The purpose of this study is to analyze the curing effect of heating cable for concreting in cold weather. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the temperature history of concrete structures cured with embedded heating cables. Results are as follows : In comparison with the non-heating case, applying of heating cable resulted in the rise of temperature in the range of $10^{\circ}C$. In order to get successful results, the optimal pitch length for the embedded heating cables ranged from 20cm to 25cm. When working with the existing curing methods, applying this heating cable would be more effective in concrete curing. Finally, a formula and process was suggested to predict the Internal temperature history of concrete structures under the various curing conditions.
The objective of this study was to experimentally investigate the effect of heat curing methods on the temperature history and strength development of slab concrete exposed to $-10^{\circ}C$. The goal was to determine proper heat curing methods for the protection of nuclear power plant structures against early-age frost damage under adverse (cold) conditions. Two types of methods were studied: heat insulation alone and in combination with a heating cable. For heat curing with heat insulation alone, either sawdust or a double layer bubble sheet (2-BS) was applied. For curing with a combination of heat insulation and a heating cable, an embedded heating cable was used with either a sawdust cover, a 2-BS cover, or a quadruple layer bubble sheet (4-BS) cover. Seven different slab specimens with dimensions of $1200{\times}600{\times}200$ mm and a design strength of 27 MPa were fabricated and cured at $-10^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. The application of sawdust and 2-BS allowed the concrete temperature to fall below $0^{\circ}C$ within 40 h after exposure to $-10^{\circ}C$, and then, the temperature dropped to $-10^{\circ}C$ and remained there for 7 d owing to insufficient thermal resistance. However, the combination of a heating cable plus sawdust or 2-BS maintained the concrete temperature around $5^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. Moreover, the combination of the heating cable and 4-BS maintained the concrete temperature around $10^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. This was due to the continuous heat supply from the heating cable and the prevention of heat loss by the 4-BS. For maturity development, which is an index of early-age frost damage, the application of heat insulation materials alone did not allow the concrete to meet the minimum maturity required to protect against early-age frost damage after 7 d, owing to poor thermal resistance. However, the combination of the heating cable and the heat insulating materials allowed the concrete to attain the minimum maturity level after just 3 d. In the case of strength development, the heat insulation materials alone were insufficient to achieve the minimum 7-d strength required to prevent early-age frost damage. However, the combination of a heating cable and heat insulating materials met both the minimum 7-d strength and the 28-d design strength owing to the heat supply and thermal resistance. Therefore, it is believed that by combining a heating cable and 4-BS, concrete exposed to $-10^{\circ}C$ can be effectively protected from early-age frost damage and can attain the required 28-d compressive strength.

Pressure heating rollers with temperature control were mounted to a flat cable laminating machine (FCLM). Pressure heating rollers should be heated up to the setting temperature $(175^{\circ}C)$ and kept on to producing good quality flexible flat cables (FFC). Existing Pressure heating rollers took more than 70minutes to the setting temperature and did not keep on the setting temperature in production. Temperature controller, electric power controller, material and diameter of rollers and heat capacities were changed to improve the temperature control of the pressure heat rollers for better production of the FFC. Thus, the reaching time to the setting temperature (RT), temperature stability time (TST) and temperature hunting (TH) were measured and compared with the existing pressure rollers case. The RT of A roller was shortened by 50minutes, and B roller was shortened by 15minutes. The TST of A roller was shortened by 13minutes, and B roller was shortened by 15minutes. The THs of both A and B rollers were settled up to ${\pm}5^{\circ}C$. Finally, the productivity of the FCLM and the quality of the FFC were increased.
Extending the lifetime of a nuclear power plant [(hereafter referred to simply as NPP)] is one of the most important concerns in the global nuclear industry. Cables are one of the long-life items that have not been considered for replacement during the design life of a NPP. To extend the cable life beyond the design life, it is first necessary to prove that the design life is too conservative compared with actual aging. Condition monitoring is useful means of evaluating the aging condition of cable. In order to simulate natural aging in a nuclear power plant. a study on accelerated aging must first be conducted. In this paper, evaluations of mechanical aging degradation for a neoprene cable jacket were performed after accelerated aging under tcontinuous and intermittent heating conditions. Contrary to general expectations, intermittent heating to the neoprene cable jacket showed low aging degradation, 50% break-elongation, and 60% indenter modulus, compared with continuous heating. With a plant maintenance period of 1 month after every 12 or 18 months operation, we can easily deduce that the life time of the cable jacket of neoprene can be extended much longer than extimated through the general EQ test. which adopts continuous accelerated aging for determining cable life. Therefore, a systematic approach that considers the actual environment conditions of the nuclear power plant is required for determining cable life.
A self-regulating heating cable is an electrical heating element by flowing an electric current between parallel conductors filled with an extruded semi-conductive polymer. Self-regulating heating cables are used mainly for frost protection purposes because the construction is convenient and the price is low. On the other hand, structural problems with imperfections of the insulation can cause a fire despite their usefulness. This paper deduced a direct method to derive the cause by investigating the scene of a fire due to a self-regulating heating cable and analyzed the basic problem using fault tree analysis. In this paper, the actual fire scene was a cold storage warehouse, and fire investigation was conducted. After investigating the fire scene and fault tree analysis, the cause of the fire could be attributed to dielectric breakdown of the self-regulating heating cable. This paper could be utilized in the fire safety activities and similar fire investigations.
There have been a number of major fatal fire accidents in Korea recently. The number of fires in 2017 were 44,178, which is not only increasing number of fires but also increasing in casualties. Particularly, the fire at Jecheon Sports Center, which suffered many casualties, is expected to have a huge impact. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, but heat waves on the ceiling have also been pointed out. As such, the copper heating waves, which are used as a preventive measure against damage of pipes due to freezing of pipes, etc., always have a fire hazard. To determine the possibility of a flame-resistant heated fire, a positive electric cable product was used to artificially ignite and analyze the results. In case of a short circuit, the external covering of the positive electric cable is damaged, but not short circuit unless the heating material surrounding the wire is damaged. Due to the characteristics of heating cable for preventing copper waves, the chances of insulation becoming more severe due to moisture and temperature changes are higher than normal wires. If the internal heating system is carbonized by insulating deterioration without damage to the outer coating, it is likely to cause trekking, to form a winding loop in the heating materials, and to cause short circuit in the heated materials. For the positive temperature line, if the middle is shorted, the current continues to flow to the short circuit unless the breaker disconnects. Consequently, a heated fire that does not cut off the power immediately may leave multiple marks or cuts.

This study examines the physical characteristics of self-regulating heating cables caused by increased temperature and fire risk due to local degradation. A thermo hygrostat system, a convection dryer, a digital multimeter (Agilent 34465 A), NI DAQ, and the LabVIEW program were used to assess the physical properties in response to temperature fluctuations. As the temperature increases, the resistance of the self-regulating heating cable increases; however, when the critical point is exceeded, the resistance sharply decreases. A problem arises when the resistance value cannot return to its original state even though the temperature is lowered to the initial state. Moreover, when the ambient temperature rises while power is applied, the resistance value initially increases, and the flowing current decreases, maintaining a constant state. However, when the critical temperature is exceeded, the flowing current increases because of a rapid decrease in the resistance value, progressing to ignition. When the resistance value decreases because of the deterioration of one local area, the total resistance value becomes less than the initial resistance value. Therefore, the flowing current increases and an ignition problem occurs at one location where deterioration occurs. Despite the sustained flames and arcs resulting from the changes in the overall physical properties of the self-regulating heating cable and resistance variations due to local decline, the fire continued as the flowing current was lower than the operating current of the circuit breaker, failing to cut the power. In the case of self-regulating heating cables and heating wires, which are the leading causes of fires in winter, efforts are needed to ensure the need for periodic maintenance and the use of KS-certified products.
The electric snow melting and deicing system by electric heating cable which is adopted in this study is a part of road facilities to keep surface temperature of the road higher than freezing point of water for melting the snow or ice accumulated on it. The electric heating cables are buried under paved road at a certain depth and a certain pitch and operated automatically and manually. Design theory, amount of heating, and installation standard vary according to economic situation, weather condition, and installation place. A main purpose of this study is figuring out the appropriate range of required heat capacity and installation depth and pitches for solving snowdrifts and freezing problems with minimum electric power consumption. This study was performed under the ambient air temperature($-2^{\circ}C$, $-5^{\circ}C$), the pitches of the electric heating cables (200 mm, 300 mm), heating value ($250\;W/m^2$, $300\;W/m^2$, $350\;W/m^2$).

Although anti-freezing heating cable has been widely installed in most residential boiler pipe, there were excessive energy consumption and fire risk due to inadequate temperature control. In this paper, a new energy saving fire risk-free controller was developed by using microprocessing operation which include detection of not only boiler room temperature but also pipe surface one. Its actual effect has been verified to save more than a half of the energy consumption comparing to conventional controller through temperature and humidity chamber experiment.
