Nowadays multilevel inverters are developing generally due to reduced voltage stress on power switches and low total harmonic distortion (THD) in output voltage. However, for increasing the output voltage levels the number of circuit devices are increased and it results in increasing the cost of converter. In this paper, a novel multilevel inverter is proposed. The suggested topology uses less number of power switches and related gate drive circuits to generate the same level in output voltage with comparison to traditional cascaded multilevel inverter. With the proposed topology all levels in output voltage can be realized. As an illustration, a symmetric 13-level and asymmetric 29-level proposed inverters have been simulated and implemented. The total peak inverse (PIV) and power losses of presented inverter are calculated and compared with conventional cascaded multilevel inverter. The presented analyses show that the power losses in the suggested multilevel inverter are less than the traditional inverters. Presented simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed inverter to obtain the maximum number of levels with less number of switches.

Power semiconductor device has a very long history among semiconductor, since the invention of low-pressure bipolar transistor 1947, and so far from small capacity to withstand voltage-current, high-speed and high-frequency characteristics have been developed with high function. In this study, the PWM IC Switch to the main parts used in IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) for the low power loss and high drive capability of the simulator to Synopsys' T-CAD used by the 1,700 V NPT Planar IGBT, 1,700 V FS was a study of the Planar IGBT, the results confirmed that IGBT 1,700 V FS Planar is making about 11 percent less than the first designed NPT Planar IGBT.
Current source inverter drives of auto sequentially commutated type are very popular in high power applications, because of simple power circuit configuration with four quadrant operation. But the six-step current output create harmonic problems and the input power factor of such a drive is not always good. In this respect pulse width modulated drives using gate turn off thyristors ( GTO ) are finding application, especially in traction drives. However the switching and snubber loses of a GTO do not permit the inverter switching frequency go beyond a few hundred hertz. This will again introduce low frequency harmonic problems. Multi level inverters of the 3-level and 5-level can be considered as an alternative to overcome the low switching frequency harmonic problem of the 2-level GTO inverters. But with multi level inverters the complexity of the power circuit increases. In this paper a combination of multi level ( 2-level and 3-level ) inverters and multi phase induction motor ( 3-phase and 6-phase) configurations are presented for high power VSI drives for traction applications with reduced inverter switching frequency requirements coupled with reduced voltage rating for the power switch.

The piezoelectric transformer converters electrical energy into mechanical energy, It is high efficiency and small size transformer for high output voltage. The piezoelectric transformer operates the resonance frequency and the output voltage waveform is close to sine wave. Therefore, it is suitable for driving the LCD backlight in the notebook computer. In this paper, we discussed about the inverter which os driving piezoelectric transformer by generating sine wave through LC resonance after converting input DC voltage to the gate signal of FET. As the result of experiments, it was showed that the resonance frequency and voltage gain of the piezoelectric transformer was proportional to the load variation, and voltage gain was independent of the input voltage variation.

In this paper, the power amplifier using active bias circuits for LDMOS(Lateral Diffused Metal Oxide Semiconductor) MRF-21180 is designed and fabricated. According to change the temperature, the gate voltage of LDMOS is controlled by the fabricated active bias circuits which is made of PNP transistor to suppress drain current. The driving amplifier using MRF-21125 and MRF-21060 is made to drive the LDMOS MRF-21180 power amplifier. The variation of current consumption in the fabricated 60 watt power amplifier has an excellent characteristics of less than 0.1 A, whereas a passive biasing circuit dissipates more than 0.5 A. The implemented power amplifier has the gain over 9 dB, the gain flatness of less than $\pm$0.1 dB and input and output return loss of less than -6 dB over the frequency range 2.11 $\sim$ 2.17 GHz. The DC operation point of this power amplifier at temperature variation 0 $^{\circ}C$ to 60 $^{\circ}C$ is fixed by active bias circuit.
The Induction Heating equipment is widely used for steel plate heating in the surface treatment process of steel industries. In the case of thin steel plate, for high efficiency We need the high frequency induction heating equipment more than 100kHz. But it is difficult to realize the high frequency and high power at the same time. That's why most high frequency equipment more than 100kHz has been imported from advanced Manufacturer. This paper will describe the development of 100kHz/5MVA inverter module for 100kHz/20MVA induction heating. We used the LCL resonance topology and ZVS/ZCS switching technology. And we also developed the low loss gate drive board and plate busbar inverter stack. We proved the performance by various experiment.

This paper presents an advanced sensorless permanent magnet (PM) brushless motor controller integrated circuit (IC) employing an automatic lead-angle compensator. The proposed IC is composed of not only a sensorless sine-wave motor controller but also an isolated gate-driver and current self-sensing circuit. The fabricated IC operates in sensorless mode using a position estimator based on a sliding mode observer and an open-loop start-up. For high efficiency PM brushless motor driving, an automatic lead-angle control algorithm is employed, which improves the efficiency of a PM brushless motor system by tracking the minimum copper loss under various load and speed conditions. The fabricated IC is evaluated experimentally using a commercial 200 W PM brushless motor and power switches. The proposed IC is successfully operated without any additional sensors, and the proposed algorithm maintains the minimum current and maximum system efficiency under $0N{\cdot}m$ to $0.8N{\cdot}m$ load conditions. The proposed IC is a feasible sensorless speed controller for various applications with a wide range of load and speed conditions.

Hub BLDC(Brushless Direct Current) motor, called wheel-in motor is a outer rotor type high efficient direct driving motor which have a multi-pole permanent magnet type rotor as a driving wheel. This study shows a hub BLDC motor speed controller design methode using PIC micro controller to drive 2 wheels or 3 wheels driving body having hub motor driving shaft. The motor driver unit consists of six discrete MOSFET switching devices and the gate driving module is directly designed for high economy.
In this paper, configuration of $1-{\phi}$ seven-level boost DC-link cascade based reversing voltage multilevel inverter (BDCLCRV MLI) is proposed for uninterrupted power supply (UPS) applications. It consists of three level boost converter, level generation unit and full bridge circuit for polarity generation. When compared with conventional boost cascaded H-bridge MLI configurations, the proposed system results in reduction of DC sources, reduced power switches and gate drive requirements. Inverter switching is accomplished by providing appropriate switching angles that is generated by any optimization switching angle techniques. Here, round modulation control (RMC) method is taken as the optimization method and switching angles are derived and the same is compared with various switching angles methods i.e., equal-phase (EP) method, and half-equal-phase (HEP) method which results in improved quality of obtained AC power with lowest total harmonic distortion (THD). Reduction in DC sources and switch count makes the system more cost effective. A simulation and prototype model of $1-{\phi}$ seven-level BDCLCRV MLI system is developed and its performance is analyzed for various operating conditions.
A quasi-constant on-time controlled buck front end in combined discontinuous conduction mode and boundary conduction mode is proposed to improve power factor (PF).When instantaneous AC input voltage is lower than the output bus voltage per period, the buck converter turns into buck-boost converter with the addition of a level comparator to compare input voltage and output voltage. The gate drive voltage is provided by an additional oscillator during distortion time to eliminate the cross-over distortion of the input current. This high PF comes from the avoidance of the input current distortion, thereby enabling energy to be delivered constantly. This paper presents a series analysis of controlling techniques and efficiency, PF, and total harmonic distortion. A comparison in terms of efficiency and PF between the proposed converter and a previous work is performed. The specifications of the converter include the following: input AC voltage is from 90V to 264V, output DC voltage is 80V, and output power is 94W.This converter can achieve PF of 98.74% and efficiency of 97.21% in 220V AC input voltage process.
