비예혼합 튜브형상내 화염셀의 거동에 대한 수치 해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study of the Flame Cell Dynamics in Opposed Nonpremixed Tubular Configuration)

  • The flame cell dynamics in 2-D opposed nonpremixed tubular configuration was investigated using high-fidelity numerical simulations. The diffusive-thermal instability occurs as the $Damk{\ddot{o}}hler$ number, Da, approaches the 1-D extinction limit of the tubular flames and several flame cells are generated depending on Da, and flame radius. In general, the number of flame cells are found close to the largest wave number from the linear stability analysis. It was also found from the displacement speed analysis that during the local flame extinction and cell formation, negative edge flame speed is observed due to small gain from reaction compared to large loss from diffusion.

막재료의 난연 및 방염성능 실험에 대한 연구 (Tests of Fire and Flame Retardant Performance for Membrane Materials)

  • The Membrane structure has a number of problems in the application of a fireproof code based on general buildings codes. Thus, the fireproof code of membrane structure is necessary to activate the construction of the membrane structure. Because it requires a systematic classification of fire retardant and flame proof performance of membrane material. Fire retardant and flame proof tests are conducted on membrane materials mostly used in current construction to propose the fire and flame retardant performance criteria of membrane materials. Fire and flame retardant tests results, PTFE membrane material with the glass fiber fabric have a limit-combustible performance. PVDF membrane material with the polyester fabric does not ensure the fire retardant performance, but this membrane material has the flame retardant performance of a thick fabric. Also, ETFE does not ensure the fire retardant performance, but this membrane material has the flame retardant of a thin fabric.

  • 건축물 내부의 장식을 위해 사용되는 MDF합판은 화염의 착화를 지연시키기 위해 방염처리하도록 규정하고 있어 일반적으로 방염도료나 방염액 또는 방염필름 등을 적용하여 착화를 지연시키는데 이 때 적용하는 시료에 따라 방염성능과 연소 시 발생되는 가스의 유독성의 차이가 발생할 수 있어 본 연구에서는 MDF에 적용된 방염시료들의 방염성능 및 연소특성에 대해 비교분석하였으며 그 결과 방염성능에 부합하는 제품이 확인되었으나 방염처리방법에 따라 방염성능의 차이가 존재함을 확인할 수 있었으며 연소과정에서 발생되어지는 여러 종류의 유독가스의 영향도 함께 고려해야 할 요소임을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • In general, high temperature combustion technique has been adopted as an efficient one. However, hydrocarbon-based fuel can be decomposed under high temperature, and it can affect the stabilization mechanism of edge flame. In this research, basic experimental study was conducted to identify the effect of fuel pyrolysis on the lift-off flame stabilization by changing the temperature of the plug flow reactor. Schmidt number of the gas fuel can be changed with temperature variation due to the fuel pyrolysis. Eventually, this study will help to establish and clarify the stabilization mechanism of lift-off edge flame.

관내 희박 예혼합 프로판/공기와 메탄/공기 화염의 거동에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Behaviors of Lean Premixed Flame of Propane/Air and Methane/Air in a Tube)

  • Behaviors of lean premixed flame of propane/air and methane/air flame anchored by a pilot flame in a tube were investigated experimentally varying the mean velocity from 10 to 140 cm/s and the equivalence ratio from 0.45 to 0.8. Behaviors of both flames are divided into five regions of stable, flash-back, tail-out, flickering and vibrating. General characteristics of each region and Le number effect are investigated. Two main instabilities, flickering and vibration, are both unstable but the instability mechanism, the frequency and the amplitude of pressure fluctuation are different. In the edge of the vibrating region, pressure fluctuation repeats generation and extinction. Repeated growth and decrease of the amplitude of pressure fluctuation are explained by Rayleigh#s index.

A New Flame-Stabilization Technology for Lean Mixtures

  • The development of a low-pollution burner is important for saving energy and preserving the environment. A low-pollution burner can be produced by lean-mixture combustion and general combustion technology. The flammable limit of premixed flame is narrower than that of diffusion flame. Producing a lean mixture of fuel results in an effective combustion condition, which in turn produces high load and low pollution. In this study, it was found that the influx of $Q_2$ had an effect on extending the lean flammable limits and flame stabilization in a doubled jet burner. And the flame, consisting of small eddies, can be stabilized by the nozzle neck phenomena.

  • A promising new approach to achieve low pollutants emission and improvement of flame stabilities is tested experimentally using a hybrid cyclone jet combustor employing both premixed and diffusion combustion mode, Three kind of nozzles are used for LNG(Liquified Natural Gas) as a fuel. The combustor is operated by two method, One is ATI(Air Tangential Injection) mode, generated swirl flow by air as general swirl combustor, and the other is PTI(Premixed gas Tangential Injection) mode, The PTI mode consists of diffusion flame of axial direction and premixed cyclone flame of tangential direction in order to stabilized the diffusion flame. The results showed that the stable region of the PTI mode is more larger than the ATI mode. In addition, the reduction of NOx emission in PTI mode, as compared with that for the ATI mode is at least 50% in stable region. Also, even using the low calorific fuel as $CO_2$-blended gas, the cyclone jet combustor has high performance of flame stability.

  • 무기계 난연제로 널리 사용되고 있는 aluminum trihydrate와 antimony trioxide의 첨가에 의한 열화거동과 난연효과를 열분석 및 화염특성시험(LOI test, flammabilty을 45 degree test)을 통하여 알아보았다. 일반 구조용 glass fiber/unsaturated polyester 복합재료 제조 시 난연 조성에 따른 난연 효과와 기계적 특성(경도, 인장강도, 탄성률) 변화를 조사하였다. 항공우주용 구조에 사용되는 난연 처리된 glass fiber/epoxy prepreg 복합재료 제조 시 공정조건에 따른 난연 특성을 비교 분석하였다. 실험결과를 이용하여 난연제의 난연 기구 및 기계적 물성을 고려한 최적 난연 조성은 ATH의 경우 10∼20 phr이였으며, autoclave 공정압력이 증가할수록 높은 LOI 값을 보였다.

DME/Air 비예혼합화염의 NOx 생성 특성에 관한 기초 연구 (Fundamental Studies on NOx Emission Characteristics in a Dimethyl Ether/Air Nonpremixed Flame)

  • The NOx emission characteristics of DME in counterflow nonpremixed flames were investigated numerically, and brief experiments were carried out to compare the flame shapes and NOx emissions with those of $C_3H_8$ and $C_2H_6$. The DME flames were calculated using Kaiser's mechanism, while the $C_2H_6$ flames were calculated using the $C_3$ mechanism. These mechanisms were combined with the modified Miller-Bowman mechanism for the analysis of NOx. Experimental results show that DME flame has the characteristics of partial premixed flame and the flame length becomes very shorter compared with general hydrocarbon fuels and then, the NOx emission of DME is low as much as 60% of $C_3H_8$. In the calculated results of counterflow nonpremixed flames, the EINO of DME nonpremixed flame is low as much as 50% of the $C_2H_6$ nonpremixed flame. The cause of $EI_{NO}$ reduction is attributed mainly to the characteristics of partial premixed flame due to the existence of O atom in DME and partly to the O-C bond in DME, instead of C-C bond in hydrocarbon fuels.

  • A visualization study on the effect of forcing amplitude in tone-excited jet diffusion flames has been conducted. Visualization techniques are employed using optical schemes. which are a light scattering photography. Flame stability curve is attained according to Reynolds number and forcing amplitude at a fuel tube resonant frequency. Flame behavior is globally grouped into two from attached flame to blown-out flame according to forcing amplitude: one sticks the tradition flame behavior which has been observed in general jet diffusion flames and the other shows a variety of flame modes such as the flame of a feeble forcing amplitude where traditionally well-organized vortex motion evolves, a fat flame. an elongated flame. and an in-burning flame. Particular attention is focused on an elongation flame. which is associated with a turnabout phenomenon of vortex motion and on a reversal of the direction of vortex roll-up. It is found that the flame length with forcing amplitude is the direct outcome of the evolution process of the formed inner flow structure. Especially the negative part of the acoustic cycle under the influence of a strong negative pressure gradient causes the shapes of the fuel stem and fuel branch part and even the direction of vortex roll-up to dramatically change.
