  • Forecasting for air demand such as international passengers and freight has been one of the main interests for air industries. This research has mainly focus on the comparison of the performances of the multivariate time series models. In this paper, we used real data such as exchange rates, oil prices and export amounts to predict the future demand on international passenger and freight.

  • With global warming and pollution problems, accurate forecasting of the harmful gases would be an essential alarm in our life. In this paper, we forecast the emission of the five gases(SOx, NO2, NH3, H2S, CH4) using the time series model of ARIMA, the learning algorithms of Random forest, and LSTM. We find that the gas emission data depends on the short-term memory and behaves like a random walk. As a result, we compare the RMSE, MAE, and MAPE as the measure of the prediction performance under the same conditions given to three models. We find that ARIMA forecasts the gas emissions more precisely than the other two learning-based methods. Besides, the ARIMA model is more suitable for the real-time forecasts of gas emissions because it is faster for modeling than the two learning algorithms.

  • In most cases of the water balance analysis, the return flow ratio for each water supply was uniformly determined and applied, so it has been contained a problem that the volume of available water would be incorrectly calculated. Therefore, sewage and wastewater among the return water were focused in this study and the data-driven model was developed to forecast the outflow from the sewage treatment plant. The forecasting results of LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), GRU (Gated Recurrent Units), and SVR (Support Vector Regression) models, which are mainly used for forecasting the time series data in most fields, were compared with the observed data to determine the optimal model parameters for forecasting outflow. As a result of applying the model, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the GRU model was smaller than those of the LSTM and SVR models, and the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NSE) was higher than those of others. Thus, it was judged that the GRU model could be the optimal model for forecasting the outflow in sewage treatment plants. However, the forecasting outflow tends to be underestimated and overestimated in extreme sections. Therefore, the additional data for extreme events and reducing the minimum time unit of input data were necessary to enhance the accuracy of forecasting. If the water use of the target site was reviewed and the additional parameters that could reflect seasonal effects were considered, more accurate outflow could be forecasted to be ready for climate variability in near future. And it is expected to use as fundamental resources for establishing a reasonable river water management system based on the forecasting results.

  • Recently, the resource depletion and climate change problem caused by the massive usage of fossil fuels for electric power generation has become a critical issue worldwide. According to this issue, interest in renewable energy resources that can replace fossil fuels is increasing. Especially, photovoltaic power has gaining much attention because there is no risk of resource exhaustion compared to other energy resources and there are low restrictions on installation of photovoltaic system. In order to use the power generated by the photovoltaic system efficiently, a more accurate photovoltaic power forecasting model is required. So far, even though many machine learning and deep learning-based photovoltaic power forecasting models have been proposed, they showed limited success in terms of interpretability. Deep learning-based forecasting models have the disadvantage of being difficult to explain how the forecasting results are derived. To solve this problem, many studies are being conducted on explainable artificial intelligence technique. The reliability of the model can be secured if it is possible to interpret how the model derives the results. Also, the model can be improved to increase the forecasting accuracy based on the analysis results. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an explainable photovoltaic power forecasting scheme based on BiLSTM (Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory) and SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations).

  • We develop a dynamic demand forecasting model compared to regression analysis model and AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA) model. The dynamic model can apply to the current dynamic data to forecasts through introducing state equation. A multiple regression model and ARIMA model using given data are designed via the model analysis. The forecasting fitness evaluation between the designed models and the dynamic model is compared with the criterion of sum of squared error.

  • Increased data volume in the ICT area has increased the importance of forecasting accuracy for internet traffic. Forecasting results may have paper plans for traffic management and control. In this paper, we propose combined forecasts based on several time series models such as Seasonal ARIMA and Taylor's adjusted Holt-Winters and Fractional ARIMA(FARIMA). In combined forecasting methods, we use simple-combined method, MSE based method (Armstrong, 2001), Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method and Equality Restricted Least Squares (ERLS) method. The results show that the Seasonal ARIMA model outperforms in 3 hours ahead forecasts and that combined forecasts outperform in longer periods.

  • To improve the efficiency of the electric power generation, monthly maximum electric power consumptions for a next one year should be forecasted in advance and used as the fundamental input to the yearly electric power-generating master plan, which has a greatly influence upon relevant sub-plans successively. In this paper, we analyze the past 22-year hourly maximum electric load data available from KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) and select necessary data from the raw data for our model in order to reflect more recent trends and seasonal components, which hopefully result in a better forecasting model in terms of forecasted errors. After analyzing the selected data, we recommend to KEPCO the Winters' multiplicative model with decomposition and exponential smoothing technique among many candidate forecasting models and provide forecasts for the electric power consumptions and their 95% confidence intervals up to December of 1999. It turns out that the relative errors of our forecasts over the twelve actual load data are ranged between 0.1% and 6.6% and that the average relative error is only 3.3%. These results indicate that our model, which was accepted as the first statistical forecasting model for monthly maximum power consumption, is very suitable to KEPCO.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest the methods of forecasting the numbers of students. The generalized weighted proportion estimation models are suggested and used for forecasting the numbers of student until 2029. The results of the Monte Carlo simulation show that the suggested method is powerful for the forecasting. In conclusion, the numbers of the third grade high-school students will be less than the numbers of college admission quota from 2019.

  • This empirical research aims to modeling and improving the forecasting accuracy of the volatility pattern by employing the Saudi Arabia stock market (Tadawul)by studying daily closed price index data from October 2011 to December 2019 with a number of observations being 2048. In order to achieve significant results, this study employs many mathematical functions which are non-linear spectral model Maximum overlapping Discrete Wavelet Transform (MODWT) based on the best localized function (Bl14), autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model and generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) models. Therefore, the major findings of this study show that all the previous events during the mentioned period of time will be explained and a new forecasting model will be suggested by combining the best MODWT function (Bl14 function) and the fitted GARCH model. Therefore, the results show that the ability of MODWT in decomposition the stock market data, highlighting the significant events which have the most highly volatile data and improving the forecasting accuracy will be showed based on some mathematical criteria such as Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), Mean Absolute Scaled Error (MASE), Root Means Squared Error (RMSE), Akaike information criterion. These results will be implemented using MATLAB software and R- software.
