This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of elimatic elements and yearly variations of productivity in potato. In addition, correlation coefficients among yield and yield components were estimated. The data of yield and yield components were investigated for 9 years from 1987 to 1995. The meteorological data what gathered at the Goheung Weather Station for the same period of crop growing season were used to find out the relationships between climatic elements and crop productivity. Yearly variation of the daily minimum temperature in March and April were large with coefficients of variation (C.V.) of 126.0%,368.0%, respectively, but the variation of the daily mean and maximum temperature in May and June were relative small. Stem length and number of stem show more C.V. of 9.3% ,14.3%, respectively, but the variation of the yield was relative small with 3.7%. Correlation coefficients between the amount of precipitation in April and yield, yield and daily mean temperature in June were negatively significant at the level of 5, 1%, respectively. Correlation coefficients between the growth habits and yield are positively significant at the level of 5, 1%, respectively. Simple linear regression equations by the least square method are estimated for stem length $(Y_1)$ and the precipitation in April(X) as $Y_1=82.47-0.11{\times}(R_2=0.3959)$, and for yield$(Y_2)$ and the precipitation in April(X) as $Y_2=2003.61-0.94{\times}(R_2=0.5418)$.

This study describes conditions for plant regeneration from protoplasts-derived from embryogenic callus of satsuma mandarin. Plants were generated via somatic embryogenesis. Protoplasts isolated directly from nucellar callus induced from immature ovule of satsuma mandarin cv. Okitsu (Citrus unshiu Marc.) were cultured in 0.6M $BH_3$ medium. Cell division and plating efficiency were affected by protoplast culture method. The liquid over solid method was the most effective for formation of microcalli. Most of microcalli grew rapidly and transferred onto embryoid formation medium. Optimum embryoid formation medium was MT medium containing 1.5 g/L malt extract, 0.146 M sucrose and the medium for plantlet regeneration was MS medium containing 0.09M sucrose, 1.0 mg/L $GA_3$. No differences were noticed in growth habits and leaf characters such as shape, thickness, and colour between protoplast-derived plants and nucellar seedlings. This plant regeneration system from protoplasts-derived from embryogenic callus provides an alternative way for producing new scion and rootstock cultivar from citrus species which can not be crossed.
The increasing rate of obesity in school aged children has become a conspicuous social phenomenon in Korea. This has been linked to greater economic growth, increasingly westernized dietary habits, and a consumer driven society. Given that obesity can lead to social exclusion or unfavorable attention by other students in a school setting, the design of plus-size garments have become important for effective appearance management skills. This research aimed to establish a somatotype database for obese school boys, aged 10 to 12, in order to develop a sizing system for plus-size upper garments. In order to measure somatotype of average and obese school boys, five categories were recorded; height, obesity, length of trunk, thickness of neck and chest. For obese boys, subcutaneous fat thickness and position of B.P/shoulder point factors were recorded. Obesity factor was subdivided into overall and specific ones, and while the deviation of obese body types was severe compared to the average type. Obese body type showed significantly higher measurements in width, girth, thickness. This is linked to the fact that the frequency ratio of obesity increases with age. Stature and chest were chosen as control dimensions for boys' wear. As crosstabulation of stature(5cm interval) and chest girth(2, 3 and 4cm), and stature(5cm interval)/chest girth(3cm interval) sizing system showed, the most effective cover ratio and adaptability to the data distribution $25{\sim}75$ quartile. Based on the findings, 10 sizes were formulated for average body type, while 18 sizes were formulated for obese type, whose size cover ratios were 48% and 62.9%, respectively. The primary ranges of stature were $145cm{\sim}150cm$, while those of chest girth were $79{\sim}82cm$. Each size was declared as "chest-somatotype{A(average)/O(obesity)-stature". This study proposed a plus-size upper garment sizing systems for obese boys, accompanied with reference measurements for suit, casual wear and underwear. The finding showed that the two systems were totally separate and not overlapping, meaning that plus-size sizing system is essential for obese school boys. The obesity type system had more size and wider range specs.
This study was carried out to investigate the nutritional education status and the recognition of the importance of elementary school dietitians (N=183) in the Gyeongnam area. The results are summarized as follows. All subjects took part in nutritional education program, but the educational methods were passive, as in the case of “home correspondence”(80.8%) and “bulletin board poster”(16.4%), and the education frequency was very low as in “one time/month”(90.2%). The subjects thought “as an independent subject”(41.5%) and “as a related subjects”(35.1%) were suitable teaching venues for the nutritional education. They were very low in individual counseling (4.5%) for school children because of “lack of opportunity”(42.2%) and “heavy work load”(24.1%). However, most of the subjects wished that nutritional counseling could offered in the future (95.5%). The parents' experience of nutritional education was also low (34.3%). Information sources for nutritional education were mainly the “internet”(53.1%) and “re-educational materials” (25.0%). The available instructional materials included “printed materials”(96.7%), “exhibition bulletin materials” (70.3%) and “electronic materials”(46.4%). The preferred education materials were “exhibitionㆍbulletin materials”(32.2%), “printed materials”(29.2%), and “electronic materials”(27.7%). However, materials they wished to purchase were “electronic materials”(54.5%) and “cubic materials”(26.0%). These results show a difference between the preferred materials and the possessed materials. Most school dietitians (98.4%) recognized the necessity of nutritional education with respect to “good table manners”(42.0%), “correction of food prejudices”(30.3%), and “proper nutrition for growth”(21.0%) Although they had a great interest in nutritional education, they had difficulty in cutting their teaming into practice because of “heavy work load”(30.9%), “lack of a systematic curriculum”(25.2%), and “lack of a educational opportunity”(22.8%). Ninety five percent of subjects wished to have nutrition education taught as an independent subject. They pointed out “kindergarten”(60.0%) and “lower grades in elementary school”(33.9%) as the optimal starting times for nutritional education and “school dietitians”(91.3%) as suitable teachers for these programs. The required topics chosen by the subjects for nutritional education for children were “proper eating habits”(54.2%) and “nutritional problem”(31.5%). The dietitians thought “food prejudices”(44.7%), “rat too much processed and instant foods”(36.5%), and “obesity”(11.8%) were the most common nutritional problems among elementary school children. These results suggest the necessity of solving the nutritional problems in children by developing a nutritional education program. Along with this program, if dietitian assisted programs for parents were developed, the effects of nutritional education could definitely be increased.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Diet plays an important role in growth and development of children. However, dietary intakes of children living in either rural or urban areas can be influenced by household income. This cross-sectional study examined energy, nutrient and food group intakes of 749 urban children (1-10 years old) by household income status. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Children's dietary intakes were obtained using food recall and record for two days. Diet adequacy was assessed based on recommended intakes of energy and nutrients and food group servings. RESULTS: For toddlers, all nutrients except dietary fiber (5.5 g) exceeded recommended intakes. Among older children (preschoolers and school children), calcium (548 mg, 435 mg) and dietary fiber (7.4 g, 9.4 g) did not meet recommendations while percentage of energy from total fat and saturated fats exceeded 30% and 10%, respectively. The mean sodium intakes of preschoolers (1,684 mg) and school children (2,000 mg) were relatively high. Toddlers in all income groups had similar energy and nutrient intakes and percentages meeting the recommended intakes. However, low income older children had lowest intakes of energy (P < 0.05) and most nutrients (P < 0.05) and highest proportions that did not meet recommended energy and nutrient intakes. For all food groups, except milk and dairy products, all age groups had mean intakes below the recommended servings. Compared to middle and high income groups, low income preschoolers had the lowest mean intake of fruits (0.07 serving), meat/poultry (0.78 serving) and milk/dairy products (1.14 serving) while low income toddlers and school children had the least mean intake of fruits (0.09 serving) and milk/dairy products (0.54 serving), respectively. CONCLUSION: Low socioeconomic status, as indicated by low household income, could limit access to adequate diets, particularly for older children. Parents and caregivers may need dietary guidance to ensure adequate quantity and quality of home food supply and foster healthy eating habits in children.
Purpose: In this study, nutrient intake during the adolescent period is a critical time for the development of the vision. Therefore we analyzed the relationship between the obesity index and the refractive power. Methods: We used the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010 document. The obesity index is classified as Broca index (less than 80.0% is low weight, 80 to 89.9% is underweight, 90.0 to 109.9% is normal, overweight is from 110.0 to 119.9%, 120.0% or more is obesity) and body mass index (BMI)(less than 18.5 is underweight, 18.6~22.9 is normal, 23.0 to 24.9 is overweight, and obesity is higher than 25.0). We analyzed correlation with the body mass index and refractive error in adolescent. Results: As shown in the statistics, according to Broca index and body mass index (BMI), the refractive power and the obesity index showed a statistically significant correlation in the ages 15 to 18. Under weight subjects are ingested 43.84% dietary fiber, vitamin C 56.55%, 35.20% iron, 31.84% of, and 38.03% potassium less than the average food intake by the standard group. Conclusions: Moderate weight with a broad variety of taking nutrition and good eating habits seems to have an effect to the good growth and the good vision.
Transparent vinyl-mulching cultivation plots heavy-fertilized (6-14-20 kg $10a^{-1}\; of\; N-P_2O_5-K_2O)$ in growing peanuts produced 315-344Kg $10a^{-1}$ of quality kernels through improvement of the low temperature conditions of underground environment during the early growing stage and kernel-filling stage. The yields of which were 82-99 percent higher than that of conventional cultivation plot. The vinyl-mulching cultivation techniques accelerated emergence, young seedling growth, flowering, pod bearing and kernel filling of peanuts in Korea.

Since founded in 1959, it's well known that the KAPD has pioneered in the researches and clinical aspects of pediatric dentistry in Korea. It's official journal, the Journal of the KAPD, was first published in 1974 and has pressed total 956 articles up to now(March, 2001). In this study, all the articles pressed in this journal have been surveyed, focussing in their main theme, their chronological and thematic distribution. The thematic classification was made with the reference of the previous studies and renowned textbooks in pediatric dentistry. And we obtained the results as follows: 1. The researches on dental materials and dental equipments have shown continuous increase throughout the period. 2. The researches on dental caries, caries prevention and systemic disorders have occupied relatively high proportion consistently. 3. The researches on malocclusions and cysts/minor surgery have shown increasing tendency in the second period, but are decreasing in the third period. 4. The researches on craniofacial growth/development, tooth development/eruption, developmental disorders of teeth, management of eruption space have shown decreasing tendency. 5. The researches on behavioral research, oral habits, occlusion of primary-mixed dentition have shown very low proportion, reaching no more than 1% throughout the period.
Chronic diseases are increasing nowadays as daily habits changed due to economic growth. Among chronic diseases, heart cerebrovascular disease is one of the major causes of death in South Korea that accounts for approximately 20% of mortality. Tests to measure anomaly of the heart is ECG tests, which measures and analyzes the electrical heart activity. Any mistakes in lead attachment location critically affects ECG testings, and statistical facts showed that only 2.8% of the nurses properly located leads to patients. As a solution, this paper proposes a system based on a projection-based augmented reality technology to generate X-ray images to the patient's chest to point out exact attachment locations of ECG leads. Evaluation comparison results showed a 2.6 cm difference between the conventional system and the proposed system. ECG test results also showed significant signal differences between the systems in leads V1, V2, and V3. The ECG measured accurately by the proposed system would help greatly in patient management and clinical decisions of clinicians.

Anterior open bite is one in which the teeth in the anterior portion of the maxilla and mandible are vertically apart and lack the overlapping necessary for the incisive function when the mandible is in closed position. Anterior open bite is a result of the interaction of many different etiologic factors including thumb and finger sucking, lip and tongue habits, airway obstruction, skeletal growth abnormalities and its tendency may appear with any type of skeletal patterns, such as Class I, II or III malocclusion types. Though the treatment methods for anterior open bite are various, the conventional FR-4, designed by Rolf Fr$\"{a}$nkel, is known to be effective in treating open bite cases with Class I or II skeletal patterns. It is due to that an incidence of skeletal Class II is high in the Occidentals, and open bite is accompanied by these malocclusion type in many cases. However, an incidence of skeletal Class III is high in the Orientals, and open bite is sometimes accompanied by skeletal Class III in many cases. Although the use of the conventional FR-4 was effective in the treatment of open bite, skeletal Class III would be worsened. So, a modified FR-4(placing the labial bow in the lower, the labial pads in the upper) was designed for the treatment of patients showing skeletal Class III and open bite.
