  • Currently, free-form building has been increased worldwide. However, as a finishing material of free-form building, the production of free-form concrete panels(FCPs) spends lots of cost and efforts since it is difficult to reuse the FCP formwork and lots of workers are needed to make free-form curve. In addition, the technology to produce the FCP economically and easily is insufficient. Therefore, the objective of this study is a basic study regarding production management for developing free-form concrete panels. To achieve the objective, the property of FCP and condition for effective production management and production process are analyzed. The results of this study can utilize to develop the algorithm for FCP production management.

  • Demands for free-form buildings are on the rise, but such building designs require most cost and longer construction schedule, with less constructability due to challenges in construction member production and installation. FCP production technology has been developed using CNC machine in a bid to resolve the difficulties of member production. Exterior finishing panels of free-form building design must be divided in size and shape that can be produced by CNC machine. To solve this problem, constraints of CNC machine and correlations between CNC machine and panel need to be reviewed. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze decision factors on free-form concrete panel sizes produced by CNC machines. Through this study, FCP size can be optimized, which in turn can lead to improved FCP productivity and aesthetical quality of free-form building designs determined by the pattern of exterior finishing panels. CNC machine-enabled free-form concrete panel production technology will apply on site in the future, which will not only maximize the economic benefits of the technology but also support shorter construction schedule and better constructability.

  • In order to manufacture high-quality free-form concrete panel (FCP), it is necessary to analyze the limitations of free-form silicone mold (FSM) and conduct technology development research. Currently, the FSM used in FCP manufacture is classified into a side silicon mold(SSM) and a lower silicon mold(LSM). In this study, the limitations of each silicon mold were analyzed and solutions were proposed. In the case of side silicon mold, there is a limit to cannot supporting the side pressure of concrete. Therefore, a mold stacking method was proposed, and at the same time, a process of correcting the movement value of the rod was proposed. In the case of the lower silicon mold, there is a limit to completely implementing the design shape. Therefore, a real-time scanning method and a process of displaying FCP shape coordinates were proposed. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for manufacturing high-quality FCP.

  • Free-form annotation 환경에서 정확한 annotation 정보를 생성하기 위해서는 free-form 마킹의 기하 정보와 annotated part간의 관계를 분석하는 과정에서 발생하는 ambiguity를 인식 및 해결할 수 있어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 먼저 XML 기반의 annotation 환경에서 free-form 마킹과 다양한 컨텍스트 간에 발생할 수 있는 ambiguity를 분석하였으며 이를 해결하기 위한 annotation 보정 기법을 제안한다. 제안 기법은 free-form 마킹과 annotated part간의 다양한 textual 및 문서구조를 포함하는 컨텍스트를 기반으로 하며 본 연구에서 구현한 annotation 시스템을 통하여 출력 및 교환된다. 그 결과 본 연구의 제안 기법을 통하여 생성된 free-form 마킹 정보는 기존의 기법보다 사용자가 원하는 annotated part 영역을 포함할 수 있으며 따라서 다중사용자 및 서로 다른 문서환경에서도 명확한 교환 결과를 보장할 수 있다.

  • Free-form building is increasing because of request that an order to raise the value and request of the local residents and the government trying to own iconic and beautiful buildings. In addition, the installation and production of free-form concrete segment are now available because of development of construction technology, such as the development of materials and equipment. However, the production of free-form concrete segment requires a lot of time and manpower than shaping. In particular, resources of the mold for the production of free-from segment will be invested excessively because mold can not be recycled. Thus, the problems of increased costs, construction periods and loss of productivity occur. To solve these problems, this study proposes a technique of making the mold of for variable within a short time. Technique proposed in this study can be recycled die and will realize fast and accurate free-form concrete segment.

  • Both the formal type of architecture and free-form architecture have basic factors and methods for basic expression. Because the use of digital design tools for creation of free-form design mostly depends on the character and ability of designer, this study aims to propose establishment of free-form design creation method as a prototype, including the method to create free-form design, through setting up rules that can be used in common. This study is carried out on the basis of the application of digital design tools used for creation of conceptual free-form styles at the phase of conceptualization and development, which is different from the general theory of free-from design. The free-from style in the modern architecture has begun with the changes in digital design tools and design concepts. In the case study based on the free-form designs in precedent studies, the morphological characteristics have been analyzed and interpreted by using the language of digital design tools, so that this study will suggest the techniques to realize the free-form style on the basis of geometric transformation by using the digital design tools, as well.

  • Currently, the market for free-form building continues to grow, but the technology for construction of free-form building in Korea is still in need of much study. In this study, we focused on this problem and conducted basic study for development a side formwork control system to product various types of FCP. As a result of this study, it is expected that it will be able to secure competitiveness for the free-form building market, which is expected to contribute greatly to the growth of the construction industry.

  • Free-form buildings serve as landmarks, and interest and demand are increasing. However, in the case of free-form concrete members, different curved surfaces are required depending on the location where they are used, and the formwork is custom-made and used. Concrete is poured into the manufactured formwork to produce FCP (Free-form Concrete Panel). However, since it is an atypical building that requires precise curvature, compaction cannot be performed after concrete is poured. This leads to the occurrence of bughole, which reduce the strength and aesthetics of concrete. Therefore, in this study, we intend to conduct basic experiments to develop a magnetic compaction device that can be used for FCP. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the bug hole was improved when the magnetic compaction device was applied, and there was no significant difference in compressive strength and flexural strength. This technology can be used in the field of Free-form concrete where it is difficult to perform compaction work, and it is expected to be used as a basic research related to technology for new automatic compaction.

  • Starting in modern times by Le Corbusier, architectures made by concretes are still developing in these times. For several decades, the shape of box architecture has been the most familiar type of buildings. Of course "The concrete is the type of box building" isn't always right, but what we have most seen was the buildings which has been stylized and made by concretes. Through modern times to these days based on international style and functionalism, the type of box building was the most effective and good profit type of architecture which has not disregarded the capitalism. Free-form building are becoming a common place, and many of these are designed and constructed using sophisticated techniques. The main technique being used is Generative Technology of Form for free-form construction. People's interest is growing in this, and it is becoming widely used both abroad and domestically. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the use of Generative Technology of Form which is a digitally adapted design methodology in architecture. The digital design process used for contemporary buildings share many typical features that exist within a standard digital template, but also an increasing amount of mass customization that has to be produced at an additional cost. This paper will summarize these features in terms of free-form architecture, and in terms of the digital design process. In fact, 3D models have to be conceded as main design products considering features of Free Form Design Architecture. However it is practical to design twice over, because all forms of architectural drawings are 2D. From now on, design of Free Form Design Building is not to separate between design process and practical process, but to compound them as unified design system applied the process to communicate information interactively. For this, it should be required to impose unified digital design process and perform researches about effective way to apply in the field of Free-form Design Architecture.

  • In free-formed formwork, there is a problem that the productivity of the construction is deteriorated due to the expensive form, the long manufacturing period, and the high degree of construction difficulty. In order to solve these limitations, there is a need to research improvement from the phase of manufacturing free-formed form. Therefore, this study is to derive significant technical characteristics using QFD approach as a preliminary study to develop manufacturing system of the free-formed form for improving the productivity of free-formed construction formwork. This study employs the QFD to reflect users' needs into technical characteristics, and analyze correlation between users' requirements and the technical characteristics, then weights them by their importance.
