  • This paper proposes the Global Clipboard System and presents a preliminary study on it. The clipboard is a temporary storage used to copy and paste some contents between application programs in Windows Operating System. The proposed Global Clipboard is a contents delivery system that extends the concept of the existing local clipboard to Internet. The Global Clipboard System operates in two steps. An application user can upload selected contents to the Global Clipboard by typing consecutive keys of Ctrl-C and Ctrl-Shift-C easily. And other users can download and utilize the contents from the Global Clipboard by typing Ctrl-Shift-V and Ctrl-V keys consecutively. The proposed Global Clipboard can deal almost data like simple texts, screen capture images, files, and directories. In this paper, we developed a global clipboard server, a Windows application, and an Android application. We have conducted experiments about functions of the Global Clipboard and also compared delay times between 4 applications such as e-mail, Kakao, Google Drive, and the Global Clipboard. The results of the evaluation show that the time delay spending in sending and receiving contents is shortest when the Global Clipboard is used.

  • This study was aimed at investigating relationship between global health nursing competency and multicultural acceptance of nursing students. The subjects were 145 nursing students from a university, and data were collected from June 8 to 19, 2020. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and regression. The subjects' global health nursing competency was 2.81±1.11 points (four-point scale) and multicultural acceptance was 3.84±0.68 points (six-point scale). Global health nursing competency differed according to gender and degree of preparation as a global nurse, and multicultural acceptance differed according to gender, multicultural education experience, and degree of preparation as a global nurse. Global health nursing competency had a positive correlation with multicultural acceptance (r=.18, p=.027), and it was showed that multicultural acceptance affected global health nursing competency (B=.29, p=.027). To be prepared as a global nurse, it is necessary to enhance the global citizen insight about multicultural experiences.

  • XML view is proposed to integrate between XML data and heterogeneous data over distributed environment and global XML view is used to search distributed heterogeneous data. At this time, standard query language for user is XQuery and the method for processing global XQuery queries over distributed environment is one of the new research topics. One of the basic and simple methods to process distributed SQL queries is that generates local queries for processing a global query and constructs the result of the global query from the results of the local queries. However, the syntax of XQuery differs from SQL because the XQuery contains some special expressions like FOR clauses for querying to semi-structured data, of course, FOR clauses are not used in SQL. Therefore, there are some problems to adopt the method for processing global SQL queries for generating local XQuery queries. This paper defines some problems when generates local XQuery queries for processing global XQuery queries and proposes a method for generating local XQuery queries considered these problems. Also we implement and evaluate a Global XQuery Processor which uses our method.

  • Toward more accurate determination of the water cycle in association with climate variability and change as well as baseline data on the impacts of this variability on water resources, the Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period (CEOP) was launched on July 1,2001. The preliminary data period, EOP-1, was implemented from July to September in 2001. The first annual enhanced observing period, EOP-3, is going to start on October 1,2002. CEOP is seeking to achieve a database of common measurements from both in situ and satellite remote sensing, model output, and four-dimensional data analyses (4DDA; including global and regional reanalyses) for a specified period. In this context a number of carefully selected reference stations are linked closely with the existing network of observing sites involved in the GEWEX Continental Scale Experiments, which are distributed across the world. The initial step of CEOP is to develop a pilot global hydro-climatological dataset with global consistency under the climate variability that can be used to help validate satellite hydrology products and evaluate, develop and eventually predict water and energy cycle processes in global and regional models. Based on the dataset, we will address the studies on the inter-comparison and inter-connectivity of the monsoon systems and regional water and energy budget, and a path to down-scaling from the global climate to local water resources, as the second step.

  • The recent global financial crisis triggered by the sub-prime mortgage debacle in the United States hit hard most ASEAN countries that have just recovered from the unprecedented economic crisis ten years ago. This paper, using individual time-series and panel data from 1990 to 2009, intends to investigate and compare the impacts of the two aforementioned economic crises on trade in the four developing ASEAN countries that encompass Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. In doing so, the paper traces the behaviors of main macroeconomic variables before and after the crises on graphs, and then estimates classical export and import demand functions that include real exchange rate, home and foreign GDPs as explanatory variables. In the estimation functions, two dummy variables are added to consider the effects of the two economic crises separately. Individual country data analyses reveal that by and large the 1997 economic crisis seems hit those ASEAN countries' exports and imports harder than the recent global financial crisis. Surprisingly the recent financial crisis turns out more or less statistically insignificant for those countries' export and import performances. The fixed effect model estimation using panel data of those four ASEAN countries also shows that the 1997 economic crisis had affected exports and imports of those countries negatively while the recent global financial crisis was not statistically significant. These results indicate that overall the effect from the 1997 crisis was more devastating than that of the recent global crisis for those ASEAN countries.

  • The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study has been instrumental in guiding global health policy development since the early 1990s. The GBD 2010 project provided rich information about the key causes of mortality, disability-adjusted life years, and their associated risk factors in Japan and provided a unique opportunity to incorporate these data into health planning. As part of the latest update of this project, GBD 2013, the Japanese GBD collaborators plan to update and refine the available burden of disease data by incorporating sub-national estimates of the burden of disease at the prefectural level. These estimates will provide health planners and policy makers at both the national and prefectural level with new, more refined tools to adapt local public health initiatives to meet the health needs of local populations. Moreover, they will enable the Japanese health system to better respond to the unique challenges in their rapidly aging population and as a complex combination of non-communicable disease risk factors begin to dominate the policy agenda. Regional collaborations will enable nations to learn from the experiences of other nations that may be at different stages of the epidemiological transition and have different exposure profiles and associated health effects. Such analyses and improvements in the data collection systems will further improve the health of the Japanese, maintain Japan's excellent record of health equity, and provide a better understanding of the direction of health policy in the region.

  • In this paper, we propose the MDBMS(Multi-DataBase Management System) which integrates the LDBMSs(Local DataBase Systems) with heterogeneous environment into distributed system and provides global users with rapidly query process. For designing the MDBMS, we define the functions of components and design the interaction among them. In a point of view of the global view manager in components, we describe the following 3 cases; (1)the case which the results for the global query are all stored to the global view repository, (2)the case which no result exists in the global view repository, and (3)the case which the partial results we stored to the global view repository. By comparing above cases, we establish the functionalities of our MDBMS through the sequence diagram including the interlace of among objects and the method calling. Finally, we propose the model designed in the concrete by showing the executing procedures of each function using sample query on established functions mentioned above.

  • The modified Kling-Gupta efficiency fusion method to merge actual evapotranspiration was proposed and compared with the simple Taylor skill's score method using Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS), Global Land Evaporation Amsterdam Model (GLEAM), MODIS Global Evapotranspiration Project (MOD16), and the flux tower on three different land cover types over the Korean peninsula and China. In the results of the weights estimated from two actual evapotranspiration merging techniques (i.e., STS and KGF), the weights of reanalysis data (i.e, GLDAS and GLEAM) in cropland and grassland showed similar performance, while the results of weights are different according to the merging techniques in forest. Both two merging techniques showed better results than original dataset in grassland and forest. However, there were no improvement in cropland compared to the other land cover types. The results of the KGF method slightly improved compared to those of the STS in grassland and forest.

  • Purpose - This article will take the Korean manufacturing industry as an example to estimate Korea's global value chain status from the perspective of overall and sub-industry, hoping to provide a theoretical reference for Korean manufacturing to climb the global value chain. Design/methodology - Based on the WIOD data. The data is calculated by using MATLAB (2014a) coding. The data for 6 sectors are classified according to the International Standard Industrial Classification revision 3 (ISIC Rev. 3), the WIOD data are used to calculate and compare the position, participation and dynamics of the Korea, China and USA' manufacturing industry in the 1995-2016. Findings - The empirical results supported conclusions of the theoretical model. In the Korean GVC of electrical and optical sector, while stronger forward linkages than backward linkages to GVC are advantageous for an average advanced country, the benefits of downstream tasks are pronounced for non-advanced countries. And proved the correlation for an index to capture a country's upstream position or downstream position, it makes sense to compare that Korea's exports of intermediates in the same sector that are used by China and USA. Originality/value - The first is to re-examine the characteristics of South Korea's participation in global value chains under a more systematic and accurate theoretical framework, which provides a new empirical reference for related research; the second is to content covers of the manufacturing 6 sectors, so as to more completely describe the characteristics of Korean manufacturing's participation in global value chains; The value of this paper is providing empirical evidence of the effect of Korea's the GVC of manufacturing sectors. In the GVC of 6 sectors, first three have a higher position in the value chain and are in the upper middle and upper reaches of the GVC. The latter two have a low GVC position index, which has become the main sector that pulls down the overall position of Korea's manufacturing industry.
