  • This study is concerned with the thermo-biscoplastic finite element analysis of hot tube extrusion through square dies with a mandrel. The problem is treated as a non-steady state and the ALE description is used due to abruptly turning flow at the die aperture. Since the contact heat transfer coefficient and the friction factor are required in the analysis experiments are also carried out to determine the values, In order to apply ceramics to an extrusion die the study is focussed on under-standing the characteristics of the process. The simulated results provide the useful informations such as metal flow temperature distribution stress state etc. The elastic analysis of the dies is carried out to obtain the stress state of the ceramic dies.

  • An introduction to orthogonal cutting model by FEM is given, followed by a review of similar work. The cutting process is treated as quasi-static and strain rate insensitive, so the model is applicable only to low speed cutting operation. Chip separation is accomplished along a predefined cutting path by means of an element death procedure. Contact elements with friction capability are used to model the interaction between the tool and the workpiece. FEM results are compared with cutting experiments with low speed for brass, and good correlations are found.

  • In this study, the tempering effect on the wear characteristics of induction-hardened SPS5 steel was investigated. For this purpose, three tempering conditions were applied to control the hardness of heat-treated SPS5 steel. Ball-on-disk wear tests have been performed using zircornia balls on the tempered specimens to determine the variation of wear characteristics. The results showed that friction coefficient decreased with increasing hardness for induction hardening conditions. This seems to occur because real contact area between specimen and mating ball was affected by the specimen hardness.

  • In this study an antilocking-brake-system was set up for the single wheel of passenger cars. The control algorithm for the system was programmed by C-language and executed by a 16bit personal computer, which took the role of an electronic control unit. The performance of the antilocking-brake-system was tested using a test rig, which was specially designed and built up for the simulation of braking on the slippery road. The test results were satisfactory. Although the simulation method of the friction characteristics between the tire and the contact surface on the test rig appeared not to be absolutely suitable, the test rig allowed the basic investigation of the influence of the antilocking brake control on the wheel slip.

  • Orthotropic laminates, such as [$0^{\circ}6$/$90^{\circ}6$]s and [$90^{\circ}6$/$0^{\circ}6$]s, were performed, using a commercial nonlinear finite element method. Interlaminar stress distributions, around the hole curve free-edge, were calculated. The delamination bearing strengths of pin joints were predicted, using the modified delamination failure criterion. These stress distributions were presented along the radial lines and around the free-edge of the hole. Further, three-dimensional non-linear contact analysis of orthotropic laminates was conducted to investigate the effect of friction. In this paper, laminates with a circular hole were taken to study interlaminar stresses the curved edge. This study may assist in the design of a thick composite laminate with mechanically pin joints.

  • There is a merit a planetary gear set disperses a delivery load, and to decrease loss of friction and noise. But, in addition to meshing this internal and external gear simultaneously and phase difference by the tooth contact point and the time difference occurs asymmetric and symmetric sideband noise and vibration caused by the modulation in the vehicle. Existing planetary gear set research have progressed to reduce the cause of the sideband as run-out, pitch error and imbalance. In this paper presents a method for the design of the carrier phase difference by developing various theorys and experiments for gear noise.

  • The plane strain analysis for simulating the stretch/draw forming operation with an arbitrarily-shaped tool profile is introduced. An implicit, incremental, updated Lagrangian formulation with a rigid-viscoplastic constitutive equation is employed. Contact and friction are considered through the mesh-normal, which compatibly describes arbitrary tool surfaces and FEM meshes without depending on the explicit spatial derivatives of tool surfaces. The linear line elements are used for depicting the formed sheet, based on membrane approximation. The FEM formulation is tested in the sections of automotive inner panel and two-side draw-in. Not only the excellent agreement between measured and computed strains is obtained in the stretched section, but also the numerical stability of formulation is verified in the draw-in section.

The design parameters calculated from the experimental data are friction loss. windage loss and contact resistance of brushes. The characteristic analysis of the designed motor is performed and then the proposed method is verified by comparing with experimental result.

  • Magnetic levitation system with the advantages of non-contact, no friction and no wear can satisfy the requirement of high precision and high speed positioning. In this paper, magnetic levitation positioning stage which mainly consists of planar coil and HALBACH permanent magnet array and its control and driving system are designed. Magnetic levitation system is a highly nonlinear and strongly coupled complex system and its control performance can be influenced by the uncertainty and external disturbance. So exact feedback linearization method is used to realize exact linearization and decoupling, and a strategy of sliding mode control based on disturbance observer is proposed to compensate the uncertainty and external disturbance. Detailed proofs of observer's convergence property and system stability are derived. Both the simulation and experiment results verify the effectiveness of sliding mode control algorithm based on disturbance observer.
