Yellow poplar is well known commercial hardwood species in the world because of its availability, rapid growth, large size, excellent form, early natural pruning, and the good working quality of the wood. Therefore, yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.) has been adopted in South Korea for decades ago, and its cultivating the saplings and silvicultural system have been studied. However, yellow poplar is still embroiled in controversy for utilization of use and worth. This species has not only advantages such as lower weight, light color, and higher machinability and bending processing, but also has disadvantages which are bad smell and different colors on heartwood and sapwood. In this study, the objective was that use of yellow poplar board as furniture materials by drying and painting process. Thirty years old yellow poplar was cut and dried for 7 days by high-frequency dryness. Adjustment of color tone to walnut color was conducted with multiple colorants and various number of spread times. Uniform color of yellow poplar on heartwood and sapwood was accomplished by applying 1 time stain (green), 2 times transparent primer, 1 time middle-painting (walnut), and 2 times top-painting (walnut) in sequentially. The painted yellow poplar board was used to manufacture table and dressing table. During the furniture manufacture process, no critical issues were occurred on part of jointing and painting. This painting method may be useful data for future use of yellow poplar as furniture materials.

This study purposed to grasp the Design Characteristic of the representative Furnitures produced recently by Domestic Furniture Manufacturers. As for the researching method, setting as the object of the selected 7 furniture manufacturers, through the regional classification such as living room, bedroom, dining room, and then chose again the 395 items of furnitures to be analyzed. The Design Characteristic of the chosen furnitures has been examined clearly by the analysis standard framework for those peculiarities at view of aesthetic, decorating and material. As the result of analysis, as for the aesthetic Peculiarity of the furnitures, the rectilinear form was overwhelming than the curve lined shape, and it was appeared that the brighter tone of color was used quite more. In the respect of aesthetic characteristic, the furnitures decorated with modern style is pretty gaining predominance than that of reflected style of traditional character, and since modern residential space has been maintained continuously as minimal shaped trend for several years, it could be known that such moulding and decorating peculiarities and also furniture as the composing factor of space had been selected together with it. Based on such conclusion, standing on this time point where the design trend of residential space is being changed, it is also considered that the Development of Furniture Design which copes positively with such change tendency in the future.

In modern society, designers started feeling moral and social responsibility in the aspect of environment as a position of suggesting something new. Rather than creating another waste to make something innovative, the concept of Upcycling which is about adding design or utilization to the existing recyclable materials to raise their value to products or art works has started settling down. Among them, there have been various researches on the use of offcut waste to be dumped. Such use of waste can be found in Jogakbo (patchwork), one of our traditional boudoir crafts. This could be connected to the concept of the modern Upcycling in the aspect of giving new values to the wasted pieces of fabric through needlework. Therefore, this study suggested Stitch work as new Upcycling furniture by seeking for the common connections between Upcycling and traditional Jogakbo, and then reinterpreting them in the same viewpoint. It was an opportunity not only to rediscover 'the esthetics of waste' by changing the awareness of 'behavior of dumping', but also to reinterpret or reconsider the tradition. Based on this, it is expected to continuously have new attempts to use offcut waste for eco-friendly design in the future, and also to have opportunities to seek for new directions of Upcycling to rediscover new values through the revaluation of valuelessness.

본 연구는 1인 가구를 위한 스마트 가구의 필요성을 인식하여 연구 대상 분석 후 최종 디자인까지 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 모든 연구는 1인 가구 중 주도적인 가구 및 스마트 기기 소비 행태를 보여주는 20대 독신 여성을 중심으로 한다. 기존 국내 화장대의 편향된 디자인과 인식을 고찰하며 해외 화장대와 스마트 가구의 긍정적 사례를 살펴본다. 다음으로 스마트 화장대에 대한 소비자 니즈 파악을 위해 예비 설문조사를 진행한다. 설문 진행 후 스마트 혁신 특징을 갖는 대상에 한해 심층 인터뷰를 진행하여 화장대와 융합할 스마트 기술 선호도와 개선사항을 정리한다. 이를 바탕으로 임의의 페르소나 정립 후 대상이 갖는 스마트 화장대에 대한 니즈를 해결한 가상의 시나리오를 제시한다. 결론으로 1인 가구를 위한 스마트 화장대에 적용할 스마트 기술의 우선순위와 최종 디자인을 제안한다. 소비자의 강한 혁신으로 스마트 가구의 필요성을 절감하는 시대에 위와 같은 제안은 미래의 1인 가구를 위한 스마트 화장대 산업 발전에 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

The blur phenomenon obscuring the boundary between the field of designers and that of users may be the key paradigm in the 21st century. However, we observed a number of chair design cases that could be considered as the results of blur pheonomenon in the furniture design field from mid 1960s. The backgrounds include the repulsion against the uniform functionalism, deliberation on the life in the future and the development of plastic materials and their processing methods. Under such backgrounds, the designers pursued the new and futuristic furniture design. In that process, what is about the "freedom" that the consumers as well as the designers should have in using the furniture was the important concept. This concept enabled the creation of chair design inducing the participation of consumers. They created various kinds of shapes, functions and structures that the consumers became interested in as if they had fun with toy blocks by mainly using the new material "plastic". In a formative aspect, the entire shape is classified into the organic shape and geometric shape. The unit types are divided into two kinds; type that the unit of simple shape is repeated only with size difference and irregular combination type of the units comprised of more than two shapes. In the functional aspect, some cases showed the transformation and expansion of the function more variously. Other cases changed the function of chairs to tables, cabinets, or objects. In the structural aspect, on the basis of the method assembling each unit, one method is to assemble using the hardware and the other is to assemble only with intrinsic units of chair. The chair design created by the blur phenomenon between the designers and the users as described above causes the blur phenomenon between the furniture and the space where the furniture is installed. Accordingly, it is expanding the furniture design sphere including the case that the furniture is not selected as the rifle article depending on the characteristics of interior space but it becomes the element leading the characteristics of space. This study aims to estimate the change of interior space and the furniture that my cause the blur phenomenon by examining the cases above appropriate for the paradigm of the 21st century. Furthermore, this study will enable the discussion oil the directions of future furniture design based on its results.

Modular furniture's colors, materials, finishing materials and quantities are determined by users' tastes and it's diverse functions, shapes and sizes are determined by the spaces of users. That is, modules satisfy the diversity of consumers, meet differentiated individuals' tastes and enable communications with consumers rather than delivering one-way messages of designers. The contemporary spaces of the 21st century have been gradually shifting from uniform spaces attaching weight on individuals' individuality and tastes and along with it, the consumption of expensive custom-made furniture and foreign branded furniture is increasing to satisfy those small numbers of consumers who want to express diversified individuality. The modular furniture as a concept which is the most suitable to Mass Customization can be produced in large quantities while considering the diverse needs and tastes of individuals and it does not have absolute shapes or sizes. The concept of modular furniture shows similarities to the creation of fractals that forms shapes by self similarities, repeats and similar transformations which is in the same context as the characteristics of a modular design that presents diversity with scales, materials and jointing points. Fractals will be combined with the digital media of today to present great plasticity and influence designers more heavily. Pursuit of new modeling is a requisite for the creation of future spaces and it will require continuous creativity and the transformable modular furniture will contribute to the satisfaction of diverse consumers' needs. This study is to propose the modular furniture that considers the diversity of the public in the 21st century and their individuality and that will enable interactions between designers and consumers.

In this paper, the research is carried out about a couch, a horse foot chair, a horse foot table, and a multi-leg table among the furniture of Koguryeo. The couch had been widely used from the Chinese Han Dynasty, and the couch of the Koguryeo was influenced by that of Han. The couch of Koguryeo was a piece of furniture which was used not only for sitting purposes but also for symbolizing status ranking. The horse foot chair is a chair whose leg is finished with a horse foot shape, and is a relic which shows an aspect of the art exchange between the East and the West, appearing in Egypt and Mesopotamia, having influence on chairs of Greece and Rome, and being introduced into Koguryeo and Japan by way of the countries bordering on Western China and China. The horse foot chair was used by the royalty, the aristocracy and the priesthood, and use of the chair at that time reflects the effect of Buddhist culture. The horse foot table is a piece of furniture whose leg is finished with a horse foot shape as in the horse foot chair, and there are many instances that it is used together with the horse foot chair. The multi-leg table is configured to have a square plate, plural legs and footstool, and is used by the upper classes, being also influenced by China. In this paper, the study about the furniture of Koguryeo, which has not been closely considered up to now, is performed, and is important as a study about origin of Korean furniture. In the future, the research about succession of the furniture of Koguryo to that of Koryeo period should be carried out, and much more research material be investigated.

Wood cutting utilizing CNC art in the field of furniture design industry, art, education are diverse. However, there is lack of data in the case for wood cutting, such as cutting conditions and wood cutting. So this article is to establish furniture design processing using CNC. The researchers investigated the processed products using CNC, the data of the web site and CNC relevant articles, then organized its impact on the furniture industry today. History and definition of CNC have studied for a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages. Then, the researchers analyzed the cases to investigate the wood cutting conditions, was applied to the fabrication of furniture domestic and foreign. CNC organized systematically design information through the computer So, it allowed to reduce the repetitive behavior that has to work hand in the furniture manufacture existing. CNC has made it possible to design a fine complex in furniture design industry. So it became possible to make a new representation and production of various forms. Material about CNC are mostly for milling machine and shelves for metal processing. So, the researchers investigated and precautions general content of wood cutting. The enhanced understanding to investigate an example that is applied outside the country, is used to analyze the expression various techniques CNC. It is difficult to obtain accurate data processing, it has various characteristics in the same timber, Future research is about analyzing type applications and CNC machining range at the time of processing the various wood.

과학기술의 발달과 생활양식의 변화로 인해 주택의 역할은 가족구성원들을 위한 생활공간 뿐 아니라 사무실을 대신하는 업무공간으로 확장되고 있으며, 그에 따라 업무에 필요한 기기나 물품들은 편리하게 사용하고 수납하기 위한 재택 근무가구의 수요도 증가하고 있다. 이 연구에서는 선행 개발된 재택 근무 공간 및 가구에 대한 지침과 연구결과를 바탕으로 하여, 기능적인 측면에서는 편리하고 효율적인 작업이 가능하고 형태적인 측면에서는 주택이라는 특성에 부합하는 다음과 같은 가구의 디자인을 개발하였다. 1. 패널부착형 조합가구 : 가변성과 확장성을 기본개념으로 하여 원하는 형태와 크기의 unit를 다양하게 조합할 수 있는 시스템 가구 2. 캐비넷 형 워크스테이션 : 하나의 가구에 재택 무에 필요한 기능을 집약시켜 최소한의 공간으로 최대의 효율성을 추구하는 가구 3. 이동식 다목적 가구 : 간단한 작업이나 보조기능을 위한 이동성이 뛰어난 가구 재택 근무는 시간과 공간의 효율성으로 인해 미래의 업무 형태로 발전될 가능성이 크며, 따라서 보다 다양한 기능과 형태를 지니는 디자인의 지속적인 개발이 요구된다.

This paper analyzed the modern trends and the present state of kitchen furniture and electric appliances depending on the advancement in IOT technology, in order to contribute to seeking a method of approaching consumers as an effective way for kitchen furniture and electric appliance companies to develop IOT products. Prior to analysis, the chronological transitions of Korean kitchen furniture and examined the effects of Korea's own emotions and characteristics on modern kitchen. For this study, the changes in Korean kitchen space were explored, based on previous studies, recent trend magazines, articles and professional books and the trends of modern kitchen furniture were observed. Also, the concept of IOT technology was considered and then the tendencies of modern IOT kitchen furniture and electric appliances were analyzed. The case study targeted the recent three-year trends of two types of domestic kitchen furniture and small-sized IOT kitchen electric appliances, which are sold, or have been introduced on foreign online stores and have been unveiled at CES Electric Appliances Exhibition. As a result of the study, it was found that many foreign countries, including the US have been developing various IOT kitchen electric appliances. The enterprise concept is to change kitchen with their IOT products, not changing future kitchen with IOT technology. This implies that approaches to product development may change. Moreover, it was recognized that for kitchen design, characteristics of product users need to be considered, according to Korean ideology.
