Statement of problem. The importance of fixture design and surface treatment. Purpose. The clinical success of dental in plants is affected by many factors such like as degree of osseointegration, the effective load dispersion for the prostheses, and a lot of attempts have been made to overcome the difficulties. In this study, efforts were made to find the possibility of clinical acceptance of the dental implants of newly designed surface and resorbable blast media surcace. Materials and methods. In this study, two groups of custom-made, screw-shaped implants were prepared. The first with the consisting of Branemark clone design and the other with the new design. These implants were divided into four groups according to the kinds of surface treatment. Four implants($AVANA^{(R)}$, Osstem, Busan, Korea)of each group were installed in twenty rabbits. Group A was consisted of Branemark done implant left as machined, Group B with Branemark clone implants with RBM(Resorbable blast media) surface, Group C with newly designed implants left as machined and Group D with newly designed implants with RBM surface. One of the twenty rabbits died from inflammation and the observation was made for six weeks. Specimens from four groups were observed using scanning electron microscopy with 40, 100, 1000 magnification power and microsurface structures were measured by white-light scanning interferometry for three dimensional surface roughness measurements(Accura $2000^{(R)}$, Intek-Plus, Korea.). Removal torque was measured in 17 rabbits using digital torque gauge(MGT 12R, Mark-10 corp., NY, U.S.A.) immediately after the sacrifice and two rabbits were used for the histologic preparation(EXAKT $310^{(R)}$, Heraeus Kulzer, wehrheim, Germany) of specimens and observed under light microscope. Resonance frequency measurement($Osstell^{(R)}$) was taken with the 19 rabbits at the beginning of the implant fixation and immediately after the sacrifice. Results. Following results were taken from the experiment. 1. The surface of the RBM implants as seen with SEM had rough and irregular pattern with reticular formation compared to that of fumed specimens showing different surface topographies. 2. The newly designed implant with RBM surface had high removal torque value among four groups with no statistical significance. The average removal torque was $49.95{\pm}6.70Ncm$ in Group A, $51.15{\pm}4.40Ncm$ in Group B, $50.78{\pm}9.37Ncm$ in Group C, $51.09{\pm}4.69Ncm$ in Group D. 3. The RFA values were $70.8{\pm}4.3Hz$ in Group A, $71.8{\pm}3.1Hz$ in Group B, $70.9{\pm}2.5Hz$, $72.7{\pm}2.5Hz$ in Group D. Higher values were noted in the groups which had surface treatment compared to the untreated groups with no statistical significance. 4. The results from the histomorphometric evaluation showed a mean percentage of bone-to-implant contact of $45{\pm}0.5%$ in Group A, $55{\pm}3%$ in Group B, $49.5{\pm}0.5%$ in Group C, and $55{\pm}3%$ in Group D. Quite amount of newly formed bone were observed at the surface RBM-treated implants in bone marrow space.
Statement of problem: In distal extension removable partial denture, the preservation of health of abutment teeth are very important, but they are always subjected to unfavorable stress. Purpose: The purpose of this study was performed to investigate the effects of abutment splinting and design of direct retainer on the stress distribution of abutments in unilateral distal extension removable partial dentures. Material and method: Abutments were splinted by different method. In group 1, autment teeth were not splinted, in group 2, canine and 1st premolar were splinted, and in group 3, canine, 1st and 2nd premolars were all splinted. Three different types of direct retainer such as Akers clasp, RPI clasp, and wrought wire clasp were designed. Strain was measured with Switch & Balance Unit(SB-10, Measurement Group Instruments Division, Raleigh USA) and Strain Indicator(P-3500, Measurement Group Instruments Division, Raleigh, USA) 15kg of vertical and oblique loads was applied at central fossa of missing 2nd molar area. Results : The strain on lingual side of 2nd premolar was the greatest, and abutment splinting induced decrease of strain on buccolingual side of 2nd premolar. The strain of loaded area was decreased by abutment splinting and there was no statistical difference of strain between Group2 and Group 3, and strain on 2nd premolar in wrought wire clasp was the least. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, splinting of two distal abutment teeth is enough for stress distribution widely, and wrought wire clasp was more benefitable than others.

Objectives: This study compared the mechanical efficacy of sonic activated and passive ultrasonic irrigation for removing intracanal medicament from a simulated root canal under controlled conditions. Materials and Methods: Thirty simulated root canal in resin blocks were randomly divided into 3-groups. The canals were enlarged using ProTaper files and K3XF (#30/0.06). After cleaning and drying, canals were filled with Calcipex. Overfilled materials were wiped out and measured their weight to the unit of 1/10mg. After one week storage in 100% humidity $37^{\circ}C$ temperature, canals were irrigated using 20mL of saline with one of following methods according to the designated groups (n = 10). For group-NI, 30-gauge nickel-titanium irrigation needle was used. During irrigation with every 5mL, needle was moved in-and-out with 4-mm amplitudes. EndoActivator and ultrasonic tip were used for group-EA and group-UT respectively for 20 seconds after every 5mL irrigation using needle. Then the weight was measured again to calculate the weight of residual remnants. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Duncan's post-hoc test at a significance level of 95%. Results: The weight of the residual medicaments were $3.62{\pm}0.81mg$, $2.84{\pm}0.28mg$, and $2.73{\pm}0.90mg$ for group-NI, -EA, and -UT, respectively. Group-EA and group-UT had no significant differences to remove intracanal medicament and left significantly less amount of paste than group-NI (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Under the controlled conditions of this study, the sonic activation and PUI have similar mechanical efficacy for removing intracanal medicament.

The purpose of this study was to compare the polymerization shrinkage of several filling methods using strain gauges. In this study, a light-emitting diode(LED) curing unit(Elipar Freeligh2, 3M EPSE, USA) and plasma arc lamp(PAL) curing unit(Flipo, LOKKI, France) were used for curing, Filtek $Z350^{TM}$(3M EPSE, USA) composite resin was used for the cavity filling. Sixty permanent bicuspid teeth, that were extracted for orthodontic treatment, were studied. The cavities were prepared on the occlusal surface and were filled using the following methods : 1) bulk filling, 2) parallel filling, 3) oblique filling The strain was recorded on the buccal, lingual, mesial and distal surfaces and the strain values were computed into stress values. The shear bond strength of each filling method was tested using a Micro Universal Testing machine. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. In the strain changes, all LED and PAL curing groups showed an increase on the buccal surface and a slow decrease as time elapsed. 2. In the strain changes of the mesial and distal surfaces, the decreases and increases were shown repeatedly and reduced as time elapsed. 3. There were no significant statistical strain changes among filling methods in the LED or PAL curing groups. 4. There were significant statistical strain changes between the LED and PAL curing groups on the buccal surface(p<0.05). 5. From the shear bond strength results, in the LED curing group, filling method 3 showed lower surface stress than filling method 1 and 2(p<0.05). In the PAL curing group, there were no significant statistical strain changes between each filling method. 6. The surface stress of each group was lower than the shear bond strength.

Centric relation is defined the horizontal position between maxilla and mandible when condylar head of mandible is positioned adequately in mandibular fossa. The most recent concept of centric relation position is defined as the mandibular position in which the condyles are in their most superoanterior position in the articular fossa, resting against the posterior slope of the articular eminences, with the articular disk properly interposed. To be suitable as a reference point during occlusal management, a mandibular position of centric relation has to be functionally acceptable to the patient and clinically reproducible and achievable during everyday practice. There are numerous methods for determination of centric relation, and in this study we used three of them, Gothic arch tracing(Group I), leaf gauge(Group II), and anterior jig(Group III). The subjects were 10, 8 men and 2 women, age-ranged from 23 to 26 years old, had no prosthetics in thier mouth, and had no sign and symptom of temporomandibular disorders. We gained three occlusal records using each method, and then the degree of the reproducibility was examined with split cast technique. In this study the reproducibility of centric relation using split cast technique was greater in the order of Group I(mean 1.6), Group II(mean 1.4), and Group III(mean 1.3), but there was no significant differences among them statistically(p>0.05).
Background: Contraction of anal sphincter muscle produces severe pain in perianal surgery postoperatively. Recent reports have indicated that effective and prolonged pain relief can be obtained by the injection of small doses of morphine into the subarachnoid space. We attempted to use this technique for perianal surgery and investigated postoperative pain control and its side effects. Methods: Forty five patients scheduled for hemorrhoidectomy and anal fistulectomy were studied to determine the minimal effective dose of intrathecal morphine for postoperative analgesia. In order to control the pain, 7 mg of 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacaine with 0.05 mg (group I), 0.1 mg (group II) and 0.15 mg (group III) of morphine hydrochloride was injected with a 25 gauge spinal needle into the subarachnoid space. We estimated the duration of analgesia until the pain score attained to above 3 in 10 cm VAS (visual analogue scale) and incidence of itching, nausea and vomiting by percentage, headache, backpain and respiratory depression by positive and negative. We also checked the time of self-voiding. Results: The mean time of analgesia was $10.3{\pm}1.54$, $19.7{\pm}2.22$ and $20.3{\pm}2.29$ hours in group I, II and III respectively. Urinary retention of group I, II and III after block persisted for an average of $20.3{\pm}2.31$, $21.2{\pm}2.51$ and $23.3{\pm}3.74$ hours. Nausea and vomiting were observed 33%, 53%, 67% and itching was observed 53%, 67%, 80% in group I, II and III respectively and respiratory depression did not occur in all groups. Conclusions: It is not necessary to use more than 0.1mg of intrathecal morphine in perianal surgery because analgesia is not prolonged and side effects are increased.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture strength and removal torque value (RTV) of a conventional angled abutment and a newly developed angled abutment (Beauty up abutment) with an angulated screw access hole. Each abutment was divided into a control group and an experimental group (n = 20, respectively). To measure the fracture strength, the abutment was connected to the internal hex implant with 30 Ncm torque, and a load was applied at 30 degree angle with cross-head speed of 1 mm/min using a universal testing machine according to the ISO 14801:2016 standard. To measure RTV, each abutment was fastened to the implant with 30 Ncm torque. Retightening was performed after 10 minutes, and initial RTV was measured with a digital torque gauge. After retightening, a load of 250 N was applied to the abutment at a 30 degree angle using a chewing simulator. After a total of 100,000 repeated loads, RTV was measured. Statistical analysis was performed using Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test (α = .05). The fracture strength of the experimental group was statistically significantly lower than that of the control group (P = .009). There was no significant difference between initial RTV and post-loading RTV between the experimental group and the control group (P = .753, P = .527, respectively), and cyclic loading did not significantly affect RTV in both groups (P = .078).
This research checked about the necessity for the development of men's dress forms in the first investigation for the educational circle and the men's wear industry. Somatotype characteristics were analyzed in the second investigation of body measurement with the subjects of 200 male adults in their twenties residing in Busan. The following are the results of the present research to develop male dress forms for patternmaking: 1. In the group analysis for the characterization of front body types, three somatotypes were found and named H, Semi X, and Y. In the cluster analysis of side body types, four types were identified: D, I, d, and q. In the combination of front and lateral body types, four kinds were chosen: semi X-I, semi X-q, semi Y-I, and Y-q. 2. Through the comparison of plane figures by the plaster method as well as horizontal and vertical cross sections by the sliding gauge method, semi X-I was finally chosen as the standard somatotype for male dress form development. 3. Compared with the sliding gauge method of the present dress forms, the research dress form reflected better the shapes of the parts of the back and hips and the position of the waist, especially for males in their 20's. In addition, the dress form in the current research had superior points in all the items of clothing evaluation. Based on the above results, the sizes and models of the men's dress forms for patternmaking were developed.
