The ultimate goal of human assisted reproductive technology is to achieve a healthy pregnancy and birth, ideally from the selection and transfer of a single competent embryo. Recently, techniques for efficiently evaluating the state and quality of preimplantation embryos using time-lapse imaging systems have been applied. Artificial intelligence programs based on deep learning technology and big data analysis of time-lapse monitoring system during in vitro culture of preimplantation embryos have also been rapidly developed. In addition, several molecular markers of the secretome have been successfully analyzed in spent embryo culture media, which could easily be obtained during in vitro embryo culture. It is also possible to analyze small amounts of cell-free nucleic acids, mitochondrial nucleic acids, miRNA, and long non-coding RNA derived from embryos using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or digital PCR, as well as next-generation sequencing. Various efforts are being made to use non-invasive evaluation of embryo quality (NiEEQ) to select the embryo with the best developmental competence. However, each NiEEQ method has some limitations that should be evaluated case by case. Therefore, an integrated analysis strategy fusing several NiEEQ methods should be urgently developed and confirmed by proper clinical trials.

Audiovisual-based human emotion recognition can be considered a good approach for multimodal humancomputer interaction. However, the optimal multimodal information fusion remains challenges. In order to overcome the limitations and bring robustness to the interface, we propose a framework of automatic human emotion recognition system from speech and face display. In this paper, we develop a new approach for fusing information in model-level based on the relationship between speech and face expression to detect automatic temporal segments and perform multimodal information fusion.
Indoor localization for pedestrian is the key technology for caring the elderly, the visually impaired and the handicapped in health care districts. It also becomes essential for the emergency responders where the GPS signal is not available. This paper presents newly developed pedestrian localization system using the gyro sensors, the magnetic compass and pressure sensors. Instead of using the accelerometer, the pedestrian gait is estimated from the gyro sensor measurements and the travel distance is estimated based on the gait kinematics. Fusing the gyro information and the magnetic compass information for heading angle estimation is presented with the error covariance analysis. A pressure sensor is used to identify the floor the pedestrian is walking on. A complete ambulatory system is implemented which estimates the pedestrian's 3D position and the heading.
This paper proposes a new approach to palmprint verification based on the gradient, in which a palm image is considered to be a three-dimensional terrain. Principal lines and wrinkles make deep and shallow valleys on a palm landscape. Then the steepest slope direction in each local area is first computed using the Kirsch operator, after which an orientation map is created that represents the dominant slope direction of each pixel. In this study, three orientation maps were made with different scales to represent local and global gradient information. Next, feature matching based on pixel-unit comparison was performed. The experimental results showed that the proposed method is superior to several state-of-the-art methods. In addition, the verification could be greatly improved by fusing orientation maps with different scales.
In this research, we investigated the cleanliness by optimizing the water content of the aqueous stripper in fluidic strip process. The stripping properties of the photoresist with optimized aqueous stripper were compared with the commercial organic stripper. The stripping performance was evaluated by electrical and optical characteristics on the surface of the transparent electrode that compare with stripped the transparent electrode surface and the rare surface before patterning by the photoresist. As a result of the photoresist stripping process of the organic stripper and the aqueous stripper optimized for water content, the aqueous stripper exhibited better electrical and optical characteristics than the organic stripper. In the case of the fluidic strip process with organic stripper, the photoresist dissolves in the stripper solution during stripping which can cause re-adsorption by contamination. Whereas that the aqueous stripper under development seems to decrease the photoresist dissolution in the stripper solution. Because the cyclodextrin contained in the stripper captures organic photoresist into hall of cyclodextrin which stripped through swelling and tearing. The photoresist residue captured by the cyclodextrin can be filtered. After the fluidic stripping process by different chemical stripping mechanism, the cleanliness of the organic stripper and aqueous stripper was compared and analyzed.
The indirect displacement estimation using acceleration and strain (IDEAS) method is extended to various types of beam structures beyond the previous validation on the prismatic or near-prismatic beams. By fusing different types of responses, the IDEAS method is able to estimate displacements containing pseudo-static components with high frequency noise to be significantly reduced. However, the concerns to the IDEAS method come from possible disagreement of the assumed sinusoidal mode shapes to the actual mode shapes, which allows the IDEAS method to be valid only for simply-supported prismatic beams and limits its applicability to real world problems. In this paper, the extension of the IDEAS method to the general types of beams is investigated by the mathematical formulation of the modal mapping matrix only for the monitored substructure, so-called monitoring span. The formulation particularly considers continuous and wide beams to extend the IDEAS method to general beam structures that reflect many real bridges. Numerical simulations using four types of beams with various irregularities are presented to show the effectiveness and accuracy of the IDEAS method in estimating displacements.

Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) combined with attention mechanism is extensively used to generate semantic sentences of images in image captioning models. However, features of salient regions and spatial information are not utilized sufficiently in most related works. Meanwhile, the LSTM also suffers from the problem of underutilized information in a single time step. In the paper, two innovative approaches are proposed to solve these problems. First, the Synergy-Gated Attention (SGA) method is proposed, which can process the spatial features and the salient region features of given images simultaneously. SGA establishes a gated mechanism through the global features to guide the interaction of information between these two features. Then, the Recurrent Fusion LSTM (RF-LSTM) mechanism is proposed, which can predict the next hidden vectors in one time step and improve linguistic coherence by fusing future information. Experimental results on the benchmark dataset of MSCOCO show that compared with the state-of-the-art methods, the proposed method can improve the performance of image captioning model, and achieve competitive performance on multiple evaluation indicators.

In this paper, we propose a fusion classification method combining HRRP and JEM classifier with complementary properties for the classification of aircraft. The fusion method is based on the confidence of a classifier for a classification result to improve performance compared with single classifier in various situations. The confidence is defined as the posterior probability estimated from the classification performance of a classifier and it depends on the aspect angle and the certainty for a classification result. Through the classification test using simulation data, we can verify that the proposed fusion method shows good performance by fusing the classifiers effectively.
A method was developed for the controlled expression of an antimicrobial peptide magainin in Escherichia coli. A series of concatemeric magainin genes was constructed with a gene amplification vector, and fused to the 3'end of malE gene encoding the affinity ligand, E. coli maltose-binding protein (MBP). The construct directed the synthesis of the fusion protein with the magainin polypeptide fused to the C-terminus of MBP. The fusion protein was expressed in a tightly regulatable expression system which was under the control of an invertible promoter. The MBP-fused magainin monomer was expressed efficiently. However, the expression level of the MBP-fused magainin in E. coli decreased with the increasing size of multimers possibly because of the transcription and translation inhibition by the multimeric peptides. After purification using an amylose affinity column, the fusion protein was digested by factor Xa at a specific cleavage site between the monomers. The recombinant magainin had an antimicrobial activity identical to that of synthetic magainin. This experiment shows that a biologically active, antimicrobial peptide magainin can be produced by fusing to MBP, along with a promoter inversion vector system.
Microbial whole-cell biosensors can be excellent analytical tools for monitoring environmental pollutants. They are constructed by fusing reporter genes (e.g., lux, gfp or lacZ) to inducible regulatory genes which are responsive to the relevant pollutants, such as aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals. A large spectrum of microbial biosensors has been developed using recombinant DNA technology and applied in fields as diverse as environmental monitoring, medicine, food processing, agriculture, and defense. Furthermore, their sensitivity and target range could be improved by modification of regulatory genes. Recently, microbial biosensor cells have been immobilized on chips, optic fibers, and other platforms of high-throughput cell arrays. This paper reviews recent advances and future trends of genetically modified microbial biosensors used for monitoring of specific environmental pollutants.
