In this paper, we propose a scalable coding method for high dynamic range (HDR) and standard dynamic range (SDR) videos based on Scalable High Efficiency Video Coding (SHVC). The proposed method has multi-layer coding architecture that consists of base layer for SDR videos and enhancement layer for HDR videos to support the backward compatibility with legacy codec and display devices. Also, to improve coding efficiency of enhancement layers, a global inverse tone mapping is applied to the reconstructed SDR video and the compensated frames are referred for coding of the enhancement layer. The proposed method is found to achieve BD-Rate gain of 43.0% on average (maximum 76.3%) for the enhancement layer and 15.7% on average (maximum 31%) for dual-layer against the SHM 7.0 reference software.
In the present study, oblique L-shaped monopole slot antenna with broadband characteristic is newly proposed. For bandwidth enhancement as well as size reduction, L-shaped slot with two open-terminations on the ground edge is used. The lower part of L-shaped slot comprises oblique form for bandwidth enhancement in low frequency band, whereas its higher part comprise tapered form for its enhancement in high frequency band. The short-circuit terminated microstrip line which is generally known to be more useful for bandwidth enhancement than open-circuit termination is used. The measured impedance bandwidth($S_{11}{\leq}-10dB$) and gain of the fabricated antenna have been observed to be 4.72 GHz (2.28~7 GHz) and more than 3dBi over the passband respectively.

A variable-gain low-voltage low noise amplifier MMIC operating at 5GHz frequency band is designed and implemented using the ETRI 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ GaAs MESFET library process. This low noise amplifier is designed to have the variable gain for adaptive antenna array combined in HIPERLAN/2. The feedback circuit of a resistor and channel resistance controlled by the gate voltage of enhancement MESFET is proposed for the variable-gain low noise amplifier consisted of cascaded two stages. The fabricated variable gain amplifier exhibits 5.5GHz center frequency, 14.7dB small signal gain, 10.6dB input return loss, 10.7dB output return loss, 14.4dB variable gain, and 2.98dB noise figure at V$\_$DD/=1.5V, V$\_$GGl/=0.4V, and V$\_$GG2/=0.5V. This low noise amplifier also shows-19.7dBm input PldB, -10dBm IIP3, 52.6dB SFDR, and 9.5mW power consumption.
In this paper, a gain-adapted speech recognition method in noise is developed in the time domain. Noise is assumed to be colored. To cope with the notable nonstationary nature of speech signals such as fricative, glides, liquids, and transition region between phones, the nonstationary autoregressive (NAR) hidden Markov model (HMM) is used. The nonstationary AR process is represented by using polynomial functions with a linear combination of M known basis functions. When only noisy signals are available, the estimation problem of noise inevitably arises. By using multiple Kalman filters, the estimation of noise model and gain contour of speech is performed. Noise estimation of the proposed method can eliminate noise from noisy speech to get an enhanced speech signal. Compared to the conventional ARHMM with noise estimation, our proposed NAR-HMM with noise estimation improves the recognition performance about 2-3%.

We present various optimal grating structures which give the low threshold gain, good modulation characteristics, small effective linewidth enhancement factor, and large fabrication tolerance in complex-coupled MQW DFB lasers with absorptive gratings. To obtain these, we calculate the complex coupling coefficients using the extended additional layer method and the threshold gain including the modal loss in the absorptive grating region for rectangular and trapezoidal gratings. Based on the comparison of the results for various possible absorptive grating structures, the design guidelines are presented to obtain the low threshold gain or large fabrication tolerance. Among the grating structures studied, the double grating structure consisting of the absorptive grating on the index grating has the largest fabrication tolerance for the threshold gain and the coupling strength. The fabrication tolerance for the coupling ratio is very large for all the grating structures studied.

In this paper, a new subcarrier-based handover scheme which exploits different channel gains of subcarriers in downlink OFDMA cellular systems. In this handover scheme, mobile users can obtain diversity gain by subcarrier selection. Feedback for unselected subcarriers reduces interference. The capacity enhancement by the handover scheme is originated from the following two characteristics of OFDMA systems. One is that interference per subcarrier is proportional to the traffic load. The other is that every subcarrier has different channel gain ?? 새 the Rayleigh fading channel. Therefore, selecting subcarriers with stronger channel gains results in diversity gain. Simulation results confirm that the proposed handover scheme improves the capacity of the OFDMA systems by reducing 24 percentage of the outage probability.

CMOS variable gain amplifier (VGA) IC designs for the structure monitoring systems of the telemetries were developed. A three stage cascaded VGA using a differential amplifier and a linear-in-dB controller is presented. A proposed VGA is a modified version of a conventional VGA such that the gain is controlled in a linear-in-dB fashion through the current ratio. The proposed VGA circuit introduced in this paper has a dynamic range of 77 dB with 1.5 dB gain steps. It also achieved a gain error of less than 1.5 dB over 77 dB gain range. The VGA can operate up to 10MHz dissipating 13.8 mW from a single 1.8 V supply. The core area of the VGA fabricated in a Magnachip $0.18{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process was about $430{\mu}m{\times}350{\mu}m$. According to measurement results, we can verify that the proposed method is reasonable with regard to the enhancement of dynamic range and the better linear-in-dB characteristics.
Solar assisted heat pump system uses solar thermal energy as a heat source of evaporator of heat pump. So, COP can be enhanced as well as collector efficiency. For improving performance of this system, some research about hybrid solar collector that has fin-and-tube heat exchanger has been conducted. This collector can get a thermal energy from ambient air for liquid heating, so heated liquid can be used as a heat source of evaporator in heat pump even the solar radiation is not enough. In this study, numerical analysis was conducted for confirming heat gain of liquid according to fin height and pitch of fin-and-tube heat exchanger in collector. As a result, higher heat gain was obtained on lower fin height and narrow fin pitch, but the pressure drop also increased with increment of heat gain. Thus the JF factor considering both heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop was investigated and the maximum value was shown when the fin height and pitch were 40mm and 45mm. So it is considered that this installation condition has a highest heat transfer improvement when comparing with pressure drop. However heat gain of liquid at this condition was less than the other installation conditions of fin pitch on same height. Then, after establishing a proper minimum heat gain of liquid, actual production and experiment of collector will be conducted with fin height and pitch showing maximum JF factor and satisfying selected minimum heat gain of liquid on the basis of results of this study.

This study was performed to demonstrate the effect of linear or nonlinear contrast enhancement on subtraction images. Three different textures were radiograped on dental film. The first radiograph was taken without the presence of an object. the second, which showed trabucular bone, was taken of the molar area of a human. the third radiograph was taken of the coronal part of molars. Each film was digitized into a 1312 x 1024 pixel x 8 bit depth matrix by means of a Nikon 35 mm film scanner(LS-3510AF, Japan) with fixed gain and internal dark current correction to maintain constant illumination. The scanner was interfaced to a Macintosh Le ill computer(Apple Computer, Charlotte, N.C) This resulted in three pairs of images, including different textures-plain, bone and enamel. Digital regular, linearly and nonlinearly enhanced subtraction was performed. Computer software was ,used to simulate lesions in the shape of a 2D-Gaussian curve on each of a pair of images. The each subtraction images were presented in a random sequence to two groups of 10 observers(students and dentists). ROC analysis was used to compare observer performance. The following results were obtained ; 1. All of LCE subtraction, equalized subtraction and regular subtraction images of plain texture were diagnosed the best by far. 2. The data revealed a siginificant LCE effect in both the student group and the expert group. 3. Clinical expertise was a helphul factor for the observers in this study.

In this paper, we propose a new guidance law for target observability enhancement, which can control both terminal impact angle and acceleration. The proposed guidance law is simple form, combined conventional time-to-go polynomial guidance and a additional bias term which consists of relative position and proportional gain. The guidance law provides oscillatory flight trajectory and it maintains the conventional time-to-go polynomial guidance performance. To investigate the characteristics of the guidance law, we derive the closed-form solution, and various simulations are performed for proving the validity of the proposed guidance.
