In our country, most region is composed of mountains and people have recently been displeased with the construction of the substations in their vicinity so the substations newly built are mainly constructed with GIS system in the small area that has high soil resistivity near mountain. Therefore, nowadays the design of substation grounding system has been difficult, and the additional considerations are needed. UC substation was also difficult to design the grounding system because of so small substation area and high soil resistivity. This paper shows the examples of reducing the grounding system resistance reasonably by using several ways. Designing the ground grid electrode in the access road, deep electric earth probe, changing the substation soil with the law level resistivity soil. This report deals with the computer simulation of the grounding system resistance about the ways illustrated above.
Most nuclear power plants now utilize solid grounded low voltage systems. For safety and reliability reasons, the low voltage (LV) high resistance grounding (HRG) system is also increasingly used in the pulp and paper, petroleum and chemical, and semiconductor industries. Fault detection is easiest and fastest with a solidly grounded system. However, a solidly grounded system has many limitations such as severe fault damage, poor reliability on essential circuits, and electrical noise caused by the high magnitude of ground fault currents. This paper will briefly address the strengths and weaknesses of LV grounding systems. An example of a low voltage HRG system in the LV system of a nuclear power plant will be presented. The HRG system is highly recommended for LV systems of nuclear power plants if sufficient considerations are provided to prevent nuisance tripping of ground fault relays and to avoid the deterioration of system reliability.
This study performed simulation tests to prevent induced lightning that occurs to a 22.9 kV-Y distribution line. A simulated distribution line reduced to 1/50 of an actual distribution line was installed to measure the induced voltage according to the change in grounding resistance. It was found that the induced voltage increased as the grounding resistance increased but that the range of its increase was small. This study examined the reliability of the proposed lightning preventive distribution line using the Minitab program (Minitab 17). When a grounding resistance of $300{\Omega}$ was maintained for each electric pole, the Anderson Darling (AD) was 0.410, the smallest, and the P value was analyzed to be 0.323, verifying that the reliability and stability were excellent. Therefore, these results will be utilized as a basis for the substantiation of a lightning preventive distribution line before its installation.

A grounding electrode has the transient grounding impedance characteristics against lightning surges. So the performance of grounding electrodes should be evaluated as a grounding impedance as well as the ground resistance. The frequency-dependent grounding impedance is varied with the shape and size of grounding electrode and is divided into both inductive and capacitive behaviors. This paper presents a theoretical analysis for the grounding impedance determined by the size of grounding electrode using the distributed parameter circuit model. EMTP and Matlab programs were used in calculating the frequency-dependent grounding impedances of vertical grounding electrodes. It was found that the frequency-dependent grounding characteristics of vertical grounding electrodes are characterized by the distributed parameters which are changed in the dimension of grounding electrodes.

System grounding is applied to the neutral point of a power source to secure the from any abnormal voltage and/or grounding fault. System grounding, which is applied mainly in ships is an ungrounded and resistance grounded system. Vessels using the MV power system with 3.3kV, 6.6kV, and 11kV mainly adopt a high resistance grounding system among the resistance grounding systems. The ground fault accounts for 95% of all faults occurring in the electrical system and when a fault occurs, the line-to-ground voltage of the power system is increased excessively, which adversely affects the onboard insulation system. This study analyzed the variation characteristics of the line-to-ground voltage neutral point according to the degree of ground fault in a resistance ground system applied in vessels. For this purpose, the characteristics of the grounding system were first explained, and the modeling of the neutral point potential of the line-to-ground voltage of the resistance grounding system in the vessels was derived. Finally, this study examined how the line-to-ground voltage, line voltage, and neutral point change according to various variable environments through MATLAB simulations.

Footing Resistance of a 154 kV transmission towers in korea is commonly required to be less than 15 ohm to avoid lightning back-flashover accident. The periodic measurement of Footing Resistance is important to verify that the grounding performance of the towers has been maintained good. Towers are electrically connected in parallel with overhead grounding wire, therefore footing resistance of each tower will be measured after disconnecting the overhead ground wires from the towers. however, In this paper, three direct measurement methods of footing resistance are presented. There are very useful methods without disconnecting overhead ground wires from the tower under measurement. They are compared in KEPCO 154 kV transmission towers. The experimental results describe performances of them.
Seoul Metro and Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corp. have started installing screen doors at subway platforms to improve the environment of subways and prevent passengers' accidents since 2006. They are still installing screen doors at subway platforms and Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporations in other areas are also proceeding with installment of screen doors or making preparations for it. Grounding is necessary for installing PSD systems. In case that PSD grounding is connected with existing electrical equipment grounding system, it was decided to install separate grounding for safe operation of PSD system and passenger safety. However, it's very difficult to install new grounding at the subway station compound. A way to improve this condition is that we proceed with grounding by composing grounding station by carbon grounding rod. This paper will mainly deal with how to design and construct carbon ground rod, which has been applied to PSD system grounding since 2006, including its experimental examples. In this paper, ways to secure ground resistance below 5 ohms, which is resistance necessary for PSD grounding, and to compose grounding system were also discussed. Furthermore, a ground test to check the ability to fulfill a role of PSD grounding system was conducted. As a result of applying carbon grounding module, PSD system is being operated without any problem and the installment of PSD system will be continuously expanded in the future. It's also thought that a way to integrate grounding of each functional room which has been installed at the subway station compound and to arrange equipotential grounding should be reviewed and performed promptly.

Recently, there are many equipment of electricity, electronics, and communication which need to grounding in the building. When the electric current flows into a certain grounding system in the same building, the potential rise of other grounding system is possible to be affected by its potential rise. This potential interference was affected by the surface potential, it is deeply related whit the electrode shape. In this paper, basic formula is deduced on the basis of both electrodes surface potential of grounding electrode in a source of the potential interference and groundidng electrode which receive the potential interference. Therefore the degree of potential interference as multiple groundidng electrode can be verified the simulated results by means of the simple model in advance. This is for investigating the grounding resistance of grounding electrodes, the experiment was performed with model-scale of the grounding system and the scaled model grounding system was to this experiment using a water tank of a stainless steel-hemisphere shape. since mesh electrodes have been widely in the general building, we're tried to analyze that this water tank model and it's simulation as well.
This paper presents the surges response of the grounding systems using frequency domain electromagnetic field analysis software package. The frequency and time domain performance of a building grounding systems subjected to a lighting strike is described and discussed. The computed scalar potentials is presented graphically as a function of spatial coordinates. A double exponential lighting surge current is injected at one corner or the building grounding systems. Time-variant response of rod, mesh and kit grounding systems under impulse currents have been obtained. This paper deals with the results of studies on the time variation of ground resistance in three grounding systems.

In Korea, characterized in most cases by limited area or high earth resistivity, it is likely to design narrow distances between grounding conductors, with a view to keeping ground resistance and touch voltage below the safety margin values. A new grounding method is suggested, making use of double meshes, to lower touch voltage in a confined area, since it is difficult to lay the plugs under the ground with narrow gaps between them on a limited site. For the presentation of a new model, the suggested grounding system has been analyzed and studied in ground resistance, touch voltage and step voltage, using IEEE Std. 80 calculations and computer simulations.
