  • In Korea, the elderly support has been accomplished by the families in the extended family system with the influence of the transmigration and the confucianism thought. But in Korea the drastic changes of society such as, the growth of the elderly pollution, the urbanization, the decrease of the birth rate, the increase of the working women, the growth of the nuclear families, etc., make the family difficult to take care of the elderly. Therefore, some people insist on the construction of the elderly home as the way to solve the elderly problems and some of corporations including profit-organizations are ready to participate the construction of the elderly home. They force the change of the current social security law because it is impossible to carry out the plans uncer the law. At this point, the conditions of the elderly home in Japan which is geographically close to Korea and has facillicated the elderly home business were examined at the consumer perspectives. The purpose of this study were to consider the possible problems in the elderly home and to prevent from happening another elderly problems in the future.

  • Because of resonance between natural frequency of the second floor base for IPB(Isolated Phase Bus) duct supports in a power plant and operation frequency of the turbine, there was high amplitude vibration on IPB duct. To reduce vibration of IPB duct, Firstly it was set a FEM model to seek the mode shape for the concrete structure. Secondly, it was carried out dynamic analysis for the FEM model. Lastly, because the natural frequency of the concrete structure could not be changed, it was changed supports position for the IPB duct near to beams. It resulted in reducing vibration of IPB duct.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the stability of tapered columns with clamped one end and carrying a tip mass of rotatory inertia with translational elastic support at the other end. The linearly tapered columns with the solid rectangular cross-section is adopted as the column taper. The differential equation governing free vibrations of such Beck columns is derived using the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. Both the divergence and flutter critical loads are calculated from the load-frequency curves which are obtained by solving the differential equation. The critical loads are presented as functions of various non-dimensional system parameters: the taper type, the subtangential parameter, mass ratio and spring stiffness.

  • Agricultural environmental indicators (AEIs) are useful tool for evaluating environmental performance induced by agri-environmental policy measures. General and specific criteria have been set to assess the linkages between policy measures and environmental states. In addition, a number of specific AEIs such as nutrient balance indicators and farm management indicators have been posit to review environmental performance associated with agri-environmental policy measures. The proposed environmental subjects encompass soil quality, qualities of underground and surface water, water resource preservation, species and genetic diversity, diversity for wildlife habitats, and agricultural landscapes. The developed AEIs may contribute to establishment or adjustment of environmental targets and ex-ante or ex-post evaluation for environmental performance associated with policy measures. In addition, the AEIs may be useful to consider introduction of new agri-environmental measures and enhance policy efficiency by assessing environmental performance, considering specific locality, and harmonizing support measures.

  • RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-power Lossy Network) is a standardized routing protocol for LLNs (Low power and Lossy Networks) by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). RPL creates routes and builds a DODAG (Destination Oriented Directed Acyclic Graph) through OF (Objective Function) defining routing metrics and optimization objectives. RPL supports a leaf mode which does not allow any child nodes. In this paper, we propose INFRA-RPL which provides a dynamic leaf mode functionality to a leaf node with the mobility. The proposed protocol is implemented in the open-source IoT operating system, Contiki-NG and Cooja simulator, and its performance is evaluated. The evaluation results show that INFRA-RPL outperforms the existing protocols in the terms of PDR, latency, and control message overhead.

  • An emergency service over Voice over IP (VoIP) network is an essential condition, like the existing telecommunication services. To support for the emergency services, standardization works have been performed. The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) has been developing the framework and procedures for an emergency service for Non-IP based network, rather than protocols. In contrast, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has been only focused on end-to-end IP-based emergency calls. The NENA architecture is incompatible with the IETF protocols. To solve the problem, we design and implement a SIP-based VoIP emergency system by adopting the NENA architecture and by applying IETF protocols, for both IP-based Pubic Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and PSTN-based PSAP. It is implemented and tested under UNIX environment.

  • The mobile harbor is a new innovative system that delivers containers from a containership to a harbor without good infrastructure. A crane is installed on the deck of the mobile harbor and transfers the containers. The structure of the crane is influenced by the inertia force that occurs from a moving support. Thus an accurate safety verification considering the moving support is required. Lightweight of the crane structure is also significant in the design for low production cost and efficient operation. Dynamic response optimization can be exploited to achieve these two requirements. Equivalent static loads method is employed for dynamic response optimization of the crane. The equivalent static loads method transforms dynamic loads to equivalent static loads, and static response structural optimization with the transformed equivalent static loads are solved. The process proceeds in a cyclic manner. A new method is proposed to consider the moving supports and the structure of the mobile harbor is optimized using the proposed method.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify which width of the base of support(BOS) is safer and more effective in lifting by comparing muscle activations and body sways when lifting objects under the width variation of the BOS. A total of fifteen healthy adults participated in this study. For the width variation of the BOS, the participants changed the width between their feet into three different types(10cm, 32cm, 45cm) and lifted a 10kg four times in each type after going up on a force plate. In order to measure body sways according to the width variation of the BOS, a motion analysis system was used. In addition, in order to measure the muscle activations of lower extremities, including the erector spinae, gluteus maximus, rectus femoris, and tibialis anterior, an electromyogram(EMG) analysis was employed. In addition, the Borg's scale was drawn by quantifying the subjective discomfort levels felt from each width of the BOS. In conclusion, no statistically significant differences according to the width variation of the BOS were observed(p=.295, .308)(p>.05). However, a statistically significant difference was exhibited between the Borg's scale, which indicates the discomfort levels from lifting performances, and the width variation of the BOS (p=$.000^*$).

  • In this paper, a geometric nonlinear analysis procedure of the beam-column element including multi-noded cable element in extension of companion paper (Kim et al., 2005) is presented. First, a stiffness matrix was derived about the beam-column element that considers the second effect of the initial force supposing the curved shape at each time-step, with Hermitian polynomials as the shape function. Second, the multi-noded cable element was also subjected to the tangent stiffness matrix. To verify the geometric nonlinearity of this newly developed multi-noded cable-truss element, the Innovative Prestressed Support (IPS) system using this theory was analysed by geometric nonlinear method and the results were compared with those produced by linear analysis.
