In 233 science-gifted elementary students and 329 non-gifted elementary students, we measured the friendship expectation that sub-domains were intimacy, ability similarity, and morality. The results of this study were as follows: First, according to the results of comparing the friendship expectations of science-gifted and non-gifted students at the regular class, there was statistically significant intergroup difference in the sub-domains of intimacy and morality, but there was no significant difference in the sub-domain of ability similarity. Second, according to the results of comparing the friendship expectations of science-gifted at the gifted class and at the regular class, there was statistically significant difference in the sub-domain of intimacy, but there was no significant difference in the sub-domains of morality and ability similarity. Based the results, the implications to understand the friendship of the science gifted elementary students were suggested in depth.
This study examined differences in function, structure, and satisfaction of adolescent friendships by differing patterns of internet usage and of real life versus internet friendships. Subjects were 396 male and female 10th grade students. Data were collected with structured questionnaires and analyzed by SPSS. Findings were that the internet functioned as a major field of interpersonal relationships for Korean adolescents. Among 3 types of internet usage patterns, pursuit of interpersonal relationship, constituted most of the functioning and the most intimate friendships and game pleasure had the fewest and least intimate friendships both in real life and on the internet. Subjects addicted to the internet had the most functioning friendships and the highest level of intimacy in friendships. As the level of internet addiction increased, the level of satisfaction in friendships in real life decreased while the level of satisfaction of friendships through the internet increased.

The results of this study were as follows: First, according to the results of comparing the friendship expectations of gifted students in the gifted class and the regular class, there were statistically significant differences in the sub-domains of intimacy and morality. But there was no significant difference in the sub-domain of ability similarity. Based the results of this, the implications to understand the friendship of the gifted students were suggested.
This study investigated the relation between participation in bullying, peer relationship and children's social status. We examined the classified types of social status among 700 fifth and sixth grade elementary schools students. The data were obtained by administering a self-reported questionnaire. Differences were identified with participation in bullying behavior, intimacy friendship and peer support as peer relationship. The collected data were subjected to a descriptive and F-test analysis using the SPSS software program. The results conveyed that social status was different according to the gender difference. Rejected boys presented more bully, reinforce, assistant and victim behaviors. Neglected boys were more victims of bullying. Defensive behavior was more apparent in popular and neglected boys. Furthermore, such boys had high intimate friendships. Popular boys presented distinctively more peer support. Rejected boys represented less intimate friendship and peer support. On the other hand, popular girls portrayed more defensive behavior. However, rejected girls and neglected girls had less defensive behaviors. Victim behaviors were less coherent in popular and neglected girls. Intimate friendship and peer support were mostly apparent in popular girls. Rejected boys represented less intimate friendship and peer support.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlations among physical, relational aggression and friendship quality and the similarity of perceptions of friendship quality between friends. Moreover, APIM was applied to examine the actor and partner effects of aggression on friendship quality. The subjects were 339 5th grade children recruited from 2 public primary schools located in Gyeonggi province. The results demonstrated that there were significant correlations between friendship quality and both types of aggression. The perceptions of help, intimacy, emotional stability, and conflict between friends were significantly similar. Finally, there were significant self-effects of physical aggression on friendship conflict. Moreover, there were self-and partner-effects of relational aggression on friendship conflict.
Relationships between peer bullying/victimization, friendship, and self- perception were examined in a sample of 279 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade elementary school students. Data on peer bullying/victimization was collected by peer report using Korean Peer Nomination Inventory; children reported for themselves on the Friendship Quality Scale and the Self-Perception Scale. Children who were involved in peer bullying/victimization reported fewer reciprocal friends and friends similar to themselves; they also showed low friendship quality. Peer victimization was predictable from low perception of social acceptance and friendship satisfaction, while intimacy with friends and high confidence on physical ability predicted peer bullying.
In this study of the relationships between quality of children's friendships, their self-perception and school adjustment, 434 4th, 5th, and 6th graders replied to a series of questionnaires. Girls reported higher levels of quality of friendship in the areas of emotional security, help, intimacy, and acknowledgement than boys. Boys showed higher levels of self-perception in cognitive competence, athletic ability and social acceptance than girls. Positive friendship quality and friendship satisfaction were related to self-perception and school adjustment. Variables that influenced school adjustment were social behavior, cognitive competence, global self-worth, pleasure in companionship, and athletic ability. For boys, variables which influenced school adjustment were social behavior, cognitive competence, pleasure in companionship, and global self-worth. For girls, the variables were global self-worth, cognitive competence, trust, social behavior, and athletic ability.
It is known that the role of informal support for elderly women is critical to their physical and mental health, adjustment in old age, and their overall life satisfaction. Elderly women's situation such as social losses, widowhood, living alone, and geographic relocation etc. may result in a need for more informal supports for elderly women's health than ever before. Particularly, women's same-sex friendships were rated higher for overall quality, intimacy, enjoyment, and nurturance. Unlike a generally accepted notion that later life for women is a time of isolation and loneliness, elderly women tend to maintain and reestablish their friendship regardless their marital status and living situation. Although studies on informal support for elderly women were inconclusive in many ways, elderly women's friendship tends to be stable despite of changing health status and life events. The relative importance between daughters and friends was also controversial. This study suggests that more research with reliable measurements is necessary for the practical prevention and intervention program of elderly women's health on this issue.
The effects of personal(gender, physical growth) and environmental(communication with parent, intimacy of friendship, school performance, and satisfaction of school-life) factors on adolescent's self-esteem were examined in a samlpe of 525 first and second grades in middle school. The subdomains of the self-esteem were peer-related self, home self, teacher-related self, academic self, physical appearance self, physical competence self, personality self, and general self. T-test, Pearson's correlation, and regression were used as statistical analysis. Results were as follows. First, there was evidence of a gender difference in the level of the subsdomains of self-esteem: teacher-related, physical-appearance, physical-competence, and personality. Second, the factor which was the most powerful predictor of each subdomain of the self-esteem was as follows 1) the most powerful predictor of the peer-related self was the intimacy of friendship, 2) the most powerful predictor of the home self was the communication with parent, 3) the most powerful predictor of the teacher-related self was the satisfaction of school-life, 4) the most powerful predictor of the academic self was the school performance, 5)the most powerful predictor of the physical-appearance self, the physical competence self, and the personality self was the satisfaction of school-life, 6) the most powerful predictor of the general self was the school performance.

The film "The World of Us (2016)" shows the acquisition and loss of friendship that occur in the process of interpersonal shifts in latency school girls. Connection to the peer group helps compensate for the latency child's loss of parent-child intimacy and the ensuing feelings of loneliness. The protagonists realize that the relationship is not for retaliation or for victory, but for playing together. However the reality that lies in front of them will not be so easy. Watching this film reminds one of childhood.
