Model-Based Pose Estimation for High-Precise Underwater Navigation Using Monocular Vision (단안 카메라를 이용한 수중 정밀 항법을 위한 모델 기반 포즈 추정)

  • In this study, a model-referenced underwater navigation algorithm is proposed for high-precise underwater navigation using monocular vision near underwater structures. The main idea of this navigation algorithm is that a 3D model-based pose estimation is combined with the inertial navigation using an extended Kalman filter (EKF). The spatial information obtained from the navigation algorithm is utilized for enabling the underwater robot to navigate near underwater structures whose geometric models are known a priori. For investigating the performance of the proposed approach the model-referenced navigation algorithm was applied to an underwater robot and a set of experiments was carried out in a water tank.

  • This study has established an appraisal standard to select VE subject when they evaluate of design VE by using of a qualify model in an early design step and has suggested an improvement method for importance's estimation method of an appraisal standard. An importance's estimation method is to arrangement of geometric average method using an AHP method to this study, When an evaluation of a quality model, we estimate an importance by establishing of an appraisal standard of economics, construction, security, environmental influence, maintenance, etc.

  • This paper presents a rotational motion estimation and correction technique for digital image stabilization. An equivalent rotation model is derived so as to accommodate a combined rotational and the translational motion. Thanks to this simplification, the suggested estimation algorithm can directly find the rotational center using geometric characteristic of local motion vectors instead of using searching method. And we also present recursive version of frame to reference algorithm(FRA) for the real time implementation. The proposed DIS system does not require time consuming parameter searching process, while showing comparatively good performance compared with the previous ones. To show the effectiveness of the DIS scheme, the algorithm has been implemented on the DSP based hardware system and experimental results are also discussed.

  • Purpose of this research is estimation of water depth by hyperspectral remote sensing in area that access of ship is difficult. This research used EO-l Hyperion satellite imagery. Atmospheric and geometric correction is executed. Compress of band used MNF transforms. Diffuse Attenuation Coefficient of target area is decided in imagery for water depth estimation. Determination of Emdmember in pixel is using Linear Spectral Unmixing techniques. Water depth estimated using this result.

  • Notion sickness is well known to be caused by long time exposure to the very low frequency motion in the multiple axes of human body Since the vestibular system for the perception of low frequency motion is located in the head, accurate measurement of 6 degree of freedom head motion is of great importance. In this study, the measurement system consisting of a safety helmet and 9 translational accelerometers was constructed for the estimation of 3 translational and 3 rotational motions of human head. Since estimation errors of 3 rotational components can be significantly magnified even by small offset of the sensitivity axis from the geometric center of an accelerometer, accurate measurement of sensitivity axis must be preceded. The method for accurate estimation of the offset was proposed, and the effect of offset on the estimation of angular acceleration was investigated.

  • Several reasons such as no free lunch theorem indicate that there is not a universal Feature selection (FS) technique that outperforms other ones. Moreover, some approaches such as using synthetic dataset, in presence of large number of FS techniques, are very tedious and time consuming task. In this study to tackle the issue of dependency of estimation accuracy on the selected FS technique, a methodology based on the heterogeneous ensemble is proposed. The performance of the major learning algorithms of neural network (i.e. the FFNN-BR, the FFNN-LM) in combination with the diverse FS techniques (i.e. the NCA, the F-test, the Kendall's tau, the Pearson, the Spearman, and the Relief) and different combination techniques of the heterogeneous ensemble (i.e. the Min, the Median, the Arithmetic mean, and the Geometric mean) are considered. The target parameters/transients of Bushehr nuclear power plant (BNPP) are examined as the case study. The results show that the Min combination technique gives the more accurate estimation. Therefore, if the number of FS techniques is m and the number of learning algorithms is n, by the heterogeneous ensemble, the search space for acceptable estimation of the target parameters may be reduced from n × m to n × 1. The proposed methodology gives a simple and practical approach for more reliable and more accurate estimation of the target parameters compared to the methods such as the use of synthetic dataset or trial and error methods.

  • Despite the significant progress in camera pose estimation and structure-from-motion reconstruction from unstructured images, methods that exploit a priori information on camera arrangements have been overlooked. Conventional state-of-the-art methods do not exploit the geometric structure to recover accurate camera poses from a set of patch images in an array for mosaic-based imaging that creates a wide field-of-view image by sewing together a collection of regular images. We propose a camera pose estimation framework that exploits the array-structured image settings in each incremental reconstruction step. It consists of the two-way registration, the 3D point outlier elimination and the bundle adjustment with a constraint term for consistent rotation vectors to reduce reprojection errors during optimization. We demonstrate that by using individual images' connected structures at different camera pose estimation steps, we can estimate camera poses more accurately from all structured mosaic-based image sets, including omnidirectional scenes.

  • This paper proposes a method for estimating the illuminant chromaticity using the distributions of the camera responses obtained by a CCD camera in a real-world scene. Illuminant estimation using a highlight method is based on the geometric relation between a body and its surface reflection. In general, the pixels in a highlight region are affected by an illuminant geometric difference, camera quantization errors, and the non-uniformity of the CCD sensor. As such, this leads to inaccurate results if an illuminant is estimated using the pixels of a CCD camera without any preprocessing. Accordingly, to solve this problem the proposed method analyzes the distribution of the CCD camera responses and selects pixels using the Mahalanobis distance in highlight regions. The use of the Mahalanobis distance based on the camera responses enables the adaptive selection of valid pixels among the pixels distributed in the highlight regions. Lines are then determined based on the selected pixels with r-g chromaticity coordinates using a principal component analysis(PCA). Thereafter, the illuminant chromaticity is estimated based on the intersection points of the lines. Experimental results using the proposed method demonstrated a reduced estimation error compared with the conventional method.

  • A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve plots the true positive rate of a classier against its false positive rate, both of which are accuracy measures of the classier. The ROC curve has several interesting geometrical properties, including concavity which is a necessary condition for a classier to be optimal. In this paper, we study the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator (NPMLE) of a concave ROC curve and its modification to reduce bias. We characterize the NPMLE as a solution to a geometric programming, a special type of a mathematical optimization problem. We find that the NPMLE is close to the convex hull of the empirical ROC curve and, thus, has smaller variance but positive bias at a given false positive rate. To reduce the bias, we propose a modification of the NPMLE which minimizes the $L_1$ distance from the empirical ROC curve. We numerically compare the finite sample performance of three estimators, the empirical ROC curve, the NMPLE, and the modified NPMLE. Finally, we apply the estimators to estimating the optimal ROC curve of the variance-threshold classier to segment a low depth of field image and to finding a diagnostic tool with multiple tests for detection of hemophilia A carrier.

Estimation of Welding Material Quantity for Shipbuilding at Early Design Stage based on Three-dimensional Geometric Information (3차원 선박형상정보를 활용한 설계초기단계 용접물량 산출)

  • These days, shipbuilding companies are making an effort to adopt the IT technology in order to improve the production efficiency. One such effort is to utilize a planning and scheduling system to predict the production cost in advance. In this system, assessing the welding material quantity is an important factor. Unfortunately, obtaining the welding material quantity in the early design stage is extremely difficult because the detailed production information, which is essential in deriving the cost associated with welding, is normally available at a later stage. This paper aims at developing a computerized program that produces an index to estimate the welding material quantity in the early design stage. By using only three-dimensional geometric information, the program analyzes the production process and estimates the welding material quantity at any design or production stage when no production information is available. The results can be used for the planning and scheduling system.
