Almost all countries of the world have recently made great efforts to reduce green-house gases to alleviate the global warming threatening human survival, because a huge amount of carbon dioxide as one of the main green-house gases has been emitted from the combustion processes of fossil fuels such as coal and oil. $CO_2$ capture and storage (CCS) technology is a representative method to diminish the green-house gases, and actively investigated by many countries. This study focuses on the design and construction of a high pressure $CO_2$ injection facility to store it to underground, which is the first $CO_2$ injection in Korea following the steps of the $CO_2$ capture from large $CO_2$ emission sources and transportation to the sea. Injection tests of $CO_2$ on the platform on the sea were carried out in Yeongil Bay of Pohang city in the early 2017. Thus, we were able to perceive the necessary operating conditions of the injection facility, injection characteristic, and knowhow of the injection facility. The results obtained from the injection test shall be utilized for facility upgrades and scale-ups.

Chemical and isotopic compositions of hydrocarbon gases were analyBed to characterize the properties of the shallow gases distributed in the southeastern part of the Ulleung Basin, offshore Korea. Sediments from the core were also analyzed to determine the characteristics and relationship to shallow gases. Hydrocarbon gases in the sediments consisted of methane (697.9-6054.4 ppm), ethane, propane, butane and hexane. The total carbon content of the sediments ranges from 1.84fe to $5.11{\%}$ and the total organic carbon content ranges from $0.29{\%} \;to\; 2.65{\%}$. High C/N ratio (>10) indicates that input of terrestrial organic matter was prevalent at the time of deposition. The methane content and stable isotopic data indicate that hydrocarbon gases from the sediments are identified to be thermogenic gas and mixture of both biogenic and thermal gases. Based on the Rock-Eval and carbon isotopic data, the level of thermal maturity of organic matter in the sediments $(Tmax<425^{\circ}C)$ is lower than that of gas. It suggests that thermal gases in the sediments migrated from the deeper sediments than the penetrated depth.

All liquids contain a small amount of gaseous components and the amount of gases dissolved in a liquid is in accordance with Henry's Law. In a multi-stage thermal-type seawater desalination plant, as the supplied seawater undergoes variations in temperature and pressure in each evaporator, the gases dissolved in the seawater are discharged from the liquid. The discharged gases are carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, and argon, and these emitted gases are non-condensable. From the viewpoint of convective heat transfer, the evaluation of non-condensable gas released during a vacuum evaporation process is a very important design factor because the non-condensable gases degrade the performance of the cooler. Furthermore, in a thermal-type seawater desalination plant, most evaporators operate under vacuum, which maintained through vacuum system such as a steam ejector or a vacuum pump. Therefore, for the proper design of a vacuum system, estimating the non-condensable gases released from seawater is highly crucial. In the study, non-condensable gases released in a thermal-type seawater desalination plant were calculated quantitatively. The calculation results showed that the NCG releasing rate decreased as the stage comes getting a downstream and it was proportional to the freshwater production rate.

Purpose: Performances of a tractor diesel engine fueled by three different animal fats biodiesels were evaluated comparing with light oil tractor in terms of power, fuel consumption rate, exhaust gases, particulate matter amount and field work capacity. Methods: Animal fats based on pig biodiesel were manufactured manually and tested for its engine performance in the tractor diesel engine and fuel adoptability in the field works. Four different fuels, three different content of biodiesel (BD20, BD50, BD100) and light oil, were prepared and tested in the four strokes diesel engine. Power output, fuel consumption rate and exhaust gases of the four fuels in the diesel engine were compared and discussed. Results: Power output of light oil engine was the greatest showing 5.3% difference between light oil and BD100, but 0.37% better power than BD20 engine power. Less exhaust gases of $CO_2$, CO, $NO_X$ and THC were produced from animal fats biodiesel than light oil, which confirmed that biodiesel is environmental friendly fuel. For fuel adoptability in the tractor, biodiesel engine tractor showed its fuel competitiveness comparing with light oil for tractor works in the faddy field. Conclusions: With four different fuel types of animal-fats biodiesel, performances of a four cylinder diesel engine for tractor were evaluated in terms of power, exhaust gases, particulate matters (PM) and field work capacity. No significant differences observed in the engine performances including power output and exhaust gases emission rate. No significant power difference observed between the various fuels including light oil on the engine running, however, amounts of noxious exhaust gases including $CO_2$ and $NO_X$ decreased as biodiesel content increased in the fuels. Field performances of animal-fats biodiesel tractor were investigated by conducting plowing and rotary operation in the field. Tilling and rotary performance of light oil tractor and BD20 tractor in the field were compared, in which about 10% travelling speed difference on both operations were monitored that showed light oil tractor was superior to BD20 tractor by 10%. Animal-fats can be an alternative fuel source replacing light oil for agricultural machinery and an environmental friendly fuel to nature.

The influence of ambient gases on field emission performance of Mo-field emitter array(FEA) in the frit-sealing step of field emission display(FED) packaging process was investigated. Mo-tip FEA was mounted on the glass substrate having a surrounded frit(Ferro FX11-137) and fired at $415^{\circ}C$ in the ambient gases of air, $N_2$ and Ar. The Ar gas was proved to be most proper ambient among the used gases through evaluating the turn-on voltage and field emission current of the fired Mo-tip FEA devices. It was confirmed that the Mo surface fired in Ar ambient was less oxidized when compared with another ones annealed in air and Ar ambient by the AFM, XPS, AES and SIMS analysis. Finally, the 3.5 inch-sized Mo-tip FED, which was packaged using frit-sealing process in the Ar ambient, was proposed.

The narrow band-averaged transmissivity of $CO_2-H_2O$ mixtures is expressed by multiplying the transmissivities of $CO_2\;and\;H_2O$. Applying the multiplication property of narrow band transmissivities for gas mixtures of $CO_2-H_2O$ of the narrow band based WSGGM (weighted sum of gray gases model), the number of gray gases, required for accurate representation of the absorption characteristics by using the narrow band based WSGGM, is significantly increased. To reduce the computational loads by reducing the number of gray gases, we propose a gray gas regrouping process where the gray gases used for .the WSGGM are regrouped into a specified number of groups according to the magnitudes of absorption coefficients. To evaluate the proposed WSGGM for gas mixtures, the radiative transfer problems through 3-dimensional gas media are considered. The radiative source terms and the radiative heat fluxes obtained by using the proposed method are fairly well compared to previous results obtained by using the SNB model and other models. The regrouping technique results in an excellent computational efficiency with minor loss of accuracy.
The possibility of new GMAW process using economic shielding gases including CO$_{2}$ gas was investigated on the effect of shielding gas on weldabilty. In the optimum welding condition using 600A power source, FCAW process showed low depositions rate, 114 g/min at 300A, but new GMAW using other mixed shielding gases exhibited high deposition rate, 208-224 g/min at 450A. TIME gas, Ar+CO$_{2}$ gas and Ar+CO$_{2}$+O$_{2}$ gas as a shielding gas were able to be used to the very high welding current(450A), moreover TIME gas and Ar+CO$_{2}$ gas showed the highest arc stability among shielding gases studied in this experiments. The weld penetration was performed by axial spray transfer mode of weld droplet. On the basis of workability, weldability and economic point of view, Ar mixture (80%Ar+20%CO$_{2}$) gas was recommended as a shielding gas for the development and application of new GMAW process. This shielding gas showed the low spatter, good weld quality, stable arc and low cost at the region of high welding current.

Faults of cellulosic insulations greatly affect the life span of oil immersed transformers because their performance recovery is impossible. Therefore, the reliable diagnosis technologies are needed for detection of the faults. Dissolved gas analysis technologies using CO and $CO_2$ gases have been widely used for fault diagnosis of cellulosic insulations. In this research, we described Degradation diagnosis of insulation paper CO and $CO_2$ gases in oil immersed Transformers using. We considered the distribution characteristics of CO, $CO_2$ gases' concentrations and ratios of $CO_2$/CO not only in serviced transformers but in experiments with typical fault causes such as heat, partial discharge and moisture. As result, the reliability of diagnosis results for the cellulosic insulations can be improved when the concentrations of CO, $CO_2$ and the ratio of CO/$CO_2$ satisfy each diagnosis criterion at a tim
Semiconductor gas sensor using tin oxide as sensing material has been used to detect gases based on the fact that impedance of the sensing material varies when the gas sensor is exposed to the gases. This variation comprises of two parts. The first one is variation in resistance of the sensing material and the other is expressed in terms of the sensor capacitance variation. Normally, only variation of the sensor resistance is considered. In this paper, using AC measurement with a capacitor-coupled inverting amplifier circuit, both changes in the sensor resistance and variations in the sensor capacitance were investigated. These characteristics were represented as magnitude gain and phase shift of AC signal at a specific frequency after passing it through the sensor and the designed circuit. A two-stage artificial neural network, which utilized the information above, was employed to identify and quantify three combustible gases: methane, propane and butane. The network outputs were approximately proportional to concentrations of test gases with reasonable level of error.
Effects of gases to growth of $SiO_2$ nanowires were characterized. $N_2$, Ar, and $O_2$ gas's effect were determined. $SiO_2$ nanowires growth scheme was varied by kind and flow rates of gases because of amounts of $O_2$. Flow rates of gases and kind of substrates affected nanowires' diameters, lengths and morphologies of grown nano wires. With increasing flow rates of gases, nanowire's diameter increased because of additional VS and SLS reactions. By TEM characterization, We knows that, grown $SiO_2$ nanowires on Si substrate showed two shell structures. These shapes of nanowires were formed by reaction of additional SLS growth. Grown $SiO_2$ nanowires showed blue luminescence by PL characterization These Blue luminescence was due to quantum confinement effect and oxygen vacancies in the nanowires.
