  • The aim of this study is to develop a rapid calculation technique of the residual strength in order to prevent sequential events under grounding accidents. Very Large Crude-Oil Carrier (VLCC), Suezmax, and Aframax double hull oil tankers carrying large quantities of crude oil were selected for target structures. The rock geometries are chosen from the published regulation by Marine Pollution Treaty (MARPOL) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Oceanic rocks as the most frequently encountered obstruction with ships are applied in this work. Damage condition was predicted using ALPS/HULL program based on grounding scenario with selected parameters, i.e. depth of penetration, damage location and tanker type. The results of the scenarios are quantified to form an empirical formula which can evaluate the residual strength. The proposed formula is validated by applying a series of random grounding scenarios.

  • Objectives : Cleanser is the most basic tools used in daily skin care. I made a cold process soap using Castanea crenata inner shell (CCIS). I'd like to study the effect of face wash using CCIS cold process (CP) soap on the skin. Methods : The same water and towel were used at the same place in order to examine the skin change state immediately before and after washing face. The skin test was performed before and after 10 minutes washing the face in order to remove these external environmental factors, such as lifestyle, alcohol, tobacco, and stress etc. As a control group, the cases of washing with water and foam cleanser (F/C), which is a popular commercial product, were set. Three cases were compared and analyzed. Results : In the case of water washing, there was a significant decrease in oil (U-zone) but that was not good effect. In the case of F/C and CCIS washing, there were significant decrease in oil (T-zone), pores and pigmentation, but the significance was bigger in CCIS washing. In the case of pores, there was a significant decrease in all three cases. Conclusion : In the case of F/C and CCIS washing, it showed the effect of reducing T-zone oil, pores and pigmentation. But the significance was greater in CCIS case than in F/C case. CCIS cp soap is considered as a form of face wash that is suitable for skin care.

  • Haematococcus pluvialis is a commercial microalga that can produce high quantities of astaxanthin. Under induced conditions, some important changes in the subcellular structures related to astaxanthin accumulation were observable. For example, a large number of astaxanthin granules, oil structures and starch granules appeared in the thick-walled cells; Astaxanthin granules gradually dissolved into the oil structures and spread throughout the entire cell with the fusion and diffusion process of oil structures during the middle and late stages of induction; The plastoglobules were closed to the newly formed structures, and some plastoglobules would abnormally increase in size under stress. Based on observations of cell damage, the degradation of membrane structures, such as chloroplasts, was found to be the primary form of damage during the early stage of induction. During the middle stage of induction, some transparent holes were exposed in the dissolving astaxanthin granules in the cytoplasm. In thick-walled cells, these transparent holes were covered by oil substances dissolving astaxanthin, thereby avoiding further damage to cells. Given the relatively few oil structures, in non-thick-walled cells, the transparent holes expanded to form multiple transparent areas, eventually resulting in the rupture and death of cells. These results suggested that the high level of synthesis and the wide range diffusion of oil explained the expansion of astaxanthin in H. pluvialis.

  • This study was designed to compare the effect of different dietary fats on the incidence of colorectal tumor, the level of plasma thromboxane B2(TXB2) and fatty acid profiles of platelet and colonic mucosal lipids in N - methyl - N - nitro - N - nitrosoguanidine(MNNG) - treated rats. Male Sprague Dawley rats, at 8 weeks old, were divided into 2 groups and infused intrarectally with saline(control group) or with 2mg MNNG(carcinogen-treated group) twice a week for 3 weeks. Each group was again divided into 4 groups and fed one of four diets(BT, CO, PO, FO) containing dietary fat at 9%(w/w) level for 37 weeks, Dietary fats were beef tallow(7.2%)+corn oil(1.8%) for BT, corn oil(9.0%) for CO, perilla oil(9.0%) for PO, fish oil (6.5%)+corn oil (2.5%) for FO diets. MNNG-treated rats had colonic tumor, while no tumors(adenocarcinoma and adenoma) than others. Tumor sizes in BT-MNNG rats ranged from 2mm papillary form to 15mm of polypoid. However, the size of tumors in PO-MNNG or FO-MNNG rats could not be measured by gross examination. BT-MNNG and CO-MNNG groups were higher in the level of plasma TXB2 and the ratio of c20 : 4/c20 :5 platelet. PO-MNNG groups were lower in the ratio of c20 : 4/c20 : 5(p<0.05) in fatty acid of colonic mucosal lipids suggesting that perilla oil and fish oil could reduce the level of PGE2 and TXB2 by modifying its precursor content and restrain tumor promotion in colon. Effect of perilla oil rich in $\alpha$-linolenic acid on colon carcinogenesis was similar to that of fish oil and thus perilla oil could have a protective effect against colon cancer possibly by inhibiting the production of arachidonic acid metabolite.

  • Discharging untreated bilge to the ocean is a cause of marine pollution. In general, bilge water contains free and/or emulsified forms of oil. Free form of oil can easily be separated by gravimetric flotation and/or proper filtration processes. However, those simple physicochemical processes could not separate emulsified oil without adding proper chemicals. Electrolytic flotation is one of promising technologies able to fulfill the effluent standard requirement, which is below 15 ppm of oil content. In this research, Electrochemical process consisting of electrochemical flotation basin was studied for the treatment of emulsified oil. In order to estimate, the effectiveness of oil separation equipment influent concentration of oil and HRT(Hydraulic retention time) were considered. Also, lab-scale electrochemical process was designed and operated in the condition of various HRT, current density, and electrode gap. Through the research, following results were obtained. From the experiment of bench scale electrochemical treatment process, it was demonstrated that the emulsified oil was treated effectively and the removal efficiency of emulsified oil from wastewater was increased with HRT and current density.

  • Northeast Asia where is an epicenter of the global financial crisis's conquest is traditional imbalanced region of oil production and consumption. In recent years, the region has been suffered by the shortage of oil storage and transportation facilities due to surging oil trading and necessity in strategic reserves. Therefore, since independent petroleum logistics with the storage facilities and oil trading hub is required to form efficient oil market in this region. In this study, we analyzed the efficiency of refinery facilities by country that is of importance in being a logistics hub in Northeast Asia by employing non-static and dynamic efficiency analysis, which are a part of DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) and then policy implications have been drawn. The result illustrates Korea's is the highest country in terms of efficiency of oil refining facilities in Northeast Asia. It implies that Korea has strong position to be the oil hub in Northeast Asia.

  • This study analyzes the structure types of salmon oil to evaluate the purity of salmon oil products based on the 38 different types of imported salmon oil products distributed in the Republic of Korea. The major types of omega-3 foods in the salmon oil are ethyl ester (EE) and triglyceride (TG). If the salmon oil contained potential contaminants and was processed in order to remove it, EE type omega-3 fatty acids are found in concentration. This provides a good guide in assessing if products were made with EE type ingredients or re-esterified contaminated materials. The results of the FT-IR analysis showed significant difference in the C=O, C-O band positions in TG and EE. There were 19 TG type products and 19 EE type products. The analysis of carbon isotope ratio was performed on the types of TG and EE. There were different properties in the 19 TG type products. In one product, the carbon isotope ratio was -25.15 and the other 18 products showed -22.15~-23.96. The carbon isotope ratio of all 19 EE type products showed -21.91~-23.74. The results of the TLC analysis showed similar results with FR-IR. The re-esterified TG form was not detected in the TG type products, confirming that the TG type products contained natural salmon oil. This study aimed to provide the basic material in classifying the types of natural salmon oil and re-esterified salmon oil, by analyzing the pattern and proportion of FT-IR spectrum, carbon isotope ratio, and TLC.

  • For the effecient extraction methods of essential oil, pretreatment of leaves, ratios of water and leaves, extraction time, and collection season from the Chamaecyparis obtusa and Chamaecyparis pisifera leaves were studied. The chemical composition of essential oil was analyzed by GC-MS. The yield of essential oil from ground leaves was higher than that of chopped leaves. The yield of essential oil was not affected much by mixing ratios of water and leaves. The yield of essential oil reached maximum after 5 hours. The content of essential oil of C. obtusa leaves collected during winter was 4.5%, whereas the content of essential oil of C. pisifera collected during fall was 5.3%. The composition of essential oils extracted form C. obrusa and C. pisifera was different. The major constituents in the essential oil of C. obtusa were monoterpene as limonene, terpinene-4-ol, ${\gamma}$-selinene, and a-cedrene, and those of C. pisifera was monoterpens as ${\alpha}$-pinene, myrcene, limonene, bornyl acetate, ${\beta}$- caryophyllene, longifolene, and ${\beta}$-cedrene.

  • A wear transition mechanism during sliding in glass has been observed. Disk specimens of sodalime-silicate glass were slid against AISI 52100 steel with paraffin oil as lubricant. Observations of the micrrx structural change on the worn surface showed that semi-circular cone cracks (SCCCs) were suddenly produced after a certain critical sliding time. These SCCCs brought about the severe damage in the form of extensive microchipping during further sliding. It was shown that the abrupt appearance of the SCCCs is attributable to the grooves formed during sliding, which act as surface flaws.
