To estimate the possibility in the application of TiN ion-plating to the orthodontic appliance, this study investigated frictional force and frictional coefficient between non-ionplated and TiN ion-plated to the orthodontic appliance. The obtained results were as follows : 1. For each group, the frictional force between metal bracket and arch wire in the wet condition was exhibited lower than that in the dry condition. 2. In the dry condition, the frictional force was lowest with fourth group, and it increased in the order of the 3rd, 1st, and 2nd group. Same situation happened in the wet condition. 3. Experimental results using ceramic & plastic bracket showed that group B was lower than group A, and group D was similar to group C. 4. The surface texture after experiment showed that the scratch due to a friction with bracket was observed in an arch wire of dry contition. Also the surface of bracket was rougher than before. 5. We observed that a specimen surface processed with the TiN ion plating was smoother than that of without the TiN ion plating. 6. The surface texture of a metal bracket and an arch wire in the wet condition was observed smoother than that in the dry condition. 7. In the dry condition, the friction coefficient of each specimen was very similar to each other, but in the wet condition, the friction coefficient of specimen processed with the TiN ion plating showed lower values.

In recent years, oil prices have continued to be low owing to the development of unconventional resources such as shale gas, coalbed methane gas, and tight gas. However, shipping companies are still experiencing difficulties because of recession in the shipping market. Hence, they devote considerable effort toward reducing operating costs. One of the important parameters for reducing operating costs is the frictional resistance of vessels. Generally, a vessel is covered with paint for smoothing its surface. However, frictional resistance increases with time owing to surface roughness, such as that caused by fouling. To prevent this, shipping companies periodically clean or repaint the surfaces of vessels using analyzed operating data. In addition, studies using various methods have been continuously carried out to identify this phenomenon such as fouling for managing ships more efficiently. In this study, numerical simulation was used to analyze the change in the resistance performance of a ship owing to an increase in surface roughness using commercial software, i.e., Star-CCM+, which solves the continuity and Navier eStokes equations for incompressible and viscous flow. The conditions for numerical simulation were verified through comparison with experiments, and these conditions were applied to three ships to evaluate resistance performance according to surface roughness.

A study on the optimization problems to find forebode shapes with minimum wavemaking and frictional resistance was performed. The afterbody was fixed as a given hull and only forebode offsets were treated as design variables. Design variables were divided into the offsets of given hull and small variation from them. For the wavemaking resistance calculation, Neumann-Kelvin theory was applied to the given hull and thin ship theory was applied to the small variation. ITTC 1957 model-ship correlation line was used for the calculation of frictional resistance. Hull surface was represented mathmatically using shape function. As object function, such as wavemaking and frictional rersistance, was quadratic form of offsets and constraints linear, quadratic programing problem could be constructed. The complementary pivot method was used to find the soulution of the quadratic programing problem. Calculations were perfomed for the Series 60 $C_{B}$=0.6. at Fn=0.289. A realistic hull form could be obtained by using proper constraints. From the results of calculation for the Series 60 $C_{B}$=0.6, it was concluded that present method gave optimal shape of bulbous bow showing a slight improvement in the wave resistance performance at design speed Fn=0.289 compared with the results from the ship theory only.

Fluid Confirmation Tests(FCT) on 1500 ground Anchors install in weathered rock were carried out to investigate upper and lower limit of elastic elongation, frictional resistant of fixed anchor body, mobilized angle between anchor body and soil. All the measured data were analysed and compared with theoretical equations. The frictional angles of diaphragm wall and anchorage system in weathered rock showed nonlinear curve between upper and lower limit of standard elongation. The FCT results indicated that the frictional resistant angles increased with higher values of surcharge load. The quality assurance on the fixed anchor location was investigated by means of measuring elastic elongation during the FCT, and comparing these with theoretical design length, the quality of anchors in this particular site found to be above average standard. The results of this research works with provide valuable guide line on quality assurance of anchors system as well as resonable prediction of friction resistance between the fixed anchor body and the weathered rock.

In this study, to check up on the effect of the components of cutting resistance upon friction between drill and inside wall of hole in drilling, the experiment was performed with individual specimen of carbon steel, cast iron, aluminium alloy under various cutting conditions: depth of hole, cutting speed, feed rate, shape and material of specimen. On the basis of the experimental results, the following conclusions are drawn; 1. The components of cutting resis- tance were increased in proportion to the increase of depth of hole owing to frictional resistance of drill margin and chip-jamming. 2. As feed rates increase, torque and thrust were increased. When comparing to the increasing rate for these components respecitively, thrust is higher tendency than torque. 3. As drill diameter increase, torque and thrust were increased. When comparing to the increasing rate for these components respectively, torque is higher tendency than thrust. 4. In the case of torque, the frictional resistance between drill margin and inside wall of drilled hole accounts for about 20 percent of carbon steel, 14 of cast iron, 10 aluminium alloy in drilling. But the effect of thrust force could be negligible. 5. Comparison between the theoretical and experimental results showed a close agreement so far as depth of hole is about three times of drill diameter. But there was a wide difference between them beyond the rane of three times, because of characteristics of the drilling process.

The reduction of $CO_2$ emissions has been a key target in the marine industry since the IMO's MEPC published its findings in 2009. Air lubrication method is one of the mature technologies for commercialization to reduce the frictional resistance and enhance fuel efficiency of ships. Air layer is formed by the coalescence of the injected air bubbles beyond a certain air flow rate. In this study, a model ship (${\lambda}=33.33$) of a 50,000 ton medium range tanker is equipped with an air lubrication system. The experiments were conducted in the 100 m long towing tank facility at the Pusan National University. By selecting optimal air injector configuration and distribution ratio between two injectors, the total resistance of model $R_{TM}$ was able to be reduced down to 18.1% in the model scale. Key issue was found to suppress the sideway leakage of injected air by appropriate injection parameters.

The method which makes the soft ground reinforced by using the geogrid, a kind of geosynthetics has been getting popular and its usefulness also has been increased due to reduction in costs, ease of construction and great exterior view, But the study on the frictional characteristics, which is the important factor in design, between reinforcement and soil is insufficient. In this study, compaction degrees were considered through large-scale pullout tests. As a part of studying on estimation of pullout frictional characteristics between soil and geosynthetics, pullout tests were peformed and from the result of pullout tests, pullout frictional parameters between soil and geosynthetics were obtained and pullout behaviors were learned.

The safety of a structure can be improved by applying the three dimensional passive earth pressure. Because the three dimensional passive earth pressure is much larger than the two dimensional passive earth pressure and it is determined by the size(width B and height H) and the wall frictional angle of the resistant wall. Therefore, the three dimensional passive resistance behavior was studied through the model tests in sandy ground, where the size of the resistant wall and the wall frictional angle were varied. The results show that three dimensional passive earth pressure is 1.1∼3.4 times larger than that of the two dimensional value depending on the wall size and the wall friction.

During braking at a train, thermal energy is generated due to the frictions between disk and lining and wheel and shoe. In general, the braking transfers the kinetic energy into thermal energy. Therefore, the frictional characteristics are varied according to the braking force, the thermal resistance, and the thermostable, etc. Using a Dynamo testing we have studied the frictional characteristics and the thermal distribution to investigate a stable speed and to improve the testing method through comparing and analysing in the measurement of the thermocouple temperature and infrared camera.
This paper presents the results of full-scale load tests performed frictional anchors to various lengths at several sites in Korea. Various rock types were tested, ranging from highly weathered shale to sound gneiss. In many tests, rock failure was reached and the ultimate loads were recorded along with observations of the shape and extent of the failure surface. Laboratory tests were also conducted to investigate the influence of the corrosion protection sheath on the bond strength. Based on test results, the main parameters governing the uplift capacity of the rock anchor system were determined. By evaluation of the ultimate uplift capacity of anchor foundations in a wide range of in situ rock masses, rock classification suitable for structural foundation was developed. Finally, a very simple and economical design procedure is proposed for rock anchor foundations subjected to uplift tensile loads.
