A study on the gain-scheduling of missile autopilot (유도탄 제어기의 이득-스케듈링에 관한 연구)

  • A method of autopilot gain-scheduling is presented for missiles which have heavy aerodynamic coupling between pitch and yaw channels due to high maneuverability. Pitch and yaw, autopilot are cross-coupled, and their feedback gains are scheduled by total acceleration and bank angle for given Mach number and height. Bank angle information is obtained by using a simple estimator. By computer simulation, it is shown that the proposed method is superior to other existing methods.

  • In an OFDMA system the performance of multi-user scheduling in the frequency domain is affected by the frequency selectivity of the channel. If the channel is too flat in the frequency domain, the multi-user scheduling gain might be degraded. On the contrary, if the frequency selectivity is too high and the magnitude of the frequency response severely fluctuates on the allocation bandwidth, it is also hard to get sufficient scheduling gain. For maximizing the multi-user scheduling gain, a cyclic delay diversity technique can be used to adjust the frequency selectivity of the channel. This paper proposes a method to determine the optimal delay value of cyclic delay diversity according to the allocation bandwidth and the channel characteristics.

A New Gain Scheduled QFT Method Based on Neural Networks for Linear Time-Varying System (선형 시변시스템을 위한 신경망 기반의 새로운 이득계획 QFT 기법)

  • The properties of linear time-varying(LTV) systems vary because of the time-varying property of plant parameters. The generalized controller design method for linear time-varying systems does not exit because the analytic soultion of dynamic equation has not been found yet. Hence, to design a controller for LTV systems, the robust control methods for uncertain LTI systems which are the approximation of LTV systems have been generally ised omstead. However, these methods are not sufficient to reflect the fast dynamics of the original time-varying systems such as missiles and supersonic aircraft. In general, both the performance and the robustness of the control system which is designed with these are not satisfactory. In addition, since a better model will give the more robustness to the controlled system, a gain scheduling technique based on LTI controller design methods has been uesd to solve time problem. Therefore, we propose a new gain scheduled QFT method for LTV systems based on neural networks in this paper. The gain scheduled QFT involves gain dcheduling procedured which are the first trial for QFT and are well suited consideration of the properties of the existing QFT method. The proposed method is illustrated by a numerical example.

  • In a networked control system (NCS), time delays which are larger than one sampling period can change the control period. As a result, it may cause system instability. This paper presents a control method for an NCS using the controller area network (CAN), where time delays arise in the control loop. Specifically, a simple yet efficient method is proposed to improve control performance in the presence of time delays. The proposed method, which can be regarded as a gain scheduling method, selects a suitable LQ control gain among several gains to deal with the problems due to the change of control period. It is found that the gain can be scheduled in terms of the relation between the gain and the sampling period, which is represented by first-order algebraic equations. The proposed method is evaluated with an inverted cart pendulum system where the actuator and sensors are connected through the CAN. Experiment results are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method.

Fuzzy gain scheduling for the gain tuning of PID controller and its application (PID 제어기의 게인 조절을 위한 퍼지 게인 스케쥴링 기법 및 응용)

  • In this paper, a gain scheduling method of PID controller is proposed using fuzzy logic for balancing control of an inverted pendulum. First, gains of PID controller are calculated using pole-placement technique for the linearized model of an inverted pendulum and these gains are modified by fuzzy logic throughout control operations. A PD controller is used by switching near the set-point to improve the performance. It is illustrated by simulations that the proposed hybrid fuzzy control method yidels smaller rising time and overshoot compared to the fixed-gain PID controller or fuzzy logic-based only PID controller.

  • The mobile robot is one of the widely-used systems in service industry. We propose a gain-scheduling feedback controller for the tracking control of the mobile robot. The benefit of our proposed controller is that it avoids the singularity issue occurs with the controllers suggested in [4], [10]. Moreover, we show the stability analysis of the controlled system via a Lyapunov stability approach such that the exponential convergence of tracking error to zero is analytically provided. The simulation results show the validity of the proposed controller and improved control performance over the conventional controller.

  • This paper proposes a stable gain scheduling method of linear time invariant controllers for tracking servo system. In order to read and write the data on the optical disc, the pick-up head should be moved to the exact track quickly and follow the track immediately. Two different controllers are used for each moving and track-following. In pull-in period, a transition period from moving to track-following, the head might slip and miss the target track. This brings on another searching process and increases the total time. One way to avoid slipping is to extend the bandwidth of the track-following controller. But, extending the bandwidth could degrade the following performance. More prevalent way is to use one more controller in this pull-in period and switch to the following controller. In general, however, switching or scheduling of stable controllers cannot guarantee the stability. This paper suggests an scheduling method guaranteeing the overall stability not only in a generalized form but also in special form for SISO system. The sufficient condition is derived from the fact that Q factor of a stable controller should be stay in $RH_{\infty}$ space. In the experiment, the proposed method shows better performance than the switching method such as shorter time and lower current consumption.

Robust Gain Scheduling Based on Fuzzy Logic Control and LMI Methods (퍼지논리제어와 LMI기법을 이용한 강인 게인 스케줄링)

  • This paper proposes a practical gain-scheduling control law considering robust stability and performance of Linear Parameter Varying(LPV) systems in the presence of nonlinearities and uncertainties. The proposed method introduces LMI-based pole placement synthesis and also associates with a recently developed fuzzy control system based on Takagei-Sugenos fuzzy model. The sufficient conditions for robust controller design of linearized local dynamics and robust stabilization of fuzzy control systems are reduced to a finite set of Linear Matrix inequalities(LMIs) and solved by using co-evolutionary algorithms. The proposed method is applied to the longitudinal acceleration control of high performance aircraft with linear and nonlinear simulations.

  • Recent years have witnessed a growing demand for a wide variety of high-performance industrial robots. In this paper, for accurate gain tuning of a 6-axis articulated industrial robot with reduced noise, a program routine for a dynamic signal analyzer (DSA) using the frequency response method will be programmed using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. Then, robot transfer functions can be obtained experimentally using the frequency response method with the DSA program. Data from the robot transfer functions are transformed into Bode plots, based on which an optimal gain tuning will be executed. Gain tuning can enhance the response quality of the output signal for a given input signal during real-time control of the robot. The effectiveness of our proposed technique will be verified by implementation with a (lab-manufactured) 6-axis articulated industrial robot (hereinafter called "RS2") and comparison with the zero position gain tuning, as well as other positions.

Gain-scheduling of Acceleration Estimator for Low-velocity Measurement with Encoders

  • In most of motor-driven motion control systems, an encoder is used to measure a position of the motor and the velocity information is obtained by measuring the position increment over a sampling period. The quantization effect due to limited resolution of the encoder induces some measurement errors, and consequently causes deterioration of the motion performance especially in low velocity. In this paper, we propose a gain-scheduled acceleration estimator which works in wider velocity range than the original acceleration estimator. We investigate and analyze characteristics of the velocity measurement mechanism which takes into account the quantization effect of the encoder. Next, we introduce the acceleration estimator and propose a gain-scheduled acceleration estimator. The bandwidth of the gain-scheduled acceleration estimator is automatically adjusted by the velocity command. Finally, its performance is evaluated by simulation and experiment, and the results are compared with those of a conventional method and the original acceleration estimator.
