This article aims to apply a friction stir spot welding for producing a lap joint of AA1100 aluminum alloy and SGACD zinc coated steel. The experiment was designed by MINITAB and then investigated the relation among the friction spot joint parameters. The experimental results are as follows. The friction spot joining could successively produce the lap joint of AA1100 aluminum alloy and SGACD zinc coated steel. Interaction between the rotate speed, the hold time and the tool insert speed affected to vary the tensile shear strength of the lap joint. The prediction of the optimized welding parameters that indicated the tensile shear strength of 1966 N was the rotated speed of 4000 rpm, the pin hold time of 6 sec, the pin insert rate of 6 mm/min with the S/N ratio of 66.56 that was higher than that of the total mean S/N ratio. The practical experiment of the predicted welding parameters indicated the tensile shear strength of 2165 N and had the S/N ratio of 66.70 that was higher than the predicted tensile shear strength.

We developed friction welded bimetallic sleeve for 220kV aluminum conductor XLPE cable. Not only friction welded bimetallic sleeve for Termination(EB-A, EB-G) but also friction welded sleeve for Joint of Al to Cu conductor was developed regardless of this project. Generally, friction welded sleeve used to connect Al conductor cable to Cu conductor cable and used for improvement of mechanical property of terminal by offer the copper side of friction welded bimetallic sleeve at the Termination. Connection method for Al-Cu conductor has mainly used friction welding at the solid state, because it is difficult to connect by using conventional welding method. this investigation introduces development of friction welded bimetallic sleeve by friction welding and test result of 220kV Al conductor XLPE cable and accessories using friction welded sleeve.
In the design of wood structures, the consideration of the dynamic load effect has been increased. Generally, damping ratio is presented as the method of considering dynamic load effect. So, the relationship between joint type and damping ratio was investigated. It has been known that the joint extremely damp the dynamic load in wood structures. Static test was performed to determine the effects of nail size and friction area on joint strength and stiffness. Joint strength and stiffness were increased with nail size. However, the static properties of joint was not affected by friction area. Cyclic test was performed to determine the effects of nail size, friction area and load magnitude on damping ratio, Damping ratio was affected by all factors. Increasing the width of the bottom plate was suggested as the most adequate method to increase the damping ratio without the reduction of the static properties of the structures.

A robot arm with free joints has some advantages over conventional ones. A light weight and low power consumed arm can be made by a reduction of the number of joint actuators. And this arm can easily overcomes actuator failure due to unexpected accident. In general such underactuated arm does not have controllability because of the lack of joint actuators. The two-link arm with a free joint introduced in this paper is also uncontrollable in the sense of linear system theory. However, the linearized system sometimes can not represent the inherent dynamic behavior of the nonlinear system. In this paper the dynamic characteristics of the two-link arm with a free joint in view of global motion including damping and friction effect of the joints is investigated. In the case of considering only the damping effect, the controllable goal positions are confined to a specific trajectories. But in the case of considering the friction effect, the system can be controlled to arbitrary positions using the friction of the free joint as a holding brake. Also numerical example of position control is presented.

Like many other mechanical dynamic systems, flexible manipulator systems experience stiction or sticking friction, which may cause input-dependent instabilities. Manipulator performance can be enha nced by identifying friction but it is hard and expensive to measure friction by direct and precise sensing of contact displacements and forces. This study addresses the problem of identifying flexible manipulator joint friction. A dynamic model of a two-link flexible manipulator based upon finite element and Lagrange's method is constructed. The dynamic model includes the effects of joint compliances and actuator dynamics. Friction is also incorporated in the dynamic model to account for stick-slip at the joints. Next, the friction parameters are to be determined. The identification problem is posed as an optimization problem to be solved using nonlinear programming methods. A genetic algorithm is used to increase the convergence rate and the chances of finding the global optimum. The identified friction parameters are experimentally verified and it is expected that the identification technique is applicable to a system parameter identification problem associated with a wide class of nonlinear systems.
The microstructures and mechanical properties of friction stir welded lap joints of Inconel 600 and SS 400 were evaluated; friction stir welding was carried out at a tool rotation speed of 200 rpm and welding speed of 100 mm/min. Electron back-scattering diffraction and transmission electron microscopy were introduced to analyze the grain boundary characteristics and the precipitates, respectively. Application of friction stir welding was notably effective at reducing the grain size of the stir zone. As a result, the reduced average grain size of Inconel 600 ranged from $20{\mu}m$ in the base material to $8.5{\mu}m$ in the stir zone. The joint interface between Inconel 600 and SS 400 showed a sound weld without voids and cracks, and MC carbides with a size of around 50 nm were partially formed at the Inconel 600 area of lap joint interface. However, the intermetallic compounds that lead to mechanical property degradation of the welds were not formed at the joint interface. Also, a hook, along the Inconel 600 alloy from SS 400, was formed at the advancing side, which directly brought about an increase in the peel strength. In this study, we systematically discussed the evolution of microstructures and mechanical properties of the friction stir lap joint between Inconel 600 and SS 400.
Joint strength of spot friction welded 5J32 Al alloy were investigated according to the tool shape and the tool penetration depth. General spot friction stir welding tool consists of a shoulder having bigger diameter and a threaded pin projected from the shoulder, which resulted in the generation of large up-lifting of upper plate around the weld nugget because of the deeper penetration and the severe stirring effect of threaded pin. Two kinds of welding tools without the threaded pin were used to avoid the distortion and improve the joint strength. One was a simple cylindrical shape and the other was cylindrical shape with small projection. Therefore, the process was named as spot friction welding comparing to spot friction stir welding because spot friction welding don't use a stirring effect. Using the cylindrical shape tool with small projection, the up-lifting of upper plate were avoided and joint strength were superior to that of the joint using simple cylindrical shape tool. At the 0.5mm of too penetration depth using cylindrical tool with small projection, nugget pull fracture mode can be observed and shear fracture mode were dominant at the rest conditions.

The article aims to apply a friction stir spot welding for producing the lap joint between AA5052 aluminum alloy and C11000 copper alloy. The dimension of the materials was 100 mm in length, 30 mm in width and 1.0 mm in thickness. The copper plate was set overlap the aluminum plate by 30 mm. The welding parameter was the rotating speed of 2500-4000 rpm, the pin inserting rate of 2-8 mm/min and the holding time of 6 sec. The mechanical properties test and the microstructure investigation were performed to evaluate the lap joint quality. The summarized results are as follows. The friction stir spot welding could produce effectively the lap joint between AA5052 and C11000 copper. Increase of the rotating speed and holding time directly affected to decrease the tensile shear strength of the lap joint. The optimized welding parameters in this study that indicated the tensile shear strength of 864 N was the rotating speed of 3500 rpm, the pin inserting rate of 6 mm/min and the holding time of 4sec. The experimental results also showed that the hardness of the weld metal was lower than that of the base materials.
Hydrostatic bearing improves performance and life time of a product by avoiding solid friction and reducing viscosity friction with the help of creating pressure equilibrium between two faces doing relative motion. This study suggests failure analysis and test evaluation for a ball joint that adopts the hydrostatic bearing and introduces the entire process to improve reliability of the product by design improvement. A typical failure is growth of friction torque by solid friction, and its failure cause is determined and the improvement is proposed. Finally, reliability improvement is established by analysis of the results of before and after acceleration test.
It is very important to connect machinery and maintain it. This is usually done by bolt joint. There are two ways in connecting the bolt joint : the angle method and the torque method. The torque method is a method that let the clamping force maintain. The underhead of the bolt's head and the thread friction are the main influences. This study focuses on how the clamping farce and friction coefficient change under the condition in vibrating the underhead of the bolt's head part. As a result, under vibration condition, we found out that the clamping farce increases, while the friction coefficient decreases.
