Purpose: Coordinated activity between the jaw and neck muscles is important in oral motor tasks such as chewing. This study examined coherence between the jaw and neck muscles during chewing in healthy adults. Methods: A total of 12 healthy adults underwent electromyography (EMG) of the jaw and neck muscles during right-sided chewing at a frequency of 1 Hz. Surface electrodes were placed over the temporalis (TA), masseter (MS), anterior digastric (DA), and sternocleidomastoid (SM) muscles on the right side. EMG signals were processed for coherence and phase analysis using advanced signal processing techniques. Results: The MS and TA muscle pair exhibited high synchronization when chewing (median coherence=0.992). Contrarily, the coherence values between the MS and DA, as well as the MS and SM muscle pairs, were relatively low (median coherence=0.848 and 0.957, respectively). Phase analysis revealed minimal temporal differences between the MS and TA muscle pair and the MS and SM muscle pair, whereas substantial phase shifts were observed between the MS and DA muscle pair. Conclusions: During chewing in healthy adults, the TA muscle works synergistically whereas the DA muscle antagonistically with the MS muscle, and the SM muscle supports the activity of the MS muscle. The observed synchrony and coordination provide insights into the intricate interplay among these muscles during oral motor tasks.
Boron penetration phenomenon of $p^{+}$ silicon gate with as-deposited amorphous or polycrystalline Si upon high temperature annealing was investigated using high frequency C-V (Capacitance-Volt-age) analysis, CCST(Constant Current Stress Test), TEM(Transmission Electron Microscopy) and SIMS(Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy), C-V analysis showed that an as-deposited amorphous Si gate resulted in smaller positive shifts in flatband voltage compared wish a polycrystalline Si gate, thus giving 60-80 percent higher charge-to-breakdown of gate oxides. The reduced boron penetration of amorphous Si gate may be attributed to the fewer grain boundaries available for boron diffusion into the gate oxide and the shallower projected range of $BF_2$ implantation. The relation between electron trapping rate and flatband voltage shift was also discussed.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the awareness and attitude toward health insurance coverage extension to scaling in dental service consumers. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 349 adults in Jeonbuk from May 4 to 15, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects (7 items), Awareness of the dental health insurance system(8 items), Health insurance system coverage extension to scaling(8 items), Self-perception of oral health(7 items), Recognition toward yearly scaling benefit(10 items). Results: There were significant differences according to age in opinions on the appropriateness of the frequency of yearly scaling benefit, and the respondents who were in their 20s, who were unmarried and who brushed their teeth three times a day had significantly different opinions on the appropriateness of the fee of yearly scaling benefit. Their opinions on the expansion of scaling benefit was significantly affected by age. It implies that scaling should be added to the coverage list of the national health insurance in every age group since there is an increase in periodontal diseases with age. Concerning awareness of dental health insurance policy, the better-educated respondents took a better view of this system as they showed a more positive interest in its policies and shifts. Conclusions: It is desirable to provide more precise information as to eligible age, frequency and cost through public promotion of health coverage of scaling, and the effort to improve the health insurance coverage policy should be made in order to extend the scope of health coverage of scaling in the near future.

In this paper, we propose a new symbol offset estimation technique for an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based wireless LAN. When both inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-channel interference (ICI) do not exist in an OFDM symbol, symbol offsets cause circular shifts in the estimated channel impulse response (CIR) by the amount of symbol offset. Also, the power delay profile of a typical multipath wireless channel can be modeled by exponentially decaying function, and most energy of multipath channel is concentrated at the beginning part of the CIR. Based on these properties, the proposed symbol offset estimation technique estimates the CIR, which is circularly shifted by the amount of symbol offset, and then calculates the partial mean power from the estimated impulse response by using a moving window with a finite length. And, symbol offset can be estimated from the index of a moving window having the maximal partial mean power. The proposed technique can reduce noise effect in the process of the CIR estimation, and remove ISI and ICI using repetitive training symbol structure in time-domain for minimum training overhead. The performances of the proposed symbol offset estimation technique in typical indoor channels are demonstrated by computer simulation.

In this paper, a new composite electromagnetic bandgap(EBG) structure using magnetic materials is proposed for simultaneous switching noise(SSN) suppression in the high-speed digital circuits. The proposed EBG structure has periodic unit cells of square-patches connected by spiral-shaped bridges. The magnetic materials are located on the unit cells of spiral-shaped EBG. The real part of the permeability shifts bandgap to the lower frequency region due to the increased effective inductance. The imaginary part of the permeability has magnetic loss that decreases parasitic LC resonance peaks from between the unit cells. As a result, the proposed structure has the lower cut-off frequency compared with conventional EBG structure and -30 dB SSN suppression bandwidth from 175 MHz to 7.7 GHz. The proposed structure is expected to improve the power integrity and reduce the size of the EBG power plane.

Including RF Package inductance, substrate coupling through conductive silicon(Si)-substrate is modeled and quantitatively characterized. 2-port substrate coupling model is extended for the characterization of multi-port substrate coupling between digital circuit block and analog/RF circuit block. Furthermore, scalable parameter extraction model is developed. Multi-port substrate coupling can be investigated by linearly superposing a frequency-dependent 2-port substrate coupling model using scalable parameters. In addition, Substrate coupling including RF package inductance effect is quantitatively investigated. It is shown that package effect increases substrate coupling and shifts a characteristic frequencies(i.e., poles) to the higher frequency range. The proposed methodology can be efficiently used to the mixed-signal circuit performance verification.

A amplitude modulation(AM) range measuring system utilizes the phase difference of the modulated envelope of the reflected signal to measure the distance. It is known that the AM system has a problem in accuracy due to antenna leakage signals and spurious reflection signals, but an AM range measurement system using an active reflector, which shifts the frequency bands, has been proposed in order to minimize the measurement errors due to spurious signals. In this paper, a new phase measurement module for the AM range measurement system, which enables to measure long distance with good accuracy, is proposed. The modulation frequency is alternatively selected between 8 and 1 MHz, and the measured distance range with this module is up to 150 m within 2 cm accuracy. A JK flip-flop circuit is used for higher phase accuracy, and an XOR circuit is used to cover long distance.
Tuned liquid dampers (TLDs) are increasingly being used as efficient dynamic vibration absorbers to mitigate wind-induced vibration in super high-rise buildings. However, the damping characteristics of screens and the control effectiveness of actual structures must be investigated to improve the reliability of TLDs in engineering applications. In this study, a numerical TLD model is developed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and a simulation method for achieving the coupled vibration of the structure and TLD is proposed. The numerical results are verified using shaking table tests, and the effects of the solidity ratio and screen position on the TLD damping ratios are investigated. The TLD control effectiveness is obtained by simulating the wind-induced vibration response of a full-scale structure-TLD system to determine the optimal screen solidity ratio. The effects of the structural frequency, damping ratio, and wind load amplitude on the TLD performance are further analyzed. The TLD damping ratio increases nonlinearly with the solidity ratio, and it increases with the screens towards the tank center and then decreases slightly owing to the hydrodynamic interaction between screens. Full-scale coupled simulations demonstrated that the optimal TLD control effectiveness was achieved when the solidity ratio was 0.46. In addition, structural frequency shifts can significantly weaken the TLD performance. The control effectiveness decreases with an increase in the structural damping ratio, and is insensitive to the wind load amplitude within a certain range, implying that the TLD has a stable damping performance over a range of wind speed variations.
The study investigated the behavior of plain and fibered Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) beams under varying loading conditions using integrated analysis of the flexure and acoustic emission tests. The loading rate of testing is -0.25 -2 mm/min. It is observed that on increasing loading rate, flexural strength increases, and toughness decreases. The acoustic emission testing revealed that higher loading rates accelerate crack propagation. Fiber effect and matrix cracking are identified as significant contributors to the release of acoustic emission energy, with fiber rupture/failure and matrix cracking showing rate-dependent behavior. Crack classification analysis indicated that the rise angle (RA) value decreased under quasi-static loading. The average frequency (AF) value increased with the loading rate, but this trend reversed under rate-dependent conditions. K-means analysis identified distinct clusters of crack types with unique frequency and duration characteristics at different loading rates. Furthermore, the historic index and signal strength decreased with increasing loading rate after peak capacity, while the severity index increased in the post-peak zone, indicating more severe damage. The sudden rise in the historic index and cumulative signal strength indicates the possibility of several occurrences, such as the emergence of a significant crack, shifts in cracking modes, abrupt failure, or notable fiber debonding/pull-out. Moreover, there is a distinct rise in the number of AE knees corresponding to the increase in loading rate. The crack mapping from acoustic emission testing aligned with observed failure patterns, validating its use in structural health monitoring.

Background: Shift work has been associated with occupational stress in health providers and in those working in some industrial companies. The association is not well established in the law enforcement workforce. Our objective was to examine the association between shift work and police work-related stress. Methods: The number of stressful events that occurred in the previous month and year was obtained using the Spielberger Police Stress Survey among 365 police officers aged 27-66 years. Work hours were derived from daily payroll records. A dominant shift (day, afternoon, or night) was defined for each participant as the shift with the largest percentage of total time a participant worked (starting time from 4:00 AM to 11:59 AM, from 12 PM to 7:59 PM, and from 8:00 PM to 3:59 AM for day, afternoon, and night shift, respectively) in the previous month or year. Analysis of variance and covariance were used to examine the number of total and subscale (administrative/professional pressure, physical/psychological danger, or organizational support) stressful events across the shift. Results: During the previous month and year, officers working the afternoon and night shifts reported more stressful events than day shift officers for total stress, administrative/professional pressure, and physical/psychological danger (p < 0.05). These differences were independent of age, sex, race/ethnicity, and police rank. The frequency of these stressful events did not differ significantly between officers working the afternoon and night shifts. Conclusion: Non-day shift workers may be exposed to more stressful events in this cohort. Interventions to reduce or manage police stress that are tailored by shift may be considered.
