactive waste disposal facility. For our experiments, the cement mortar samples were heated at different temperature conditions using a high-temperature combustion furnace, and the extracted tritium was collected into a 0.1 M nitric acid solution, which was then mixed with a liquid scintillator to be analyzed in a liquid scintillation counter (LSC). The tritium extraction rate from the cement mortar sample was calculated to be 90.91% and 98.54% corresponding to 9 h of heating at temperatures of 200 ℃ and 400 ℃, respectively. The tritium extraction rate was close to 100% at 400 ℃, although the bulk of cement mortar sample was contaminated by tritium.

  • In this research, we evaluate the performance for preventing frost damage at early age of mortar using variable cement and self-heating binder. Purpose of final research is preventing freezing and thawing by making the compressive strength 5MPa in 3days below zero temperature without heat curing. We compare the compressive strength of mortar and concrete using variable cements and self-heating binder in low temperature.

  • High-purity waste CNTs were mixed into cement mortar to manufacture heat-generating concrete that can use low voltage power, and carbon fiber and waste cathode materials were also used improve the conductivity of the mortar. The waste CNTs were analyzed to have a high concentration of multi-walled CNTs, and substituted liquid type waste CNTs were used during mortar mixing in order to increase dispersibility. The temperature change of the mortar with CNT was evaluated when using electric power below DC 24 V in order to utilize a small self-generation facility such as small solar power module when the mortar heats up and to minimize electromagnetic waves. When liquid-type waste CNTs were applied and a voltage of DC 24 V was introduced, it rose to 60 ℃ in a 200 × 100 × 50 mm mortar block specimen. The field applicability of self heating mortar with waste CNT was sufficient and also the amount of change in heat energy in mortar with liquid type waste CNT, carbon fiber and waste cathode materials is more effective compared to it of other variables.

  • Korea residential housing generally use wet floor heating system 'Ondol' which consist of insulation cushioning, lightweight foamed concrete, hot water pipe and mortar on top of reinforced concrete slab. Wet floor heating system's installation process is too complicate and difficult to supervise field for continuing assurance quality. Also, this method has a huge impact on the progress of construction because it take a long time to cure finishing mortar and lightweight foamed concrete. Therefore, it is considered a disturbance factor of reduction of construction duration for enhancing competitiveness. In this study, we conducted an experiment about the radiant heat performance and temperature difference on upper panel of rolled dry floor heating systems which is jointly developed by Kolon global and Sumisho Metalex for remodeling housing, studio apartment and the urban-life housing.

  • This study is to investigate the temperature history over time of the cement mortar to confirm the bubble sheet insulation effect using the heat generat sheet. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the heating effect was 6℃ higher on average than other types of sheets when the heating sheet is attached on the bottom of the double layered bubble sheet. For future research, it is planned to verify the heating performance by using the heating sheet under the same environmental conditions as the heating performance will be verified.

  • As the building is becomes bigger and larger, it can lead to big damage in case of fire. Also, tunnel, machine room and underground joint are spaces that can cause high temperature fire above 1,350℃ in case of fire. Therefore, a refractory material is need that can be withstand in high temperatures for long time. One side, the composition of oyster shell is CaCO3 of 90% or more. It is expected that it will be possible to use it as a high calcium natural material which is the material of the refractory board. According to, Study on bending, compressive strength of mortar according to temperature and heating time change using oyster shell as aggregate the most commonly occurring particle sizes form 2.5mm to 5mm.

  • In this study, we compared a plain mortar with the CAS-system shrinkage compensation mortar for Ondol that is Korean traditional heating system. The Ondol mortar is necessary to have properties as non-crack, fine flatness and stability for thermal changes. especially, mortar'crack prevention is to be most important property in Ondol mortar. To develope the stable material on the crack-prevention, we used to calcium-sulfo-aluminate(CSA)system in shrinkage compensation mortar. And so, we confirmed the effects of calcium-sulfo-aluminate(CSA) system for mortar's physical properties such as setting time, compressive strength and expansion ratio for crack prevention. The initial and final setting time of the CSA mortar is faster than plain mortar about 2hours. And, Compressive strength increased about 20% that plain mortar. The crack length per unit area, plain mortar is 0.426∼0.481m/m2. The Results of apartment construction field test, the shrinkage compensation mortar is excellent about the crack-reduce effect.

  • The temperature rise of the mortars while are being irradiated by ultrasonic waves and immersed in a liquid medium, are measured. The mixing ratios of sand to cement are varied for the different mortars. The results of the experiment are as follows, 1. The temperature rise of the mortar is decreased as themixing ration (S/C) is increased. 2. Thd temperature rise of the specimen is increased as its length is increased. 3. The surface conditions, either smooth or rough, may not have much influence on the temperature rise of the mortar. 4. The initial slope of temperature rise may not have much effect of the viscosity of liquid. The results, describes above, appear well coincide with the theory that the temperature rise is attributed mainly to the absorption heating. Since the absorption heating of the mortars varies with the mixing ratios of sand to cement, the strength of them would be estimated by means of irradiation of ultrasonic waves on the specimen.
