  • In this paper, we proposed a regularization interior point method for semidefinite programming with free variables which can be taken as an extension of the algorithm for standard semidefinite programming. Since an inexact search direction at each iteration is used, the computation of the designed algorithm is much less compared with the existing solution methods. The convergence analysis of the method is established under weak conditions.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of constructing the lower cofidence intervals for the reliability P(X < Y z,w), where the stress X and the strength Y are the random variables with explanatory variables z and w, respectively. As an estimator of the reliability, a Mann-Whitney type statistic is considered. It is shown that under regularity conditions, the proposed estimator is asymptotically normal. Based on the result, the distribution free lower confidence intervals are constructed.

  • A concession business at Incheon Int'l airport has achieved a huge success since its grand opening of 2001. However the duty-free market became matured due to downtown duty free stores and on-line stores. Thus this paper tried to research and suggest strategic planning of VMD at Incheon airport's duty-free after analyzing the relationship among the components of duty-free store's VMD, brand awareness, brand image and customer's loyalty. Components of VMD are constructed in harmony, attractiveness, trendiness and Trust, which are independent variables. In addition, brand awareness and brand image are chosen as control variables. Customer loyalty is also designated as a dependant variable. Focusing those variables, this paper tried to find out the effect of VMD components to brand and consumer loyalty. According to the research result, it is proven attractiveness and harmony have a significant positive impact on brand awareness and brand image. It is also found out brand awareness and image have a positive impact on passenger's loyalty on duty-free stores at Incheon airport.

  • In [1], the structure of C(2,2) is determined as the polynomial ring in 5 variables. In this work, we show that C(2,3) is a free module over the subring of 9 variables. We explicitly give a presentation of C(2, 3) as free module over the polynomial ring.

  • Hamilton's principle is used to derive Euler-Lagrange equations for free surface flow problems of incompressible ideal fluid. The velocity field is chosen to satisfy the continuity equation a priori. This approach results in a hierarchial set of governing equations consist of two evolution equations with respect to two canonical variables and corresponding boundary value problems. The free surface elevation and the Lagrange's multiplier are the canonical variables in Hamilton's sense. This Lagrange's multiplier is a velocity potential defined on the free surface. Energy is conserved as a consequence of the Hamiltonian structure. These equations can be applied to waves in water of finite depth including generalization of Hamilton's equations given by Miles and Salmon.

SOC Test Compression Scheme Sharing Free Variables in Embedded Deterministic Test Environment

  • This paper presents a new SOC test compression scheme in Embedded Deterministic Test (EDT) compression environment. Compressed test data is brought over the TAM from the tester to the cores in SOC and decompressed in the cores. The proposed scheme allows cores tested at the same time to share some test channels. By sharing free variables in these channels across test cubes of different cores decompressed at the same time, high encoding efficiency is achieved. Moreover, no excess control data is required in this scheme. The ability to reuse excess free variables eliminates the need for high precision in matching the number of test channels with the number of care bits for every core. Experimental results obtained for some SOC designs illustrate effectiveness of the proposed test application scheme.

Analytical free vibration solution for angle-ply piezolaminated plate under cylindrical bending: A piezo-elasticity approach

  • For the first time, an accurate analytical solution, based on coupled three-dimensional (3D) piezoelasticity equations, is presented for free vibration analysis of the angle-ply elastic and piezoelectric flat laminated panels under arbitrary boundary conditions. The present analytical solution is applicable to composite, sandwich and hybrid panels having arbitrary angle-ply lay-up, material properties, and boundary conditions. The modified Hamiltons principle approach has been applied to derive the weak form of governing equations where stresses, displacements, electric potential, and electric displacement field variables are considered as primary variables. Thereafter, multi-term multi-field extended Kantorovich approach (MMEKM) is employed to transform the governing equation into two sets of algebraic-ordinary differential equations (ODEs), one along in-plane (x) and other along the thickness (z) direction, respectively. These ODEs are solved in closed-form manner, which ensures the same order of accuracy for all the variables (stresses, displacements, and electric variables) by satisfying the boundary and continuity equations in exact manners. A robust algorithm is developed for extracting the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The numerical results are reported for various configurations such as elastic panels, sandwich panels and piezoelectric panels under different sets of boundary conditions. The effect of ply-angle and thickness to span ratio (s) on the dynamic behavior of the panels are also investigated. The presented 3D analytical solution will be helpful in the assessment of various 1D theories and numerical methods.

Exact solution for forced torsional vibration of finite piezoelectric hollow cylinder

  • An exact solution is obtained for forced torsional vibration of a finite class 622 piezoelectric hollow cylinder with free-free ends subjected to dynamic shearing stress and time dependent electric potential at both internal and external surfaces. The solution is first expanded in axial direction with trigonometric series and the governing equations for the new variables about radial coordinate r and time t are derived with the aid of Fourier series expansion technique. By means of the superposition method and the separation of variables technique, the solution for torsional vibration is finally obtained. Natural frequencies and the transient torsional responses for finite class 622 piezoelectric hollow cylinder with free-free ends are computed and illustrated.

Estimation of the Polynomial Errors-in-variables Model with Decreasing Error Variances

  • Polynomial errors-in-variables model with one predictor variable and one response variable is defined and an estimator of model is derived following the Booth's linear model estimation procedure. Since polynomial model is nonlinear function of the unknown regression coefficients and error-free predictors, it is nonlinear model in errors-in-variables model. As a result of applying linear model estimation method to nonlinear model, some additional assumptions are necessary. Hence, an estimator is derived under the assumption that the error variances are decrasing as sample size increases. Asymptotic propoerties of the derived estimator are provided. A simulation study is presented to compare the small sample properties of the derived estimator with those of OLS estimator.

On Assessing Inter-observer Agreement Independent of Variables' Measuring Units

  • Investigators use either Euclidean distance or volume of a simplex defined composed of data points as agreement index to measure chance-corrected agreement among observers for multivariate interval data. The agreement coefficient proposed by Um(2004) is based on a volume of a simplex and does not depend on the variables' measuring units. We consider a comparison of Um(2004)'s agreement coefficient with others based on two unit-free distance measures, Pearson distance and Mahalanobis distance. Comparison among them is made using hypothetical data set.
