A NEW PRIMAL-DUAL INTERIOR POINT METHOD FOR LINEAR OPTIMIZATION

  • A primal-dual interior point method(IPM) not only is the most efficient method for a computational point of view but also has polynomial complexity. Most of polynomialtime interior point methods(IPMs) are based on the logarithmic barrier functions. Peng et al.([14, 15]) and Roos et al.([3]-[9]) proposed new variants of IPMs based on kernel functions which are called self-regular and eligible functions, respectively. In this paper we define a new kernel function and propose a new IPM based on this kernel function which has $O(n^{\frac{2}{3}}log\frac{n}{\epsilon})$ and $O(\sqrt{n}log\frac{n}{\epsilon})$ iteration bounds for large-update and small-update methods, respectively.

DESCRIPTIONS OF ATTACK ANGLE AND IDEAL LIFT COEFFICIENT FOR VARIOUS AIRFOIL PROFILES IN WIND TURBINE BLADE

  • The angle of attack is highly sensitive to pitch point in the airfoil shape and the decline of pitch point value induces smaller angle of attack, which implies that airfoil profile possessing closer pitch point to the airfoil tip reacts more sensitively to upcoming wind. The method of conformal transformation functions is employed for airfoil profiles and airfoil surfaces are expressed with a trigonometric series form. Attack angle and ideal lift coefficient distributions are investigated for various airfoil profiles in wind turbine blade regarding conformal transformation and pitch point. The conformed angle function representing the surface angle of airfoil shape generates various attack angle distributions depending on the choice of surface angle function. Moreover, ideal attack angle and ideal lift coefficient are susceptible to the choice of airfoil profiles and uniform loading area. High ideal attack angle signifies high pliability to upcoming wind, and high ideal lift coefficient involves high possibility to generate larger electric energy. According to results obtained pitch point, airfoil shape, uniform loading area, and the conformed airfoil surface angle function are crucial factors in the determination of angle of attack.

  • Softwares, especially like machine learning applications, affect human's life style tremendously. Accordingly, the importance of the cost model for softwares increases rapidly. As cost models, LOC(Line of Code) and M/M(Man-Month) estimates the quantitative aspects of the software. Differently from them, FP(Function Point) focuses on estimating the functional characteristics of software. FP is efficient in the aspect that it estimates qualitative characteristics. FP, however, has a limit for evaluating machine learning softwares because FP does not evaluate the critical factors of machine learning software. In this paper, we propose an extended function point(ExFP) that extends FP to adopt hyper parameter and the complexity of its optimization as the characteristics of the machine learning applications. In the evaluation reflecting the characteristics of machine learning applications. we reveals the effectiveness of the proposed ExFP.

  • In recent times control functions have been used in several problems of metric fixed point theory. Also weak inequalities have been considered in a number of works on fixed points in metric spaces. Here we have incorporated a control function in certain weak inequalities. We have established two fixed point theorems for mapping satisfying such inequalities. Our results are supported by examples.

  • In this paper an improvement is made on the function point moedl,one of sortware size dstimation model,for better fesibility with increased accuracy as my proposed moedl.For better feasibility seven function typcs are proposed in this model and technical complexity factors are used to assecss the diffculties of considering technical and distributed enviroment attributes.To assess the creditability of the proposed model,24-software develop-ment cases were cinsidered in the regression model with the actual require efforts as the total function points. As seen in the statistical results,the proposed model is at least as superior to the known function point models.

  • The purpose of this paper is to obtain new complexity results for a second-order cone optimization (SOCO) problem. We define a proximity function for the SOCO by a kernel function. Furthermore we formulate an algorithm for a large-update primal-dual interior-point method (IPM) for the SOCO by using the proximity function and give its complexity analysis, and then we show that the new worst-case iteration bound for the IPM is $O(q\sqrt{N}(logN)^{\frac{q+1}{q}}log{\frac{N}{\epsilon})$, where $q{\geqq}1$.

  • In this paper we generalize large-update primal-dual interior point methods for linear optimization problems in [2] to the $P_*(\kappa)$ linear complementarity problems based on a new kernel function which includes the kernel function in [2] as a special case. The kernel function is neither self-regular nor eligible. Furthermore, we improve the complexity result in [2] from $O(\sqrt[]{n}(\log\;n)^2\;\log\;\frac{n{\mu}o}{\epsilon})$ to $O\sqrt[]{n}(\log\;n)\log(\log\;n)\log\;\frac{m{\mu}o}{\epsilon}$.

  • We present a novel deblurring algorithm for bi-level images blurred by some parameterizable point spread function. The proposed method iteratively searches unknown parameters in the point spread function and noise-to-signal ratio by minimizing an objective function that is based on the binariness and the difference between two intensity values of restoring image. In simulations and experiments, the proposed method showed improved performance compared with the Wiener filtering based method in terms of bit error rate after segmentation.

  • Railway vehicle equipment goes back again to the state just before when failure by the repair. In repairable system, we are interested in the failure interval. As such, a statistical model of the point process, NHPP power law is often used for the reliability analysis of a repairable system. In order to derive a quantitative reliability value of repairable system, we analyze the failure data of the air brake system of the train line 7. The quantitative value is the failure intensity function that was modified, converted into a cost-rate function. Finally we studied the optimal number and optimal interval in which the costs to a minimum consumption point as cost-rate function. The minimum cost point was 194,613 (won/day) during the total life cycle of the braking system, then the optimal interval were 2,251days and the number of optimal preventive maintenance were 7 times. Additionally, we were compared to the cost of a currently fixed interval(4Y) and the optimum interval then the optimal interval is 3,853(won/day) consuming smaller. In addition, judging from the total life, "fixed interval" is smaller than 1,157 days as "optimal interval".

Testing of a discontinuity point in the log-variance function based on likelihood (가능도함수를 이용한 로그분산함수의 불연속점 검정)

  • Let us consider that the variance function in regression model has a discontinuity/change point at unknown location. Yu and Jones (2004) proposed the local polynomial fit to estimate the log-variance function which break the positivity of the variance. Using the local polynomial fit, Huh (2008) estimate the discontinuity point of the log-variance function. We propose a test for the existence of a discontinuity point in the log-variance function with the estimated jump size in Huh (2008). The proposed method is based on the asymptotic distribution of the estimated jump size. Numerical works demonstrate the performance of the method.
