In satellite digital broadcasting and satellite internet, severe burst errors occur in the high-speed return channel from the satellite to mobiles. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the forward error correction (FEC) coding method in the Rayleigh fading return channel. We first investigate the channel model of Loo, LutB, Vucetic and Corazza. We then compare the performance of the convolutional, Reed-Solomon (RS), convolution-RS concatenation, and Turbo codes in rayleigh fading channel.
This paper shows how weather derivatives can be used to hedge against the price risk and volume risk of purchasing relatively large amounts of electricity. Our specific approach to designing new contracts for electricity is to focus on the return over a summer season rather than on the daily levels of demand and price. It is shown that correct market signals can be preserved in a contract and the associated financial risk can be offset by weather options. The advantage of combining a forward contract with a weather derivative is that the high prices on hot days or when the temperature is high reflect the underlying high cost of producing power when the load is high and that the combined contract with a weather derivative substantially reduces the volatility of the return.
This study was carried out to obtain the information needed in the development of forward speed control system and the improvement of combine performance. The effects of variety, grain moisture content and forward speed on the combine load characteristics were investigated through experiments. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. A data acquisition system was developed to measure the engine speed and the torques and speeds of the threshing cylinder, dean-grain auger and tailings-return auger. The system consisted of transducers, signal conditioner, interface board and microcomputer. The system accuracy is better than ${\pm}2.3%$ full scale. 2. Linear regression equations were obtained for the torque, speed and power requirement of threshing cylinder for different paddy varieties, grain moisture contents and feed rates. 3. The maximum value of relative frequency for threshing cylinder torque decreased as the increase in feed rate and moisture content. The range of torque fluctuation was 1.2~3.7 and 1.2~1.9 times the average and maximum torque, respectively. The maximum value of power spectrum density (PSD) appeared to be about 11 Hz regardless of paddy variety, grain moisture content and feed rate. 4. The speed of tailings return thrower decreased rapidly at below 900rpm, and it fell to near zero about 3 seconds after that time. When the travelling of combine harvester was stopped immediately after sensing the overload, it took about 7 seconds for a full recovery of the no-load speed of tailings return thrower.

CATV Network management system of korea is used for mainly monitor forward broadcasting signal because of the difficulty of tracking. measuring and control reverse path noise. Thereby purpose of design of the hardware is removing return path noise of CATV Network for maintaining two way network service of the highest quality. Return path management system is very effective in making CATV Network be the best media for ultra high speed data communication.
We investigated the polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) tolerance for 40Gb/s non-return to zero (NRZ), duobinary NRZ, return to zero (RZ), carrier-suppressed RZ (CS-RZ), and duobinary-carrier-suppressed RZ (DCS-RZ) modulation formats with a forward error correction (FEC) coding. The power penalty has been calculated as a measure of the system performance due to PMD. After comparison of the PMD tolerance of various modulation formats, our results suggest that RZ signals have the best tolerance against the effect of first-order PMD only. The duobinary NRZ modulation format is most resilient to PMD when both first- and second-order PMD are considered. However, the duobinary NRZ modulation format is the most sensitive to the incident angle of the input signal to a fiber axis in the presence of first- and second-order PMD, leading to incident angle-dependent power penalty. The coding gain by FEC can cope with the power penalties induced by first- and second-order PMD up to a DGD value of 16ps.
We investigate a tansient diffusion approximation of queue size distribution in $M^{X}/G^{Y}/c$ system using the diffusion process with elementary return boundary. We choose an appropriate diffusion process which approxiamtes the queue size in the system and derive the transient solution of Kolmogorov forward equation of the diffusion process. We derive an approximation formula for the transient queue size distribution and mean queue size, and then obtain the stationary solution from the transient solution. Accuracy evalution is presented by comparing approximation results for the mean queue size with the exact results or simulation results numerically.
The need for holistic modeling efforts for returns that capture the extended closed loop supply chain (CLSC) system at strategic as well as operational level has been clearly recognized by the industry and academia. Strategic decision-makers need comprehensive models that can guide them in efficient decision-making to increase the profitability of the entire forward and return chain. Therefore, determination of a near optimal design configuration, which includes the environmental, economical and technological capability factors, is important in strategic decision-making effort that affect the profitability of the closed loop supply chain. In this paper, we adopted an improved system dynamics methodology to tackle strategic issues that affect various performance measures, like market, time/cost, environment etc., for closed loop supply chains. After studying real life implementation issues in CLSC design, we presented guidelines for the PBM (Participative Business Modeling) methodology and presented its extension for the strategic dynamic system modeling of return chains. Finally, we demonstrated the measurement of operational performance by extending SD (system dynamic) application to closed loop supply chain management.
Uncertain factors in finical markets make the prediction of future returns and risk of asset much difficult. In this paper, a model, assuming the admissible errors on expected returns and risks of assets, assisted in the multiperiod mean variance portfolio selection problem is built. The model considers transaction costs, upper bound on borrowing risk-free asset constraints, cardinality constraints and threshold constraints. Cardinality constraints limit the number of assets to be held in an efficient portfolio. At the same time, threshold constraints limit the amount of capital to be invested in each stock and prevent very small investments in any stock. Because of these limitations, the proposed model is a mix integer dynamic optimization problem with path dependence. The forward dynamic programming method is designed to obtain the optimal portfolio strategy. Finally, to evaluate the model, our result of a meaning example is compared to the terminal wealth under different constraints.
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are used to analyze behavior of copper nanowires under cyclic loading. The embedded atom method (EAM) potential is employed to represent atomic interaction. Cyclic load is applied in two ways (Forward Tension / Reverse Compression and Forward Compression / Reverse Tension). The results show that dislocations are piled up as a result of plastic deformation during alternate tensile and compressive loading. After cyclic loading with a change of direction, yield stress decreases in consequence of the effect by the dislocation pileups. On the other hand, under FC/RT cyclic load, phase transformation represent associated with mechanical twinning. And copper nanowire can return to almost former undeformed condition during tensile loading at 300K.
