Suppression of Common-Mode Voltage in a Multi-Central Large-Scale PV Generation Systems for Medium-Voltage Grid Connection (중전압 계통 연계를 위한 멀티 센트럴 대용량 태양광 발전 시스템의 공통 모드 전압 억제)

  • This paper describes an optimal configuration for multi-central inverters in a medium-voltage (MV) grid, which is suitable for large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants. We theoretically analyze a proposed common-mode equivalent model for problems associated with multi-central transformerless-type three-phase full bridge(3-FB) PV inverters employing two-winding MV transformers. We propose a synchronized PWM control strategy to effectively reduce the common-mode voltages that may simultaneously occur. In addition, we propose that the existing 3-FB topology may also have the configuration of a multi-central inverter with a two-winding MV transformer by making a simple circuit modification. Simulation and experimental results of three 350kW PV inverters in a multi-central configuration verify the effectiveness of the proposed synchronization control strategy. The modified transformerless-type 3-FB topology for a multi-central PV inverter configuration is verified using an experimental prototype of a 100kW PV inverter.

  • This paper describes the performance improvement of dc TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welder. The TIG welder consists of single phase full bridge IGBT inverter which incorporates the high frequency transformer, the boost converter for improving the input power factor, and the arc start system. The arc will be generated without fail even when the extension cable between the torch and the power source is 100m long. In addition, the arc start system with a short dc output voltage will generate less EMI noise than the traditional arc start system with a high frequency output voltage. To demonstrate the practical significance of the proposed methods, some simulation studies are presented.

  • An AC induction motor or constant speed characteristics has been widely used as power source because of simple structure and low maintenance cost in industrial field. The variable frequency AC source with a conventional inverter which is composed or power semi-conductors and drive systems contains much noises in sine wave current due to high speed switching or direct current. In this paper, the low pass LC filter for a variable speed induction motor driven by a full bridge inverter is introduced to solve EMI problem originated by much noise current. The modified LC filter based on the 3rd order Butterworth LC filter is used for the computer simulations and real experiments. The characteristics or proposed LC filter are investigated through FET analysis.

  • This paper describes an induction heating system which is full-bridge parallels resonant inverter. This system consists of current-fed type inverter, and a parallels resonant circuit with a matching transformer. A parallels resonant scheme is employed, and operating range of the proposed circuit with operating frequency and load parameter is demonstrated from the result of steady state. Also, this equipments testing result introduces, good efficiency and reliability of the system. Finally, this paper experimental results are given.

  • In this paper, a novel new pulse power generator based on IGBT stacks is proposed for pulse power application. Proposed scheme consists of series connected 9 power stages to generate maximum 60kV output pulse and one series resonant power inverter to charge DC capacitor voltage. Each power stages are configured as 8 series connected power cells and each power cell generates up to 850VDC pulse. Finally pulse output voltage is applied using total 72 series connected IGBTs. The synchronization of gating signal is important for series operation of IGBTs. For gating signal synchronization, full bridge inverter and pulse transformer generates on-off signals of IGBT gating and specially designed gate power circuit was used. Proposed scheme has lots of advantages such as long lifecyle, compact size, flat topped pulse forming, small weight, protection for arc, high efficiency and flexibility to generate various kinds of pulse output.

  • In this paper, a systematical controller design method for a twostage grid-connected photovoltaic power conditioning system is proposed. For a pre-stage boost converter to achieve the stable operation in the entire region of solar array, the digital resistive current mode controller is used. This algorithm is very simple to implement with a digital controller and there is no power stage parameter dependency in the controller design. For a post-stage single-phase full-bridge inverter, a PI controller with a feedforward compensation for the inner current control is employed. Furthermore, in case that the operating point of the solar array under varying environmental conditions is higher than the required voltage for the inverter current control, the bypass mode for the boost converter is possible for the more efficient operation. The proposed control scheme is validated through the experiment of the prototype two-stage power conditioning system hardware with a 200W solar array.

  • A novel single-phase induction machine drive containing full bridge inverter is presented. The drive is intended for conveyor system or a similar type of application requiring variable-speed operation with a fan-type load characteristic. An experimental drive based on the proposed setup has been built to verify its practical viability. The paper presents the results obtained from an investigation and discusses the properties and characteristics of the drive for the entire speed range from 0 to 60Hz.

  • The modular line-connected photovoltaic PCS (power conditioning system) is proposed. The proposed system consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a full-bridge inverter. A step-up DC-DC converter using a dual series-resonant rectifier circuit and a active-clamp circuit is proposed to achieve a high efficiency and a high input-output voltage ratio efficiently. An IncCond (incremental conductance) MPPT (maximum power point tracking) algorithm that improves MPPT characteristic is used. By control a inverter using a linearized output current controller, a unity power factor is achieved. All algorithms and controllers are implemented on a single-chip microcontroller and the superiority of the proposed algorithms and controllers is proved by experiments.
