Relationships among Body Image, Self-esteem and Health Promotion Behavior in Mastectomy Patients (유방절제술 환자의 신체상, 자아존중감과 건강증진행위의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to fine out the relationships among body image, self-esteem and health promotion behavior in mastectomy patients. Method: Data were obtained by self -reported questionnaires from 218 patients undergone mastectomy from September 1 to October 15, 2005. And data were analyzed using SPSS/PC WIN 12.0 program. For the statistical analysis of the date, frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test and Pearson's correlation coefficients were used. Result: The mean scores of the body image, self-esteem, and health promotion of the subjects were $41{\pm}7.40$ (range of scale : 17 to 68), $22.22{\pm}4.95$ range of scale : 10 to 40), and $130.45{\pm}23.99$ range of scale : 50 to 200), respectively. There were significant differences with the score of body image by the work type (F=4.018, p= .008), a number of child (F=3.069, p= .029), and participation with self help group program (t=68.177, p= .001). There were significant differences with the score of self-esteem by the type of religion (F=4.546, p= .002), work type (F=4.488, p= .004), post operation period (F=2.814, p= .026), and participation with self help group program (t=12.901, p= .001). There were significant differences with the score of the health promotion behavior by the type of religion (F=3.066, p= .018), economic state (F=11.765, p= .001), level of education (F=6.285, p= .001), operation site (F=.368, p=.027), family history (t=6.557, p= .011), and hope of breast reconstruction (t=7.025, p=.009). Relationship between body image and self-esteem showed moderate positive correlation (r=0.631, p= .001). The relationship between body image and health promotion behavior showed slightly positive correlation (r=0.257, p= .001). The relationship between self-esteem and health promotion behavior showed moderate positive correlation (r=0.431, p=.001). Conclusion: For the increasement of the health promotion behavior, it is needed to improve body image and self-esteem in mastectomy patients. And, It is needed to encourage to participate with self help group program in mastectomy patients.

School Bullying Victimization, Health Status and Stress Coping Behavior of Middle School Students (중학생의 학교따돌림 피해경험과 건강상태, 스트레스 대처행동)

  • Objectives: The main purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing school bullying victimization of middle school students in relation to social support, self-esteem, stress coping behavior, and health status. Methods: The questionnaire survey was carried out on a convenience sample of 441 middle school students. The data analysis procedure included frequency, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, and multiple logistic regression. Results: It was found that 18% of the subjects were bullied by other students. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the factors such as sex(OR=2.35, p=.006), aggressive coping behavior(OR=1.18, p=.028), and health status(OR=1.04, p=.002) were significant affecting factors. Conclusions: The findings suggest that to prevent middle school students' bullying victimization, it is necessary to design intervention programs that considering their health status and stress coping behavior.

The influence of community oral hygiene promotion program on oral hygiene practice behavior in children (지역사회 구강보건프로그램이 아동의 구강건강관리 행태 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of community oral hygiene program on oral hygiene practice behavior in children. Methods: Oral hygiene promotion program was performed in 23 community child centers in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggido. The study analyzed the effect of community oral hygiene promotion programs on the oral hygiene practice behavior in children from September to December, 2014. The trained dental hygienists in 23 public health centers and dental hygiene students participated in the oral hygiene promotion program for oral health examination and education for the children. The contents of the program was standardized and instructed to the team members. The individual improvement in children oral hygiene practice was assessed using PHP(patient hygiene performance) index score. Data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: After the program, children who stopped eating confectioneries and those eating once a day increased to 32.12% and 14.24%, respectively. Those eating more than four times a day were still high(32.44%), but it was a lower rate than before the program (p<0.001). The rate of toothbrushing of more than 2 to 3 times a day was 82.75% and it was higher than before the education (p<0.001). The knowledge level of children increased from 18.83% to 66.30%. The oral hygiene practice performance in children was highly improved. Conclusions: The four months duration of oral hygiene program remarkably improved the oral hygiene practice in the children. So the community health centers and welfare centers must cooperate and improve the children oral health promotion by developing the oral health promotion program.

Influencing Factors on the Health Promotion Behaviors of North Korean Refugee Adolescent in a Specialization School (일개 특성화 학교 북한이탈 청소년의 건강증진행위에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to find out health behaviors and health promotion behaviors and their influencing factors among North Korean refugee adolescents. Methods: All the 139 students registered in a specialization school which provided regular school curriculum for the North Korean refugee adolescents participated in the survey. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Current smoking, alcohol drinking and experience of depression in North Korean refugee adolescents were more prevalent than those of South Korean adolescents. Self-esteem, self-efficacy and social support were identified as factors affecting health promotion behavior. Conclusions: Health promotion program is needed to reduce the North Korean refugee adolescents' depression and to stop smoking and drinking. In the process of creating these programs, of creating program, we should consider self-esteem, self-efficacy and social support in the educational method to make these programs be effective.

Health Behavior and Utilization of University Health Clinics (대학생의 건강생활 실천 및 대학보건실 활용 수준에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to analyze health behavior and utilization of university health clinics by college and university students. Methods: There are 376 colleges and universities in Korea as of May 2007. Of them 243 (69.6%) run health clinics in their campuses. Twenty of them were selected and 1,754 students were surveyed by using self reporting questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS ver. 12.0. Results: Out of 1,754 students 56.5% were in good health. Of the subjects 15.6% were cigarette smokers, 30% were non drinkers, 20.8% exercise regularly, 53.7% sleep for seven to eight hours a day, 48% had proper body weight (BMI) 20-25) and 20% had physical examination in the past two years. The scores of health practices were higher in male students than female students (P 0.05). Perception rates of university clinics were higher in female students than male students. (P 0.01). Many students have intention to use the clinics (P 0.01). On health promotion program 35.2% of the subjects used clinics for emergency service, 32.8% participated in drinking control program, 32.8% in smoking cessation program, 20.4% in immunization program and 19.2% in regular health screening program. Conclusions: Comprehensive data for health behavior and need of health promotion services by the students should be collected regularly in order to meet the needs of students and faculty members in higher education institutes. The university authorities should pay more attention on the activities of health clinics in order to promote health of the students.

The Effects of Excercise Program on Cognitive Perception, Health Promotion Activity and Life Satisfaction of Elderly in Senior Citizen's Center (보건소의 노인정 운동프로그램 실시에 따른 노인의 인지지각요인, 건강증진행위 및 생활만족도 비교)

  • This study was designed to investigate effects on cognitive perception. health promotion activity and life satisfaction of elderly. The participants for this study were 292 in senior citizen's center in S-city. The participants were categorized by two groups. one have taken exercise regularly. at least more than one a week for 6 months, the other have not. The measurement tools were the Perceived Benefit Scale developed by Walker, et al. and translated by Kim. Hee Ja(1994), the Life Satisfaction Index developed by Neugarten. etc. and translated by Lee. Ga Ok(1994) and Self efficacy Scale developed by Kim. Hee Ja (1994). The data were collected by personal interviews. which were taken from January 11 to 16. 1999, and analyzed by SAS 6.12. The major results of this study were as follows 1) Scores of self-efficacy were higher regular exercise group than irregular group. 2) Regular exercise group have taken exercise such as jogging, climbing and the other hands irregular group have not. 3) When the participants were categorized by smoking, other health promotion behavior (weight control. diet), both scores of life satisfaction index were higher smoking group than non-smoking group, other health promotion behavior than non-health promotion behavior. 4) There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of perceived benefit, life satisfaction, From these findings, regular exercise program will be able to provide elderly with opportunity to change positively their lives in cognitive perception. health promotion activity.

The oral health knowledge and behavior of elementary school students in Jeonju (전주시 초등학생의 구강보건지식 및 행동)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to stress the necessity of the oral health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to provide some information on the development of oral health education programs. Methods : The subjects in this study were 570 students who were in their fourth, fifth and sixth grade elementary schools in the city of Jeonju that were equipped with school dental clinics. A survey was conducted to find out their oral health knowledge and behavior. Results : As for oral health knowledge, 47.5% that was the largest group had an excellent knowledge of oral health. In regard to preference for the content of oral health education, the elementary school students had the most preference for toothbrushing education, and there was a definitely positive relationship between concern for oral health and actual oral health care, since those who were more interested in oral health took better care of their oral health. Conclusions : The oral health knowledge and behavior of the elementary school students were satisfactory, and the development and implementation of quality oral health education programs are required to encourage their oral health promotion behavior.

The Effect of Major Factors in General Health Promotion Behavior Upon Oral Health Promotion Behavior in Some Area Collegian (일부 지역 대학생들의 전신건강증진행위의 주요 요인들이 구강건강증진행위에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the major variables against oral health promotion behaviors for collegian in Ulsan area. The measured variables for the oral promotion behaviors presently are previous oral health experience, stress by study, subjective oral health, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, self-esteem, self-efficacy, social support, oral health LOC(locus of control), life satisfaction, emotion and intension based on the Pender's 3th health model as a theoretical model in general health promotion behavior. Total data 330 were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 program and path analysis method was used to verify the model's fitness. Results for this study were as follows: Firstly, the fitness degrees of research model was ${\chi}^2=39.06$(P>.05), GFI = .982, AGFI = .948, NFI = .967, NNFI = .982, RMSR = .028, so it was apparent that this model was well fitted. Secondly, 27 out of 39 total paths were turned out correspond with the hypothetical model which accepted as direct effect. And two paths had statistical significance in direct. Thirdly, the most positive influences on the oral health promotion behaviors presently were previous oral health experience, subjective oral health, social support, self-efficacy, intension, oral health LOC. And the most negative influences was perceived barrier. So, results from this model we could contribute to identify theirs oral health behavior patterns for collegian in Ulsan.

Effects of Web-based Preconception Health Promotion Program for Couples about to be Married (예비부부 대상 웹 기반 수태 전 건강증진 프로그램 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a Web-based preconception health promotion program to improve preconception health promotion awareness, perceived benefits, perceived self-efficacy and health behavior, and to reduce perceived barriers in couples about to be married. Methods: Participants were assigned to the experimental group (n=26 couples) or control group (n=25 couples). This program was comprised of a six hour Web-based lecture series which was given to the experimental group over a four week period. Results: Results for the two groups showed: 1) a significant difference in preconception health promotion awareness in men (self-perception: z=-3.62, p <.001 content: F=18.49, p <.001) and in women (self-perception: z=-2.89, p =.004 content F=36.93, p <.001), 2) a significant difference in perceived benefits in men (z=-3.09, p =.002), and in women (F=6.38, p =.004), 3) a significant difference in perceived barriers in men (F=3.64, p =.030), and in women (F=11.36, p <.001), 4) a significant difference in perceived self-efficacy in men (F=12.16, p <.001), but no significant difference in women (F=1.93, p =.166), 5) a significant difference in health promoting behavior in men (F=16.31, p <.001), and in women (F=10.99, p =.001). Conclusion: The results of this study show that the program is an effective nursing intervention in couples about to be married. Therefore, this program can be useful in encouraging health-promoting behavior for couples about to be married.

  • Nowadays a movement of public health awareness has just begun through the recent health promotion law in Korea. Implementation of the health promotion requires a pluralistic process involving public and private participants from many sectors and backgrounds. The most important thing in promoting health is the appropriate role of government in fostering personal behavior change. ‘Health promotion’ has been a highly fashionable term; however it has been used in many different ways unfortunately, often without any clarification of meaning. It is because the meaning of health promotion is diverse and broad. Therefore this article focuses on the categorization of the diverse meaning of health promotion. Additionally. it puts stress on the flexibility of health promotion.
