  • Social network games (SNGs), a rapidly growing online game genre, are built and played on social network sites. SNGs provide an online world for enjoying leisure time and interpersonal communication, and an increasing numbers of college students are involved in such game-playing as a leisure time activity. Despite the popularity, relatively few studies have been conducted to investigate the nature of game players, especially the meaning of such leisure time behavior by college students. This paper's aim was to explore a subjective meaning structure of online social network game play. The means-end chain model was used to link attributes of SNGs to the underlying values of game playing as a leisure activity. The results revealed two emerging end-values: the need for bridging and a sense of belonging. This study sheds light on the meaning of college students' leisure activities when playing social network games.

Because large number of players interacts with each other, virtual worlds in MMORPG are alike communities of real worlds. Moreover, players in virtual worlds trade game items with real money. This paper is to find impacts of real-money trading into real worlds, and game operators, by using two-period model between players of the game and the game operator. It was found that real-money trading benefits game operators, and there exists optimal supply of game items to maximize the profit of game operator. Moreover we found that the income disparity in real worlds could be decreased when real-money trading is allowed To support the analytical model, we used an empirical analysis using real-money trading data, and find the relationship among play time of MMORPG, transaction volume of real-money trading, and price of game items. In empirical analysis, it was found that real-money trading benefits game operators. Moreover, it was found that play time and price have positive relationship.

  • Oculus Rift is the most universal VR (virtual Reality) headset for gamers and FPS (First Person Shooting) is the most suitable game genre to play with VR. Using VR can increase the player's sense of reality and make them feel as though they are in direct contact with the enemy while battling. The suggested VR game is a first person game where the player must defend a specific target against the surging enemy all within the time limit. Many objects will need to be used in this method. Object pooling will be used in order to manage all the numerous objects. When an object is repeatedly created and deleted it typically overwhelms the memory. To resolve this issue the game initially summons the object at the beginning of the scene and afterwards only uses the object when needed, lessening the burden on the memory. A ranking system is implemented to keep the game records in order to stimulate a competitive spirit between the players, and the game has received positive response during test play among college students in their 20s.

  • A battle royale game is a multiplayer video game genre that blends the survival and exploration with last-man-standing gameplay. The genre has been hot in recent years and the 'Player Unknown's Battleground' produced by Korean enterprise PUBG had been the hottest during 2017 and the first half of 2018. However, a similar battle royale game 'Fortnite' became the game of the year in 2018 and the Player Unknown's Battleground sustains the predominance only in Korea and China. In this paper, we investigate the game structure of those two games on combat, survival, farming and charging elements, We also conduct a user survey on what might be the weak point of the Player Unknown's Battleground and why they choose Fornite among users played both but currently play Fortnite. The result shows that the Player Unknown's Battleground sustains the advantage on battle elements but creative charging policy and the efficient survival elements are the reasons of choosing Fortnite between the two.
