This study divided consumer food-related lifestyles into five types: health-oriented, convenience-oriented, safety-oriented, economics-oriented, and taste-oriented. According to this grouping, we separated the lifestyles into low-interest, safety and economics-oriented, taste-oriented, and high-interest. The results showed that the safety and economics-oriented group was the largest, whereas the taste-oriented group was the smallest. The results also showed that Korean food consumer behavior and satisfaction differed significantly among the groups, and that the high-interest food-related life group exhibited the highest satisfaction. This study is significant because it segmented the local Korean food market, applied food-related lifestyles, and examined submarket characteristics.
Background : The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of unplanned endotracheal extubation and to identify the influencing factor of unplanned extubation in ICUs for providing baseline data in developing prevention strategies and administrative standards. the medical records and hospital information system. In order to analyze factors related to unplanned extubation, the subjects of this study were divided by unplanned extubation group and planned extubation group and were matched by its sex, age, and disease groups in a ratio of one to two. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$- test, t-test, Fisher's exact test, and logistic regression analysis with SPSSWIN 10.0 program. Result : 1) Forty-seven(4.99%) of 942 intubated patients experienced unplanned extubation 65 times during the twelve-month period. Thirtyfour( 72.34%) of 47 unplanned extubated patients required reintubation, whereas thirteen patients(27.66%) did not. 2) About half of unplanned extubation(46.8%) occurred during the night shift. 3) As for the nursing activity, respiratory nursing activity score(P=.0.06) and total nursing activity score(P=.011) showed statistically significant differences between unplanned extubation group and planned extubation group. 4) As for the patient status, unplanned extubation group showed more lower consciousness level(P=.000), more irritable or agitated behavior(P=.000), and had more applied physical restraints(P=.000) than planned extubation group. 5) As for the intubation related variables, unplanned extubation group revealed more intubated with respiratory failure(P=.000), more dependent on mechanical ventilation(P=.015) than planned extubation group. 6) Factors affecting unplanned extubations in intensive care unit patients were irritable or agitated behavior(odds ratio=13.757), night shift(odds ratio=7.166), and mechanical ventilation(odds ratio=6.257) from conditional logistic regression analysis. Conclusion : The most affecting factor of unplanned extubation was agitated or irritable behavior. Therefore the results of this study could be helpful to ICU nurses for meticulous care, decision making, timely intervention, and development of intervention strategies for preventing unplanned extubation.

This study was performed to understand recognition and behaviors related to sodium intake of Korean adults. The data were collected from subjects including 267 male and 285 female adults in nationwide and compared by gender and by age. We found that the male group showed significantly higher smoking, alcohol drinking, and exercise does the female group. The older group (40 to 59 years) revealed significantly higher exercise and lower alcohol drinking; however general disease and hypertension prevalence, diet therapy practice, and meditation for hypertension were higher. Recognizing sodium levels of foods containing high-sodium, and sodium-nutriture labels when purchasing foods, and knowing differences between salt and sodium of the male group or recognizing sodium levels of foods containing high-sodium of the older group was worse than the other. Among the 32 food behaviors, only 12 were identified as significantly correlated to sodium intake levels including behaviors of preferring Chinese and Japanese foods to Western foods, preferring kimchi to raw vegetables, completely consuming soup, stew, noodle liquid, liking of dried fish and salted mackerel, frequent eat-outs or delivered foods, and so forth. There were significant differences between gender or age groups in terms of sodium intake-increasing behaviors; the male group showed higher behaviors of preferring salty taste and eating all broths. And the older group revealed higher behavior of adding table salt as well as the previous two, however, the younger group showed more behaviors of eat-outs or delivered foods and not the liquid of kimchi.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of school-based preventive education on smoking-related knowledge, attitude and practice of health behaviors among elementary school children at a rural province in Korea. Methods: The subjects were 134 among the 4th -6th graders (exp. = 67, control = 67) from two schools at J province. Education program was conducted in 5-sessions for experimental group. And study instrument for smoking-related knowledge was developed 2-point 15-items (a = .82), for attitude was 3-point 15-items (a = .79), and for practice of health behavior was also 3-point 30-items (a = .86). Data were collected by interview from May 28th to July 10th 2003 and analyzed with the frequency, percentage, x2-test and t-test using SPSS-PC program, Results: The group of having smoking experiences was 14.2% and 52.2% of the subject had smoking family members. The first motive of smoking was curiosity in 78.9% and 36.8% of them started smoking before the third grade. School-based preventive education of smoking were affirmatively effective in smoking-related knowledge (t = 4.14, p = .001), smoking-related attitude (t = 3.654, p = .001), practice of health behavior, on the other hand, was not changed significantly by the education. Conclusion: Based on these findings, the authors recommend that school-based smoking prevention education should be started from lower graders in regular curricular basis and health promotion program for primary school children should be emphasized to lead healthy behavior in collaboration with public and private health sectors in community.
Purpose: This study was performed to examine predictors of allied health science students' exercise behavior using Pender's Health Promotion Model. Method: The subjects were 203 university students majoring in nursing, emergency medical service, and exercise prescription. The hypothetical model was based on the HPM(Pender, 1996). Exogenous variables of the model were exercise habit and role belief. Endogenous variables were exercise-related affect, exercise self-efficacy, exercise barrier, exercise intention, and exercise behavior. The data were analyzed by SAS PC program and LISREL 8.12 program. Result: The degree of exercise behavior was low(mean 1.86, range 1~4). The overall fit of the model to the data was acceptable. Exercise habit, exercise self-efficacy and exercise-related affect were significant predictors of exercise intention and exercise behavior. Conclusion: This study shows the necessity of the program to increase the level of exercise participation of university students majoring in allied health science. The model constructed in this study is applicable to explain exercise behavior of university students majoring in allied health science, and suggests that we should focus on exercise habit, exercise self-efficacy and exercise-related affect to increase the level of exercise behavior of this group.

Purpose: This study was performed to determine the effect of drinking prevention program on the levels of drinking related knowledge, attitude, drinking refusal self-efficacy and behavior of vocational high school girls. Methods: Pre-post test design. The subject was used for a group of high school girls. The data were collected on May and September, 2006 and June, 2007 and analyzed using paired t-test. Results: The drinking-related knowledge score after one year was significantly higher than that of pretest (t=-14.02, p=.001) and the drinking-related attitude score was lower (t=2.85, p=.006). The drinking refusal self-efficacy and the drinking behavior measured as number of drinking events, amount of alcohol and number of heavy drinking events were not significantly different between pretest and post test after one year. Conclusion: Drinking prevention program should be given to increase the drinking refusal self-efficacy and decrease or prevent the drinking behavior of high school girls every semester at least.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and profile distinct subgroups of patients with hypertension based on knowledge, attitudes, and behavior regarding their medication and health lifestyle. Method: A descriptive-exploratory research design was employed. Two hundred and twenty-three patients with hypertension using W Public Health Center were randomly recruited on the basis of being over 30 of age. Upon the receipt of their written consents, direct interview with a structured questionnaire were conducted by a public health nurse. Descriptive statistics and $X^2-test$ were utilized. Results: Three subgroups were identified. Group I members had a low score on all three factors including knowledge, attitudes and behavior related to medication and health lifestyle. Group II members had a low score on one or two of the factors. Group III members had a high score on all three factors. The three subgroups were significantly associated with education level, economic status, non-smoking and non-drinking. Conclusions: Further research should be conducted to validate these findings and test tailored nursing intervention for patient compliance.
Purpose: In this study an analysis was done of participants who were educated using a dental health program as compared to a control group who only used a booklet on the subject. The participants were elementary school children and the education focused on dental health knowledge, behavior, health belief, and self-efficacy. Methods: Sixth grade students from two different schools in D-city were assigned to an experimental group which was educated using a dental health program over five weeks and a control group which was educated with a dental care booklet. Results: The experimental group showed significant increases in knowledge, behavior, sensitivity, severity, benefit, belief, and self-efficacy indicating that the program was effective, but there were no significant differences in self-efficacy, sensitivity, severity, importance, or disability between the two groups. Significant differences between the groups were found for knowledge, behavior, and benefits regarding dental health. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that a dental health program for elementary school students is effective in increasing their knowledge and behavior regarding dental health but the lack of significant differences in several of the variables in this study may be related to the education provided to the control group using a booklet.
Individual lifestyle and eating habits have changed rapidly due to the evolution of society. Especially, climate change caused by industrialization has influenced society, with the result that today's consumers perceive sustainability to be an important value. The purposes of this study were to segment consumers on the basis of their food-related lifestyle and to explore climate-friendly food consumption behavior by considering factors such as moral intensity, propensity for disgust with meat as well as consumer characteristics. The results of this study were as follows: first, consumers were segmented into three groups(high involvement, low involvement, convenience oriented). Consumers in the high involvement group presented a higher level of moral intensity and climate-friendly food consumption behavior than the other groups. Furthermore, factors influencing the selection of climate-friendly food were found to differ according to the type of consumer. Consumers in the high involvement group were found to be significantly influenced by age, concentration of effect, the morality of eating meat and meat texture, while consumers in the low involvement were found to be significantly influenced by social consensus and the morality of eating meat. Finally, consumers in the convenience oriented group for food life were found to be significantly influenced by age, harm perception, and the morality of eating meat.
Purpose: Diabetic foot ulcers are significant problems in diabetes mellitus and often result in lower extremity amputation. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a self-care management program on Korean patient's self-efficacy, self-care behavior, size of the wound, and wound related pain. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study of pre-test and post-test design in a non-equivalent control group. The intervention strategies of the self-care management program consisted of individual intervention (education, practice and demonstration), computer animation, and face-to-face counseling. There were thirty seven patients, and 20 were assigned to the experimental group while the other 17 were assigned to the control group. The experimental group was given a self-care management program. The control group received information on diabetic mellitus care by means of a leaflet. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, a chi-square test, an independent t-test, and a Mann-Whitney test. Results: There were significant differences in self-care behavior and wound related pain. Conclusion: A Self-care program is an effective way to increase patient's self-care ability. This program is highly applicable to diabetic foot ulcer patients in various settings.
