  • The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a unique target to study the detail structures of molecular clouds and star-forming regions, due to its proximity and face-on orientation from us. Most part of the astrophysical subjects for the LMC have been investigated, but the magnetic field is still veiling despite its role in the evolution of the interstellar medium (ISM) and in the main force to influence the star formation process. Measuring polarization of the background stars behind interstellar medium allows us to describe the existence of magnetic fields through the polarization vector map. In this presentation, I introduce the near-infrared polarimetric results for the $39^{\prime}{\times}69^{\prime}$ field of the northeastern region of the LMC and the N159/N160 star-forming complex therein. The polarimetric observations were conducted at IRSF/SIRPOL 1.4 m telescope. These results allow us to examine both the global geometry of the large-scale magnetic field in the northeastern region and the close structure of the magnetic field in the complex. Prominent patterns of polarization vectors mainly follow dust emission features in the mid-infrared bands, which imply that the large-scale magnetic fields are highly involved in the structure of the dust cloud in the LMC. In addition, local magnetic field structures in the N159/N160 star-forming complex are investigated with the comparison between polarization vectors and molecular cloud emissions, suggesting that the magnetic fields are resulted from the sequential formation history of this complex. I propose that ionizing radiation from massive stellar clusters and the expanding bubble of the ionized gas and dust in this complex probably affect the nascent magnetic field structure.

  • The effects of heat treatments and testing temperatures on the mechanical properties of Invar materials were investigated through experiments, which call influence the formability in metal forming fields. Annealing temperatures were changed from $900^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$ with an increment of $100^{\circ}C$ under two different furnace atmosphere(vacuum and H$_2$gas). Microstructure and hardness tests were performed for annealed specimens at room temperature(RT) and tensile tests were also performed by changing annealing temperatures as well as testing temperatures from RT to $300^{\circ}C$. The grain size of annealed materials increased with increasing annealing temperature, while micro-hardness distributions showed almost same hardness values regardless of annealing temperatures. Strength ratio (tensile/yield strength), which influences the forming characteristics of sheet metal, remained almost constant for various experimental conditions in case of unannealed specimens. However, it showed increasing tendency with increasing both annealing and testing temperatures, particularly at the testing temperature higher than $200^{\circ}C$. Therefore it can be concluded that press formability of fully-annealed Invar material can be improved by warm forming technique.

  • We present a census of AGN-driven gas outflows based on the kinematics of ionized gas and stars, using a large sample of ~11,000 emission line galaxies at z < 0.3, selected from SDSS. First, a broad correlation between gas and stellar velocity dispersions indicates that the bulge gravitational potential plays a main role in determining the ionized gas kinematics. However, the velocity dispersion of the [OIII] emission line is larger than stellar velocity dispersion by a factor of 1.3-1.4, suggesting that the non-gravitational (non-virial) component, i.e., outflows, is almost comparable to the gravitational component. Second, gas-to-stellar velocity dispersion ratio increases with both AGN luminosity and Eddington ratio, suggesting that non-gravitational kinematics are clearly linked to AGN accretion. The distribution in the [OIII] velocity - velocity dispersion diagram dramatically expands toward large values with increasing AGN luminosity, implying that the launching velocity of gas outflows increases with AGN luminosity. Third, the fraction of AGNs with a signature of the non-gravitational kinematics, steeply increases with AGN luminosity and Eddington ratio, while the majority of luminous AGNs presents the non-gravitational kinematics in the [OIII] profile. These results suggest that ionized gas outflows are prevalent among type 2 AGNs. On the other hand, we find no strong trend of the [OIII] kinematics with radio luminosity, once we remove the effect of the bulge gravitational potential, indicating that ionized gas outflows are not directly related to radio activity for the majority of type 2 AGNs. We will discuss the implication of these results for AGN feedback in the local universe.

  • In this study, a PbS quantum dots (QDs)-based H2 gas sensor with a Pd electrode was proposed. QDs have a size of several nanometers, and they can exhibit a high surface area when forming a thin film. In particular, the NH2 present in the ligand of PbS QDs and H2 gas are combined to form NH3+, subsequently the electrical characteristics of the QDs change. In addition to the resistance change owing to the reaction between Pd and H2 gas, the resistance change owing to the reaction between the NH2 of PbS QDs and H2 gas increases the current signal at the sensor output, which can produce a high output signal for the same concentration of H2 gas. Using the XRD and absorbance properties, the synthesis and particle size of the synthesized PbS QDs were analyzed. Using PbS QDs, the sensitivity was significantly improved by 44%. In addition, the proposed H2 gas sensor has high selectivity because it has low reactivity with heterogeneous gases such as C2H2, CO2, and CH4.

  • Countries around the world are making active efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Korea is also pursuing a policy of abolishing aging coal power and converting it to LNG power generation. However, in Korea, gas turbine manufacturing technology has not been localized, so all of it is imported and installed from overseas manufacturers. Therefore, this paper examines the domestic and foreign environment of the gas turbine power generation industry and proposes a strategy to develop and expand the supply of Korean gas turbine technology by applying the PEST-SWOT-AHP methodology. As a result of the research, the strategy to develop and expand the supply of Korean gas turbine technology can be summarized as 1) strengthening the role of power generation public enterprises to develop and promote commercialization of gas turbine technology, 2) expanding the proportion of LNG power generation to reduce greenhouse gases, 3) the government's active efforts to create an ecosystem for the gas turbine industry, and 4) forming a public consensus on the construction of LNG power plants.

  • In designing full vehicle, crash safety, fuel efficiency, exhaust gas, and driving stability are very important factors. Especially, automotive wheel which supports total vehicle weight is a critical component in view of driving stability. Most of automotive wheel have been manufactured for beautiful appearance by using aluminum alloy in domestic industry. However, the amount of automotive steel wheel used are on an increasing trend according to developing the advanced high strength steel with good formability property recently. In this study, the circumferential deviation of rim with various thickness and yield strength was investigated. The formability evaluation of the rim was developed by using a finite element module furnished by Forge software.

  • As the manufacturing processes of automotive engine piston, gravity die-casting, squeeze casting, hot forging and powder forging process are generally used for the various specifications. As the semi-solid forming(SSF) is compared with conventional casting such as gravity die-casting and squeeze casting for the characteristics of its process, the product without inner defects such as gas porosity and segregation can be obtained and its microstructure is globular grain. In SSF process, the materials are heated up to the temperature between the solvus and liquidus line at which the materials exists in the form of liquid-solid mixture. In this time, Discussion is given about reheating process of row material and results are presented regarding accurate temperature and process variables controlling for right solid fractions.

  • A low-mass star-forming region, L1251B, is an excellent example of a small and nearby group of protostellar objects. L1251B has been mapped spectroscopically with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) onboard the Spitzer Space Telescope. IRS has provided mid-IR emission lines (e.g., [Fe II], [Ne II], and ro-vibrational H2) and absorption features of CO2 and H2O ice in studying the physical state of the ionized gas and the material residing in the circumstellar environments. We will present the distribution of outflows and ice components in L1251B.

  • Membrane panels for LNG(Liquid Natural Gas) tank are formed to corrugared ones by press forming. The environment of LNG tank is so severe that the service temperature is -162$^{\circ}C$ and the room temperature is 20$^{\circ}C$. The thermal deformation derived by the severe temperature change is absorbed by the corrugations of the membrane panels. In this paper the formability of stainless steel membrane panel is examined by the finite element analysis. Two corrugated shapes are suggested, and analyzed to obtain a sound absorption performance of the thermal distortion. Also the design considers forming characteristics and economy of production.
