The interest and expenditure for children is increasing than in the past because the number of nuclear family is growing, the children's space is configured independently in most homes from infancy, therefore, the market of children's furniture is expanding in spite of the reduction in the population of children. There are not many products considering age, gender, and play behavior in children's furniture market in Korea. The bed, desk, chair, and closet for children under 2 years hold a large majority of children's furniture, there are not a lot of preschool children's furniture for the children aged 4 to 7. As the children aged 4 to 7 experience physical, emotional, and cognitive growth at the same time, the space configuration and furniture choice for these children is educationally very important. Therefore, in this study, we present the importance and necessity of playable furniture to promote the physical, social, emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development of the children aged 4 to 7 among preschool children. We found the concept and basic condition of playable furniture to collect the base data for developing playable furniture and provided the basic data for the development of an ideal playable furniture by comparing and analyzing the cases of 157 items of 14 domestic playable furniture companies and 365 items of 30 overseas in aspect of play functions, forms, materials and colors.

George Nakashima (1905-1990) is a second-generation Japanese American who was one of the pioneers of the American Studio Furniture movement. Known for the use of natural timber shape of furniture design, Nakashima's furniture shows the aesthetic characteristics of Japan, which distinguishes it from the furniture of other American studio designers. But Nakashima has been regarded as simply a studio furniture designer, designing furniture that takes its natural form. Therefore, research is needed from a more diverse point of view, and the process of interpreting the cultural backgrounds of a designer becoming a design may be an important subject of study. Thus, this study attempts to interpret the hierarchy of design cultures belonging to a studio designer and to identify cultural characteristics that are not apparent. Therefore, through a process of studying from visible to invisible levels of cultural hierarchy, the study analyzed the aesthetic characteristics of the Nakashima's furniture, his personal experience of Japanese culture, and philosophical background.

The purpose of this research is to provide new direction on the field of the furniture design and to establish the identity of Korean furniture design as the flow of craft's juxtapose mixture era where it mix and match Korean traditional craft style materials with the modern furniture design. In other words, it is intended to create new furniture design and propose beautiful Korean luxury furniture design based on the precious unique culture with the traditional craft style, juxtaposition of modern furniture, and reinterpretation. It should grant artistic values that can satisfy consumers having various tastes and scarcity values, plus it should put out aesthetic and creative expressions in furniture design putting into the beautiful traditional craft form values. Furthermore, it is required to create new design through values and spirit, materials, techniques, forms, pattern, and usages by interacting, coordinating, and combining tradition and modern East and West, plus craft and design.

Through this study, I developed a new-styled desk for public reading in library in consideration of the characteristics of the company "KIFURS Co., Ltd." established and branded by a part of the members of the association 'Gyeonggi-Incheon Furniture Industry Cooperative', in the background of growing library-furniture market situation according to the government policy and the related participations of competitive companies. The differentially designed product was herein presented by introducing the function of office furniture and related material, by giving the existing product some improvements on the basis of the domestic and international data searching. The characteristic of the developed product is that the basic structure of the desk for public reading is easy to assemble & disassemble and also variable to be extended & modified. This basic structure is available to be mass production and to be pricewise through using aluminum. Furthermore it can be used as other library-furniture and office furniture, too. Also the luxury image was pursued by modern shape and different material, unlike the existing library-furniture.

This study is creating furniture design strategies that can upgrade the library function. Today, everyday life is in very strong relationship with the library. In most cases, however, to focus on building libraries. In fact, Because users are living libraries inside the building was in contact with furniture. The selection of furniture and design library is very important. The first thing the process of study, research purposes, surf the web and through a literature search for the second time, and refers to cases examined, and analyzes more than libraries. Direction of Library Furniture Design 'identity or symbolism', 'flexibility', 'sustainability', 'charm', 'hybrid' to clean up. And propose a design guide, showing specific examples.

Since Cubists represented a way of expressing image moving away from traditional illusion effect, new realities represented by collage and assemblage. Furthermore, Marcel Duchamp, a French Dadaist, suggested the concept of ready-made that everyday objects exhibited in an odd way in a gallery. These early fine art cases highly influenced to furniture design in the second half of the twentieth century. The use of objects in contemporary furniture is closely related to the emergence of Pop Art in the late 1950s and that of Postmodernism. After the 1970s the use of found objects were frequently utilized in furniture design of all over the countries. As an ecological issue became a new consideration to furniture designers, found objects also gave a chance to use recycled materials. Even in studio furniture area which is considered wood as a major material at the early stage, many studio furniture designers began to adapt found objects in their designs as a new source of Inspiration after the 1970s. This study explored various examples of found objects in furniture design and examined the meaning of the use in different designers and regions.

In the recent society of knowledge industry, a changed phenomenon of domestic corporate culture, Work Smart working in creative and various ways beyond time and space is emerged from Work Hard working just hard. Thus, many corporations are trying to configure the emotional space beside the work space to make effective and creative achievements in free work environment out of rigid organizational culture in the past. This space is called Amenity space which enables to implement physical and psychological healings simultaneously and this is not a place for rest like in the past industry society. This research suggests distinctive characteristics of other amenity furniture unlike general furniture by analyzing the variously suggested change of forms of amenity furniture for Work Smart and the changes of configuring key factors such as forms, structures and functions of amenity furniture.

In this study I made an analysis on the background of creating of Minimal Art and thought of its artists during 1950~1960 and their works. Starting from the early Modernism that tried to depict the life of farmers and laborers in the chaos of war and viewing the art as the tools describing the life itself, minimal art took its root as furniture in ordinary life passing through the era of Surrealism and Dadaism. In 20th century, furniture designers were trying to seek new trend of modern furniture in the perspective of balance and immaculateness while excluding emotion and overall feeling through minimalism. These efforts result in the introduction of immaculateness and refinement in furniture design. Hence, this study is to represent a new trend of furniture design utilizing the margin of furniture in complex lives through formative characteristics that minimal art beholds.

This paper considers Wedding Furniture(new furniture that brides prepare for marriage) design in Korea. Social survey research methods were applied to study wedding furniture from 1960 to 1990. A questionnaires were delivered to 766 urban housewives. As to the statistical methods of the study, descriptive analysis for frequencies, and $X^2-test$ were selectively performed using SPSS PC+ program. the findings are as follows; During this period, Wedding Furniture became an essential Honsu(혼수: wedding gift) item People choose as Wedding Furnitures that serve basic functions of furniture and are traditionally symbols of wedding. They were increased both quantity and quality. Typical Wedding Furnitures of the Modern time were Jangrong(장농: wardrobe for storing clothes and bed clothes), dressing table, wardrobe chest, cupboard and bed. Wedding Furniture items have become more various in kind. Criteria for selecting Wedding Furniture were functionality, affordability, fashion, and decorativeness, tradition and symbolic of marriage. but, The symbolic importance of Wedding Furniture as Honsu will be weakened with the introduction of a variety of electronic appliances.

Handles are very essential element to satisfy function of furniture except for furniture without doors. Moreover, handles of furniture tend to have not only functions for opening and shutting but also decorations for furniture. Among various hardware for furniture, handles are the one who influence furniture's design most. Yet, cases of damages occur due to the fact that there are many copying. Handles have short lives, so that it is economically quiet burden to develop new products in Korea. Therefore, this study aims to inspire necessity of investment for handles and other hardware's development by classifying types of handles, systemizing basic knowledge of design for furniture handles, and realizing the importance of handles within domestic demand.
