  • Recently luminous egress guide-lines are introduced for the fire safety of residents in the multi-use buildings such as Gosiwon. Little literature, however, on the quantitative and qualitative estimation for the egress performance of the luminous egress guide-lines can be found. This study carried out experimental investigations to evaluate the egress performance of the existing egress guide-lights and new luminous egress guide-lines. The results showed that both luminous egress guide-lines and egress guide-light satisfied the basic performance of KFI requirements. Under the 7 % smoke transmittance, however, luminous egress guide-lines showed 3 times longer visibility and less evacuation time than egress guide-lights. The evacuation density and smoke transmittance have significant effect on the evacuation time increase without the luminous egress guide-lines, however little effect with the installation.

  • In this paper, frequency modulated(FM) reflectometry is proposed to measure group velocity of microwave transmission line Various microwave transmission lines such as periodically loaded conducting posts in a waveguide and nonradiative dielectric(NRD) guide are adopted to measure their group velocity The result compared with that from network analyzer shows good agreement, indicating the validity of our measurement method.

  • To improve the current waveform of diode rectifiers, we propose a new operating principle for the voltage-doubler diode rectifiers. In the conventional voltage-doubler rectifier circuit, relatively large capacitors are used to boost the output voltage, while the proposed circuit uses smaller ones and a small reactor not to boost the output voltage but improve the input current waveform. A circuit design method is shown by experimentation and confirmed simulation. The experimental results of the proposed diode rectifier satisfies the harmonic guide lines. A high input power factor of 97(%) and an efficiency of 98[%] are also obtained. The new rectifier with no controlled switches meet the harmonic guide lines, resulting in a simple, reliable and low-cost at-to dc converters in comparison with the boost-type current-improving circuits. This paper proposes a nonlinear impedance circuit composed by diodes and inductors or capacitors. This circuit needs no control circuits and switches, and the impedance value is changed by the polarity of current or voltage. And this paper presents one of these applications to improve the input current of capacitor input diode rectifiers. The rectifier using the nonlinear impedance circuit is constructed with four diodes and four capacitors in addition to the conventional rectifiers, that is, it has eight diodes and five capacitors, including a DC link capacitor. It makes harmonic components of the input current reduction and the power factor improvement. Half pulse-width modulated (HPWM) inverter was explained compared with conventional pulse width modulated(PWM) inverter. Proposed HPWM inverter eliminated dead-time by lowering switching loss and holding over-shooting.

  • This paper describes a camera-based position measurement system for automatic tracking control of a rubber Tired Gantry Crane (RTGC). An automatic tracking control of RTGC depends on the ability to measure its displacement and angle from a guide line that the RTGC has to follow. The measurement system proposed in this paper is composed of a camera and a PC that are mounted on the right upper between front and rear tires of the RTGC's side. The measurement accuracy of the system is affected by disturbances such as cracks and stains of the guide line, shadows, and halation from the light fluctuation. To overcome the disturbances, both side edges of the guide line are detected as two straight lines from an input image taken by the camera, and parameters of the straight lines are determined by using Hough transform. The displacement and angle of the RTGC from the guide line can be obtained from these parameters with the robustness against the disturbances. From the experiments with the disturbances, we found the accurate displacement and the angle from the guide line that have the standard deviations of 0.95 pixels and 0.22 degrees, respectively.

  • The goal of our research is to develop a smart context-aware guide system that provides a smart and personalized guide services based on implicit awareness of context. As a context-aware guide application, we have developed a location-aware smart bus guide system for Seoul based on PDA and GPS. It guides users to the nearby bus stops and provides users with information about the bus lines at the bus stops.

  • Landmark matching is one of an important algorithm for navigation of satellite images. This paper proposes a fast landmark matching algorithm using a MGLI (Moving Guide-Line Image). For searching the matched point between the landmark chip and a part of image, correlation matrix is used generally, but the full-sized correlation matrix has a drawback requiring plenty of time for matching point calculation. MGLI includes thick lines for fast calculation of correlation matrix. In the MGLI, width of the thick lines should be determined by satellite position changes and navigation error range. For the fast landmark matching, the MGLI provides guided line for a landmark chip we want to match, so that the proposed method should reduce candidate areas for correlation matrix calculation. This paper will show how much time is reduced in the proposed fast landmark matching algorithm compared to general ones.

  • In this paper, hardware design methods for segway type 2-wheeled mobile robots are presented. Basically five guide lines are offered to build robots properly for the purpose of experiments; motor selection, battery selection, MCU selection, motor placement, and construction of body. The robots built with these five guide lines will give the best test environment to gain meaningful results in experiments as a precise and exact test-bed.

  • This paper introduces about the structure guide lines of pocket tunneling Field effect transistor. As the pocket length or thickness increase, on-current $I_{on}$ increases. As the pocket thickness is less than 3nm, subthreshold swing (SS) increase. As the dielectric constants of the gate insulator increases, the performance of on-current and subthreshold swing enhances.
