  • Robust analogues of the likelihood ratio test are considered for testing of hypotheses involving multiple discrete distributions. The test statistics are generalizations of the Hellinger deviance test of Simpson(1989) and disparity tests of Lindsay(1994), obtained by looking at a 'penalized' version of the distances; harris and Basu (1994) suggest that the penalty be based on reweighting the empty cells. The results show that often the tests based on the ordinary and penalized distances enjoy better robustness properties than the likelihood ratio test. Also, the tests based on the penalized distances are improvements over those based on the ordinary distances in that they are much closer to the likelihood ratio tests at the null and their convergence to the x$^2$ distribution appears to be dramatically faster; extensive simulation results show that the improvement in performance of the tests due to the penalty is often substantial in small samples.

  • An ideal space is ${\cal{I}}-resolvable$ if it has two disjoint ${\cal{I}}-dense$ subsets. We answer the question: If X is ${\cal{I}}-resolvable$, then is X (${\cal{I}}\;{\cup}\;{\cal{N}$)-resolvable?, posed by Dontchev, Ganster and Rose. We give three generalizations of the well known Banach Category Theorem and deduce the Banach category Theorem as a corollary. Characterizations of completely codense ideals and ${\cal{I}-locally$ closed sets are given and their properties are discussed.

  • After the introduction of fuzzy sets by Zadeh, there have been a number of generalizations of this fundamental concept. The notion of intuitionistic fuzzy sets introduced by Aranassov is one among them. In this paper, we apply the concept of an intuitionistic fuzzy set to commutative ideals in BCK-algebras. The notion of an intuitionistic fuzzy commutative ideal of a BCK-algebra is introduced, and some related properties are investigated. Characterizations of an intuitionistic fuzzy commutative ideal are given. Conditions for an intuitionistic fuzzy ideal to be an intuitionistic fuzzy commutative ideal are given. Using a collection of commutative ideals, intuitionistic fuzzy commutative ideals are established.

  • A common geoboard puzzel serves as the point of departure for an investigation that lends itself to whole-group discussion with a class of prospective secondary school teachers. Students are provided with opportunities to devise and carry out problem-solving strategies (called 'heuristics' by Polya); exploit inerrelationships among geometry, arithmetic and algebra; formulate generalizations and conjectures; plan and execute an computational project; construct mathematical arguments to establish theorems; and find counter-examples to dispose of a false conjecture. In recent tears, Eugene F. Krause wrote two papers having the same title except for the numeral In that papers he arrives at an theorem about the sizes of squares with lattice point vertices in the coordinate plane, In this paper we follow a different path genearlization to coordinate 3-space

  • We deal with Matveev complexity of compact orientable 3-manifolds represented via Heegaard diagrams. This lead us to the definition of modified Heegaard complexity of Heegaard diagrams and of manifolds. We define a class of manifolds which are generalizations of Dunwoody manifolds, including cyclic branched coverings of two-bridge knots and links, torus knots, some pretzel knots, and some theta-graphs. Using modified Heegaard complexity, we obtain upper bounds for their Matveev complexity, which linearly depend on the order of the covering. Moreover, using homology arguments due to Matveev and Pervova we obtain lower bounds.

  • In this paper we are concerned with theoretical properties of gap functions for the extended variational inequality problem (EVI) in a general Banach space. We will present a correction of a recent result of Chen et. al. without assuming the convexity of the given function Ω. Using this correction, we will discuss the continuity and the differentiability of a gap function, and compute its gradient formula under tow particular situations in a general Banach space. Our results can be regarded as infinite dimensional generalizations of the well-known results of Fukushima, and Zhu and Marcotte with soem modifications.

  • We present a survey of research results obtained for infra-nilmanifolds, their fundamental groups and some of their generalizations. This is presented from two different approaches and covers achievements obtained during the past four decades and showing a remarkable amount of mathematical interdisciplinarity. We go more in depth concerning the existence and construction of polynomial structures for these manifolds and groups, a direction where significant progress was made in the past few years. The bounded-degree polynomial structures developed by the authors triggered a number of challenging open problems. Also, their study already has lead to some interesting results concerning e.g. Anosov diffeomorphisms and expanding maps.

  • The notions of intuitionistic fuzzy UP-subalgebras and intuitionistic fuzzy UP-ideals of UP-algebras were introduced by Kesorn et al. [13]. In this paper, we introduce the notions of intuitionistic fuzzy near UP-filters, intuitionistic fuzzy UP-filters, and intuitionistic fuzzy strong UP-ideals of UP-algebras, prove their generalizations, and investigate their basic properties. Furthermore, we discuss the relations between intuitionistic fuzzy near UP-filters (resp., intuitionistic fuzzy UP-filters, intuitionistic fuzzy strong UP-ideals) and their upper t-(strong) level subsets and lower t-(strong) level subsets in UP-algebras.

  • In the various module generalizations of the concepts of prime (semiprime) for a ring, the question "when are semiprime modules subdirect product of primes?" is a serious question in this context and it is considered by earlier authors in the literature. We continue study on the above question by showing that: If R is Morita equivalent to a right pre-duo ring (e.g., if R is commutative) then weakly compressible R-modules are precisely subdirect products of prime R-modules if and only if dim(R) = 0 and R/N(R) is a semi-Artinian ring if and only if every classical semiprime module is semiprime. In this case, the class of weakly compressible R-modules is an enveloping for Mod-R. Some related conditions are also investigated.

  • We present a survey of contributions that defined the nature and extent of robust statistics for the last 50 years. From the pioneering work of Tukey, Huber, and Hampel that focused on robust location parameter estimation, we presented various generalizations of these estimation procedures that cover a wide variety of models and data analysis methods. Among these extensions, we present linear models, clustered and dependent observations, times series data, binary and discrete data, models for spatial data, nonparametric methods, and forward search methods for outliers. We also present the current interest in robust statistics and conclude with suggestions on the possible future direction of this area for statistical science.
