Diffusion of CO2 Molecules in Polyethylene Terephthalate/Polylactide Blends Estimated by Molecular Dynamics Simulations

  • Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been used to study the diffusion behavior of small gas molecules ($CO_2$) in polyethylene terephthalate (PET)/polylactide (PLA) blends. The Flory-Huggins interaction parameters (${\chi}$) determined from the cohesive energy densities are smaller than the critical value of Flory-Huggins interaction parameters (${\chi}_{critical}$), and that indicates the good compatibility of PET/PLA blends. The diffusion coefficients of $CO_2$ are determined via MD simulations at 298 K. That the order of diffusion coefficients is correlated with the availably fractional free volume (FFV) of $CO_2$ in the PET/PLA blends means that the FFV plays a vital role in the diffusion behavior of $CO_2$ molecules in PET/PLA blends. The slopes of the log (MSD) as a function of log (t) are close to unity over the entire composition range of PET/PLA blends, which confirmes the feasibility of MD approach reaches the normal diffusion regime of $CO_2$ in PET/PLA blends.

티타늄 자전거의 다중 조인트 접합을 위한 초소성 하이드로포밍과 확산 접합 기술 (Joining of Multi Nodes of a Titanium Bicycle by the Superplastic Hydroforming and Diffusion Bonding Technology)

  • The superplastic forming/diffusion bonding process has been developed to fabricate a core frame structure with joint nodes out of tubes, for the development of a titanium high performance bicycle. The hydroforming process has been applied for bulging of a tube in the superplastic condition before, and during the diffusion bonding process. In this experiment, a commercial Ti-3Al-2.5V tube was selected as raw material for the study. The forming experiment has been performed using a servo-hydraulic press with a capacity of 200 ton. Next, nitrogen gas was used to acquire necessary pressure for the bulging and bonding of the tubes to fabricate the joint nodes. The pertinent processing temperature was $870^{\circ}C$ for the superplastic hydroforming/diffusion bonding (SHF/DB) process, using the Ti-3Al-2.5V tube. The bonding quality and the progress of bulging and diffusion bonding have been observed by the investigation of the joining interfaces at the cross section of the joint structure. The control of the nitrogen pressure throughout the SHF/DB process, was an important factor to avoid any significant defects in the joint structure. The whole progress stage of the diffusion bonding could be observed at a joint interface. A core structure with 5 joint nodes to manufacture a titanium bicycle could be obtained in a SHF/DB process.

LNG 저장탱크 염해 확산 계수 산출을 위한 실험적 고찰 (An Experimental Study on the Estimation of Chloride Diffusion Coefficient of LNG Storage Tanks)

  • LNG 저장탱크는 해안에 인접한 해양 구조물로써 염해에 대해 취약성을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 그 동안 염해에 대한 특별한 건전성관리 체계에 대한 연구는 이루어진 바가 없었다. 탱크의 설계보증 수명 약 25년이 도래하는 시점에서 대체 신규 LNG 탱크 건설로 막대한 비용 및 자원의 낭비를 막고 효율적인 LNG 저장탱크의 수명관계를 위해서 염해에 대한 기초적인 실험데이터는 필수적이다. 따라서 본 연구는 추후 연구 될 LNG 저장탱크 콘크리트 수명예측에 대한 기초적인 자료를 만들기 위해 수행하였으며, 북유럽에서 시행하는 NT Build 492 규격을 신설 탱크의 벽체 콘크리트에 적용하였다. 시험결과 다량의 플라이애시 효과로 재령 90일의 확산계수가 재령 28일의 확산계수의 46%의 값을 보였다. 시방서(배합표)에 의한 계산값과 재령 28일 및 재령 90일 시험값을 비교한 결과, 재령 90일 시험값이 재령 28일 시험값보다 계산값에 근사한 결과를 보임에 따라 90일에 시험을 실시하는 것이 LNG 저장탱크 염해확산계수의 신뢰성을 높일 수 있음을 확인하였다.

가정용 보일러의 불완전연소가스 누출확산 메커니즘 해석 (Analysis of Mechanism for Diffusion of Incomplete Combustion Gas Released from Domestic Gas Boiler)

  • Carbon Monoxide(CO) poisoning accident is higher than any other gas accident in the rate of deaths/incidents. In the last five years, 36 people died and 104 were wounded because of carbon monoxide poisoning accident. Most of these CO poisoning accidents were caused by defective exhaust tube in the old gas boiler and multi-use facility. In this study, the spread of incomplete combustion gas(CO) released from leakage hole of exhaust tube was analyzed by computational flow modeling and concentration measuring test. CO gas leaked form exhaust tube in a building was highest concentrated near the ceiling and formed the circular currents along the walls. Through these experiments and simulation, the reasonable installation location of carbon monoxide alarm was made certain and suggested.

  • The effects of burnt gas mixing, which can be caused by turbulent eddy mixing, on the interaction and extinction characteristics of premixed flames are analyzed using large activation energy asymptotics adopting counterflow as a model problem. The results show that the burnt gas mixing, preferential diffusion and heat loss affect the fuel consumption rate, flame temperature and the oxidizer concentration at the flame which influence the flame behavior and the extinction characteristics.

  • Commercially available fuel oil for power plant contains relatively much sulphur, which means accordingly high content sulphur deoxide in exhaust gas. Sulphur deoxide has been identified as the worst-pollutant caused by thermal power generation. This paper primarily deals with the stack gas diffusion effects of various parameters, namely vertical stability, wind velocity, exhaust gas velocity, stack height, etc., on the ground concentration. thereof the relation between stack height and maximum plant capacity is analyzed from the standpoint of air pollution prevention. The limit capacity is calculated by means of mean concentration introducing Mead and Lowry coefficient respectively.

Nano-Mechanics 분석을 통한 질화 텅스텐 확산방지막의 질소 유량에 따른 연구 (Study of Tungsten Nitride Diffusion Barrier for Various Nitrogen Gas Flow Rate by Employing Nano-Mechanical Analysis)

  • 반도체 소자의 소형화, 고집적화로 박막의 다층화 및 선폭 감소로 인한 실리콘 웨이퍼와 금속 박막 사이의 확산을 방지하기 위한 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 tungsten (W)을 주 물질로 증착시 nitrogen (N)의 유량을 2.5~10 sccm으로 변화시키며 증착된 확산방지막의 nano-mechanics 특성에 대해 연구하였다. 증착률, 비저항 및 결정학적 특성을 ${\beta}$-ray backscattering spectroscopy, 4-point probe, X-ray diffraction (XRD)을 이용하여 측정한 후 Nano-indenter를 사용하여 nano-mechanics 특성을 조사하였다. 그 결과 질소 가스 유량이 5 sccm 포함된 박막에서 표면 경도(surface hardness)는 10.07 에서 15.55 GPa로 급격하게 증가하였다. 이후 질소가스의 유량이 7.5 및 10 sccm에서는 표면 경도가 각각 12.65와 12.77 GPa로 질소 가스 유량이 5 sccm인 박막보다 표면경도가 상대적으로 감소하였다. 이는 박막 내 결정질과 비정질의 W과 N의 결합 비율의 차이에 의한 영향으로 생각되며, 또한 압축응력에 기인한 스트레스 증가가 원인으로 판단된다.

Diffusion Range and Pool Formation in the Leakage of Liquid Hydrogen Storage Tank Using CFD Tools

  • In liquid hydrogen storage tanks, tank damage or leakage in the surrounding pipes possess a major risk. Since these tanks store huge amounts of the fluid among all the liquid hydrogen process facilities, there is a high risk of leakage-related accidents. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a risk assessment of liquid hydrogen leakage for a grid-type liquid hydrogen storage tank (lattice-type pressure vessel (LPV): 18 m3) that overcame the low space efficiency of the existing pressure vessel shape. Through a commercially developed three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics program, the geometry of the site, where the liquid hydrogen storage tank will be installed, was obtained and simulations of the leakage scenarios for each situation were performed. From the computational flow analysis results, the pool formation behavior in the event of liquid hydrogen leakage was identified, and the resulting damage range was predicted.

LPG-DME 성층혼합 압축착화 엔진 (LPG-DME Stratified Charge Compression Ignition Engine)

  • The combustion characteristics of a liquefied petroleum gas-di-methyl ether (LPG-DME) compression ignition engine was investigated under homogeneous charge and stratified charge conditions. LPG was used as the main fuel and injected into the combustion chamber directly. DME was used as an ignition promoter and injected into the intake port. Different LPG injection timings were tested to verify the combustion characteristics of the LPG-DME compression ignition engine. The combustion was divided into three region which are homogeneous charge, stratified charge, and diffusion flame region according to the injection timing of LPG. The hydrocarbon emission of stratified charge combustion was lower than that of homogeneous charge combustion. However, the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emission of stratified charge combustion were slightly higher than those of the homogeneous charge region. The indicated mean effective pressure was reduced at stratified charge region, while it was almost same level as the homogeneous charge combustion region at diffusion combustion region. The start of combustion timing of the stratified charge combustion and diffusion combustion region were advanced compared to the homogeneous charge combustion. It attributed to the higher cetane number and mixture temperature distribution which locally stratified. However, the knock intensity was varied as the homogeneity of charge was increased.
